Okay so far.

This requires a lot more explaining IMO. Everyone who is sympathetic to the Trump-era tariffs is supportive--even Trump himself--of the tariffs only as temporary leverage en route to getting China, and perhaps others, to bring their own policies into line with free trade, the policy that we Americans would want. It's not as though protectionism is the ideal or even the point of it.

To criticize Tucker Carlson on this development strikes me as similar to dunning someone for supporting our country's response to Pearl Harbor. That was not because of a love of war but was the assumption, on a temporary basis, of a kind of action that we would much rather not have had to do.

What you're describing about Carlson is his patriotism, and I agree that there are a lot of conservatives (and more libertarians) who are great at social theory, but are not especially interested in our nation in particular.
Tariffs are never a short term solution. While they're being sold as a such, the reality is that this argument is dependent upon China and other foreign powers playing ball, which they haven't done across the board.

Carlson is specifically against free trade and routinely argues against it. He doesn't really want a new trade policy with China or the EU, he wants a nationalistic government controlled econony that focuses on American manufacturing selling to Americans. He is wholly uninterested in free international trade, his monologues of the past 10 years make this abundantly clear. Tariffs are no temporary solution for Carlson, who wraps up his big government love in a flag.

Would it not be in the best interest, for any country, to be as self sufficient as possible? Only going outside for things that they cannot do themselves?

Good for the country... not good for the profits of the elite and their share holders....

Again.. greed wins and ruins it for the majority.

Well, now you've moved into speculation and prognostications. Having charged Tucker Carlson with being a protectionist and against free trade in principle, the allegation is switched to what might possibly happen in the future if the present efforts to bring about free trade fail.

‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ Draws Record 4.3 Million Viewers In 2Q – Deadline

News

Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight drew a record 4.331 million viewers in the second quarter and 791,000 in the 25-54 demo, making it the number one program in all of cable news among both total viewers and demo for the first time since launch, according to the network and Nielsen Media Research. This comes as Fox News Channel wrapped the second quarter of 2020 with the largest audience in network history in both total day and primetime, Nielsen says.

Fox News has become moderate. Fox News, has always been known as a mainstream network. One America News is much less biased. I watched Trump's "Salute to America" event on TV last night.
Fox coverage of that frequently gets interrupted, while OAN stays on the event until the very end. OAN was also the first to announce Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Life is so miserable at points that we need to sit back and laugh at it. Not everything needs to be taken so seriously 100% of the time.

And I think that's what makes Tucker likeable; he finds dangerous leftist political insanity and laughs at it.

It's the same thing that made Jon Stewart and Colbert (initially) likeable, except for those on the left. Some right-wingers are so insane that they deserve to be mocked.

All MSM isn't "moderate," they have money flowing into them towards certain political interests.

^ Language warning. Also - yes, I know it's Vox, but IMO nonetheless worth ~9 min.

It is interesting to me to think that everything he says has the Murdoch imprimatur. I wonder if he's not just a tension release valve to keep disgruntled (R) voters voting (R).

I do agree that he is the best pundit on US MSM (I'm aware of), but that doesn't mean he's saying everything that could be said.

A Pied Piper attempting to lead people can only lead those willing to be led in the direction they are willing to be led to.
"We choose truth over facts'" - Joe Biden.
Seriously? You quoted Biden about telling the truth? He would not know truth if it bit him in the rear.

He knows that , whatever it might be, he'd choose it over facts.

Anyone who thinks Carlson reports 'news' is a fool. He opines about the news.
"you can't expect to literally believe the words that come out of Carlson's mouth. And that assertion is not coming from Carlson's critics. It's being made by a federal judge in the Southern District of New York and by Fox News's own lawyers in defending Carlson against accusations of slander."

Who is he?
The host of Fox's highest rated news commentary show.

I read Fox News is being sued for defamation by a voting machine company.
That company is apparently suing all sorts of people who have commented publicly about the reported irregularities in the vote counting as done by their products last November.
