Well, looking, for some people, can be a difficult bit of work. Some people are prone to just listening to certain radio or television folks or only reading a certain type of written material. They are prone to only 'hearing' what they want to hear and 'seeing' what they want to see. Paul spoke of people who would surround themselves with those who would fill their itching ears with what they wanted to hear. Of course, he was likely referring to spiritual matters, but the 'type' would naturally carry over into other matters of one's ability to discern the truth.
Yes, I believe there has been ample effort made by many to denounce the needless violence, but it has always been thus. America's history, at least for the last 60 years has produced a plethora of similar cases. The Watts riots used to be one of the biggest and went on for days. I think that has now been surpassed by this most recent unrest, as far as length and breadth. However, I'm not sure that the destruction has surpassed what happened in Watts.
