The story of Jacob who loved Rachel and worked 7 years to pay for his bride but was deceived by Laban when he was given Leah the older weak eyed sister instead, is a puzzling spiritual mystery that's symbolic for Old and New Covenant Israel.

And the 12 sons born from Leah, Rachel and their servants Bilhah and Zilpah when Jacob was 83 to 90 years old, are symbolic for Old and New Covenant Israel during the tribulation that will take place at 83 to 90 years from 1948.

Leah, a type for Old Covenant Israel
Leah the older sister who was deceptively given in marriage to Jacob first, gave birth to 4 sons. After Leah's 4th son Judah was born she became barren for a period of time until her last 2 sons were born.

Leah's 4 sons, Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah that was followed by her time of barrenness, is a prophecy for Jesus who came from the tribe of Judah (the 4th son) at 4,000 years from Adam, to fulfill the Levitical law and put an end to the Old Covenant (Leah became barren after Judah was born)

Rachel, a type for New Covenant Israel
Rachel who gave birth to her first son Joseph (a type for Jesus) after 7 years of marriage barrenness when Jacob was 90, appears to be a mysterious prophecy for when Christ is born into the hearts of New Covenant Israel by faith, when the nation is 90 years old from 1948 in 2038 after 7 years of tribulation barrenness, Zechariah 13:8-9, Jeremiah 30:6-7, Galatians 4:19.

Galatians 4:19 my little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed (born) in you!
Jacob's approximate age of 90 when Joseph was born, is revealed by calculating Joseph's age when Jacob came to Egypt at the age of 130 to be saved from 7 years of famine, Genesis 47:8-9.

However knowing the exact year of Joseph's age when he met Jacob in Egypt is difficult since there were two short unknown periods of time in Joseph's life after he began to serve Pharaoh at the age of 30.

Jacob Joseph.png

The first short unknown period of time
before the 7 years of harvest began in Egypt
When Joseph was let out of prison he interpreted Pharaoh's dreams and said God will shortly bring about 7 years of harvest and 7 years of famine. After this Pharaoh set Joseph in authority over the land of Egypt when he was 30 years of age shortly before the 7 years of harvest began, Genesis 41:32-46.

Joseph speaks to Pharaoh.png

Genesis 41:32-35 And the doubling of Pharaoh's dream means that the thing is fixed by God, and God will shortly bring it about.

So how much time did Pharaoh have to appoint overseers to prepare storehouses for the grain before the 7 years of harvest began? The scriptures are silent on exactly how much time Joseph had to prepare for the harvest after he was 30 years old.

The second unknown period of time is when Joseph
told his brothers to bring their father back to him in Egypt
After the 7 years of harvest and the first 2 years of famine, Joseph was approximately 39+ years of age when he revealed himself to his 11 brothers who came to Egypt a second time to buy grain.

And it was at this time when Joseph told his brothers to return to their father and bring their families back to him in Egypt so they could be saved from the remaining 5 years of famine, Genesis 45:5-11.

Joseph reveals himself.png

So how long did it take for the 11 brothers to return to their father and bring the 66 members of Jacob's family back to Joseph in Egypt? Again its difficult to know how long this period of time was in Joseph's life, Genesis 46:26.

Joseph is 30 1.png

These two short unknown periods of time in Joseph's life reveal that he was about 40 years old when he met his father Jacob at the age of 130 when he came to Egypt to be saved from the 7 years of famine.

Therefore Jacob was approximately 90 years of age when Rachel gave birth to Joseph after 7 years of barrenness in marriage.

Jacob is 83 when he marries Leah and Rachel
And 7 years earlier when Jacob was 83, he was tricked by Laban into marrying the older weak-eyed sister Leah first, and when her bridal week was completed he married Rachel. After Jacob married his two wives at 83, he worked another 7 years for Laban in payment for Rachel as his bride, Genesis 29:25-28.

