• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I was combating some bad thoughts and was going to say "Please Holy Spirit don't leave me" but I forgot the word "don't". I said this out loud. I immediately corrected myself but idk if this is it for me.

What do you guys think?

I'd say you need to ask yourself would you throw your child away because they made a slip in not saying a word?

If you think that saying one word on accident will make God up and abandon you, I think you need to adopt a higher view of God. He isn't waiting around looking for an excuse to leave you.

"For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." (Phillipians 1:6)
"This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day." (John 6:39)
"If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself." (2 Timothy 2:16)
If you are saved, God will not leave you. He will remain faithful to save you and keep you, despite the stupid mistakes you make.

Also, try to stop praying these "please don't leave me" type of prayers. You're begging for something you already have. As someone who's gone through the exact same fears as you, I can say this type of fear is dysfunctional. It's like a kid begging his parents not to disown him. The only kids who would do something like that either have no concept of reality, or they have been emotionally abused. You've been abused by OCD, which tells you that God is too weak to save you and your salvation depends on your own efforts. THAT'S WRONG! DON'T LISTEN TO IT! :amen:

Instead of praying that God will not leave you, pray that he will remind you that he will be with you until the end of the age. Instead of praying that he take your thoughts away, pray for strength to serve him in spite of the thoughts, and the strength to complete your treatments (btw, are you seeking any sort of behavioral therapy for your OCD? Drugs alone don't help most people long term).

I wasn't praying exactly. I got bad thoughts into my head which were telling the Holy Spirit to leave and I was verbally saying things against this, but messed up. However I guess you are right that I am still saved.

Ah, I understand. I sometimes do the same thing. I eventually found that, for me, it wound up being a compulsion that I did to make myself feel better. Like all compulsions, it eventually made the problem worse, not better. And saying stuff over and over again left me open to making mistakes and saying the "wrong" thing, which made me even more anxious.

You mis-spoke ... do you not think God knows that? He knows our thoughts.

The Lord will never leave you not forsake you. This is His promise to you. Deuteronomy 31:6. The word them in your case is your thoughts! Thoughts have no bearing on your salvation buddy but rather it's the finished work of Jesus Christ that you are saved! Tell your thoughts that and be strong and courageous and mentally take a sword and kill those thoughts. Read Hebrews 9 & 10. You are no longer required to pay a debt for your salvation. Christ did it and don't be afraid of Hell because he bore all your iniquities at the cross in Isaiah 53. All means every and there is nothing outside of all. You will not reject Christ. Thoughts cant make you reject him either. Live in His love now you are free
