It's time to acknowledge what most of us thought was the case: Government can't control a virus. Coronavirus cases are increasing, not just in places that opened up 2 months ago. Back in May, in NYC 66% of hospitalizations were people who had been locked down. Government was never able to control the virus.

Two pieces of news struck me this week as indicative of the need for government to pull back and let the virus run its course. 38 MLB players and nearly 30 NBA players tested positive last week. These are people being forced to take tests by their employer, as opposed to people who think they're sick and are going to get a test. A team and a half of baseball players and 10% of NBA players who will play in their new format suggests the virus is incredibly widespread, way beyond the official positive numbers.

Deaths are not increasing substantially, they remained steady in June despite previous high numbers at the end of May. This remains a 99.6% survival virus. According to the CDC those under 55 have a 99.95% survival rate, those 55-64 survive 99.8% of the time and those 65+ survive 98.5% of the time. Those numbers may drop if the virus is as widespread as the numbers suggest.

It's time to end all restrictions on our lives. Ditch the placebo masks, ditch the social distancing and move on with life. This virus cannot be controlled by the state. Let it run its course naturally without us trying to flatten curves which will only serve to extend the economic and social misery the government has created with this virus. Enough is enough.

I think... I have to agree. Really, I do.

We might have saved lives (who knows?) But those lives are now in complete shreds; in fact, I know a person who worked their ENTIRE life to start a business - and then, in March, they FINALLY get the money up and proceed to launch, only to get locked down and left completely out of pocket. That person - instead of living their dream, is now claiming benefit (can you even BEGIN to imagine what it must have been like to go from writing a business plan to filling out a claimant form? Augh... I shudder at the thought. I do, I actually feel physical pain for them.)

If you're in the "at risk" category, proceed with caution. If you're fit and healthy, proceed with common sense and keep yourself clean at all times. There is nothing more we can do; it's not even about the economy anymore, it's about satiety.

And please, don't quote me with war stories and don't tell me "how easy we have it" - because I can't take anymore moral blackmail this year. I'm at my quota.

Wrong x 2. Perhaps it is better said the government can't control its people. It is people that can control the virus and in the U.S. we're not doing so well at that because we are independent and we think we know better than science. There are examples of other countries that have done much better at that whether you want to attribute it to government measures or their citizens willingness to comply with government measures. The second problem is this virus is not going to run its course. It's here to stay until there is a vaccine.

Once the virus has run its course..what will be the next crisis conjured up by the left?

The sun's luminosity is increasing - we all have to spend an extortionate amount of money on solar blockers and stay home and consume as much energy as possible on coolers. Don't go out, because we're busy pulling more stunts - we wouldn't want you to see that (to be honest, even if you did, we'd just deny it to your face. Failing that, we'll just tax you into famine.)

Well, that depends on the outcome of the November election, doesn't it?

If Biden wins, we will all be treated to the government saying that happy times are here again, the skies are blue again, and there is nothing to fear but fear itself.

Just like the commercials that Biden's handlers are running at present in which the "Great Recession" that occurred under Obama-Biden, the longest recession in American history, was actually eight fabulous years of economic growth!!

Well, we might need to build a wall between Canada and the US if that happens.

Then be prepared for millions of American deaths ... on the Republican watch ...

The recession occurred under Bush.

The economy was headed back up in early 2009.

I have a hard time believing that you didn't know that ...

Looks at the rest of the First World. Looks back at the US.

I think you're wrong.

People can't control a virus. Unless we all live in caves and never interact with each other, this and every other virus can be spread between people. God made us to be social.

Considering that the death toll is highest in states with Democrat governors, it's hardly a partisan virus or death toll. The premise is off though. You presuppose that government can somehow control a virus, which it clearly cannot at any level at any time.

I have no desire to join a death cult. I value my life and the life of my family, so I am oppossed to the government doing nothing. My life matters, I would hope other people would feel the same and we could agree that the nihilistic course of action of simply doing nothing is unethical.

Maybe we should make the progress of biological evolution our primary value. Let the virus behave as it will and let people behave as they will. Wasnt it a famous satanist who said "do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law". Maybe this rough beast's time has come?

That would certainly eliminate a whole ton of fuss and bother over whats moral or ethical.

Let. Go.

Give it a month (or less) ... and the Republican led states will have caught up ... especially following your plan ...

Look again at the numbers. They're up in Germany, South Korea, China and so on.

Let's have a look at the contrast.

The US hasn't peaked yet with daily cases currently over 40,000.

US total cases 2,900,000.
July 3rd daily increase in cases: 54,904
Percentage increase: 1.9%

Germany peaked with daily cases over 6,000. Past ten days have all been well under 1,000.

Germany total cases 197,000.
Most recent daily increase in cases: 418
Percentage increase: 0.2%

South Korea peaked with daily cases over 800. Past 90 days have all been under 100.

South Korea total cases 13,000.
Most recent daily increase in cases: 63
Percentage increase: 0.5%

China peaked with daily cases over 3,000. Past 60 days have all been under 100.

China total cases 83,000.
Most recent daily increase in cases: 19 (per Johns Hopkins)
Percentage increase: 0.02%

In contrast with the US, all of these countries have passed their peaks, and their current daily increases are well under 1%.

Compared to all countries with populations greater than 1 million, the US ranks #7 in both per capita deaths and per capita cases.

People ... can control limit virus exposures ... just like I can control ( to a more or less extent) my children.

Government can motivate people to limit exposure ... and a government that sits on its hand and lets (and/or even encourages) exposures to escalate out of control ... is not worthy of my vote ...

Governments in a number of countries have done exactly that, controlled the spread of the virus and minimised the number of deaths. Wouldn’t it make sense to learn from those countries which have successfully managed the crisis?