Rachel Leah 1.png

Jacob who was 83 when he married Leah and Rachel is symbolic for when Jesus will begin dealing with his two wives, Old and New Covenant Israel when the end-time nation is 83 years old from 1948 when the tribulation begins in 2031.

Leah the older bride tried to earn Jacob's love by bearing children
The first wife Leah whose name means weary, is the older sister who had weak eyes that tried to earn Jacob's love by giving birth to 6 sons.

Genesis 29:31-32 When the LORD saw that Leah was hated (loved less than Rachel), he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren (for 7 years). (32) And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, "Because the LORD has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me."

Genesis 29:34 Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, "Now this time my husband will be attached to me, because I have borne him three sons." Therefore his name was called Levi.

Genesis 30:18-20 Leah said, "God has given me my wages because I gave my servant to my husband." So she called his name Issachar. (19) And Leah conceived again, and she bore Jacob a sixth son. (20) Then Leah said, "God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons." So she called his name Zebulun.

These details regarding Leah who became weary as she tried earn Jacob's love by giving birth to 6 children, are symbolic for self-righteous Old Covenant Israel who weary themselves by trying to please God through the works of the law that cannot take away sin, instead of trusting in the Lamb of God who was sacrificed on the cross for their sins, Genesis 29:30-35, 30:17-20, Hebrews 7:18-19, 10:11-12.

Isaiah 28:11-13 For by people of strange lips and with a foreign tongue the LORD will speak to this people, (12) to whom he has said, "This is rest; give rest to the weary; and this is repose"; yet they would not hear. (13) And the word of the LORD will be to them precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little, that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Isaiah 43:22, 24 "Yet you did not call upon me, O Jacob; but you have been weary of me, O Israel! (24) You have not bought me sweet cane with money, or satisfied me with the fat of your sacrifices (by faith). But you have burdened me with your sins; you have wearied me with your iniquities.

Leah, a type for weak eyed Old Covenant Israel
2 Corinthians 3:14 But their minds were blinded. For to this day, when they read the Old Covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away.

Rachel the young bride who was beautiful in form
Rachel the younger sister whose name means young lamb, was beautiful in form whom Jacob loved. Rachel is a type for New Covenant Israel who listen to the Shepherd's voice and follow Jesus by faith in a New and better Covenant, that will become the righteous and beautiful bride of Christ by faith, Isaiah 62:3-5, John 10:27, Romans 9:7-8.

Jeremiah 2:2-3 "Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the LORD, "I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown. (3) Israel was holy to the LORD, the firstfruits of his harvest. All who ate of it incurred guilt; disaster came upon them, declares the LORD."

The 144,000 are the first-fruits that follow Jesus
Rachel may be symbolic for the 144,000, the first-fruits who are the faithful bride that follow Jesus in the tribulation, as they declare the gospel of salvation to Israel seeking to give birth to born-again children of God, Revelation 12:14-17, 14:1-5.

Revelation 14:4 It is these (the 144,000) who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb,

Revelation 12:17 Then the dragon became furious with the woman (the 144,000) and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And he stood on the sand of the sea.

Rachel was barren for 7 years when she gave birth to Joseph
Rachel was barren for the first 7 years of her marriage until she gave birth to Joseph when Jacob was 90. After Joseph's birth Jacob worked 6 more years for his flocks, Genesis 30:25-32, 31:41.

Jacob worked 7 years.png

I believe Rachel giving birth to Joseph (a type for Christ) after 7 years of barrenness when Jacob was 90, is symbolic for when Jesus is born into the hearts of a remnant of Israel by faith in a New Covenant after 7 years of tribulation darkness, when the end-time nation (of Jacob) is 90 years old in 2038, Galatians 4:19, Jeremiah 30:6-7, Isaiah 54:1.

