If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

John 14:23
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

It sounds like we first have to keep Jesus words (commandments?) before we can be born again (God the Holy Spirit takes his abode in us).

What's your understanding?
We are born again through faith.

Love is the maturity of faith.

Love matured within us may be related to having boldness on the day of judgment as it is said in 1st John, but no one needs to be the finished product to be saved.

basic :

Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Ac 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

repent babies cant !!!!! baptism Greek immerse, dip etc right under = symbol of burrial

Gods part ( when you do it HIS WAY ) receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. this when he comes and makes his abode in the individual .. you know because ....

mark16v16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

all of them !!! 1st identifier is speak in tongues ( pure undefiled language GOD gives you ! you don't learn it !! )

Joh 4:24 God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.

command !!!!

ie
17 ¶ Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth...……….. so according to the word :

1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

don't be mixed up by the use IN THE CHURCH (same today)

Ro 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

don't have this then your just religious so do it his way !!

My thought exactly. But then why does it say "love and keep" first, then "we'll make an abode with" ?

It is a good question that deserves a good answer.

Revelation 21:27 tells us that nothing "defiled or that worketh abomination or maketh a lie" shall enter heaven.

And in Matthew 5:48 Our Lord urges us to "be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect." If Our Lord commanded us to be perfect, then it must be possible to do so. He would never command anything that is impossible.

So, perfection is possible and it is necessary to enter heaven.

Why, you may ask, do we need to be perfect to be with God in heaven? As St. Paul put it, because "light cannot have fellowship with darkness, justice no participation with injustice, Christ no concord with Belial". (II Corinthians 6:15)

The more a soul becomes perfect, the more it becomes worthy and able to come and remain in God's presence. For the same reason, Christ and His Father cannot and will not make their abode with us unless and until our soul is deemed able and worthy to receive Them and have Them abide within us.

When is our soul deemed worthy and able to receive Christ and His Father? If and when we love and obey Him.

My understanding is that the words of Jesus were said to show us we couldn't keep His commandments. God's standard is perfection (Matthew 5:48). Nobody is living up to that nor will they. God isn't grading on the curve. Jesus said these words so that in the midst of our failed attempts we would realize that the only way to enter heaven was by the grace and mercy of God. That can only be found through believing Jesus and accepting His perfect obedience to God's commands, His propitiating death on the cross which removed our sins for eternity, and the restoration of the life of God made possible through the resurrection. We can't love God through obedience to commands we can't keep. We can only be loved by God by accepting Jesus Christ's offer of salvation.

He repeats the same instructions in 1 John.

The key is to note that John is not writing to the Body of Christ. He is writing to the Jews who believe in Jesus. Under the gospel of the Kingdom, they need to believe in Jesus and keep the commandments.

I see the complete opposite to you, the reverse is true.

Everyone sins, so what is the difference?
Were that true, after conversion-rebirth, then God's seed is bringing forth the fruit of the devil.
Like fig trees cannot bear grapes, and grape vines cannot bear figs, we know the fruit designates the seed it came from.
1 John 3:8 says..."He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil."
Is the bible wrong?

Maybe also consider that the Holy Spirit of God can abode in us without us being saved. I don't believe this is saying you must obey the commandments (they are impossible to follow on our own) in order to be saved... We cannot earn salvation. It is saying as saved, the Holy Spirit within us provides a way for us to be able to obey.

I'm listening..
Luke 18:10-14
Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’ I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other;

Talking of perfection.

1 John 1:9-10
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

Do you confess your sin or do you deny it?

I agree, the law shows us that we are in desperate trouble. Which is telling us that we need Jesus. The law demonstrates sin but provides no cure. The law is all about the need for Jesus, after all, Moses did speak of Jesus.

The gospel is the belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and that confession. That is what our faith is centered on, that is our hope.

It is this:
1 John 4:7-8 King James Version (KJV)
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

20
If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

God loves us regardless of obeying or disobeying. By accepting his love into your heart, your love becomes his love, thus he dwells within you. Anyone who downplaya or dismisses the call to love your neighbor as yourself, displayed by the fruit if the spirit, does not follow Christ.

Acts 2:

Ephesians 1:
13
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
14
who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession,
to the praise of His glory.
Revelation 21:
3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.
22 But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
Luke 21:
27
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because
your redemption draws near.

To keep his word is like harboring a seed within ourselves, or our mind/soul, and for them to make their abode is the growing of that seed through the perception of our relationship to that seed.