Isaiah 54:1 "Sing, O barren one, who did not bear (Rachel); break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who have not been in labor (for 7 years of tribulation)! For the children (born) of the desolate one (Rachel--New Covenant Israel) will be more than the (unrighteous) children of her who is married (through the Old Covenant law--Leah)," says the LORD.

The birth of the last son Benjamin,
symbolic for Israel's salvation at the end of the tribulation
After working for Laban 20 years, Jacob left with his wives and children and they put away their foreign gods and changed their garments. At Bethel Jacob built and altar to the Lord and when he arrived at Paddam-aram God appeared to him and said, "Your name is Jacob; no longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." Genesis 35:1-10

Jacob working 20 years for Laban represents the 2,000 year gospel age that's followed by the tribulation, when a remnant of unrighteous Israel (Jacob) will turn away from their false gods and trust in Jesus and be called the Israel of faith, clothed in new garments of Christ's righteousness.

On the way to Bethlehem Ephrath, Rachel died in labor giving birth to Jacob's last son Benjamin who she named “son of my trouble,” but Jacob called “son of my right hand.” Genesis 35:16-20

Rachel's story appears to be a prophecy for the spiritual birth of a remnant of end-time Israel through the labor pains and trouble of the 144,000 evangelists (Rachel) in the tribulation, when one-third of the nation will be born-again through faith in Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb of God who was born in Bethlehem that now sits at the right hand of his Father in heaven.

Zechariah 13:8-9 In the whole land, declares the LORD, two thirds (of Israel) shall be cut off and perish, and one third (of Israel) shall be left alive (by faith in a New Covenant). (9) And I will put this third into the fire (of tribulation), and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'They are my people'; and they will say, 'The LORD is my God.'"

Another interesting detail is Rachel's name has a gematria of 238, which may be another mysterious clue for Israel's New Covenant birth in Christ at the end of the tribulation in 2038.

Rebekah accepts the offer to become Isaac's bride
In the prophetic story of when Rebekah became Isaac's bride, the gematria of Isaac's name in two scriptures is also 238, Genesis 24:4, 14, 66, 25:5.

Rebekah who accepted the offer to become Isaac's bride and decided to leave her household instead of remaining 10 days with her family, is symbolic for those in Israel who choose to seek their Messiah in the tribulation that's represented by the 10 days of the Feast of Trumpets, Genesis 24:51-60.

  • In this story Abraham sent his servant Eliezer to go and find a bride for his son Isaac, just as the Father in heaven sends the Holy Spirit to find a bride for Jesus.

Genesis 24:4 but will go to my country and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son Isaac." (238)
  • Eliezer prayed to God that he would reveal Isaac's bride.

Genesis 24:14 Let the young woman to whom I shall say, 'Please let down your jar that I may drink,' and who shall say, 'Drink, and I will water your camels'--let her be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac (238). By this I shall know that you have shown steadfast love to my master."
  • When Rebekah is brought to Isaac (who is a type for Jesus) she sees him coming in the distance just as a remnant in Israel will see Jesus coming in the clouds to save them.

Genesis 24:64-66 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the camel (65) and said to the servant, "Who is that man, walking in the field to meet us?" The servant said, "It is my master." So she took her veil and covered herself. (66) And the servant told Isaac (238) all the things that he had done.

  • After Isaac took Rebekah to be his bride Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.

Genesis 25:5 Abraham gave all he had to Isaac (238).
  • John 3:35-36 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. (36) Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
  • The gematria of 'Isaac' in the majority of scripture is 208. However in this one particular story of Rebekah's journey to become Isaac's bride, the gematria of Isaac is 238.

  • So is this just a coincidence, or is Isaac's gematria of 238 in this wedding story prophetically suggesting that a faithful remnant in Israel will accept the Holy Spirit's offer to become Jesus bride at the end of the tribulation in 2038?
In the following articles I examine the scriptures that seem to be pointing to the years of 2031 to 2038 when the tribulation will take place.

Is the year when the tribulation ends written in scripture?
