Good Day All!

I am hoping to learn some habits from some of the more seasoned & experienced people on the Bible Forums board.

Establishing a daily practice of reading the Bible has been daunting.

Is there a set "schedule" that you have or recommend for people to get constant exposure to the Bible?

I can't seem to sit down for more than 15 minutes without getting distracted recently. I know it's important to practice daily.

I know there are some services out there that will send you a Bible Verse via Text Message daily like (https://biblehint.com) - I'm not sure if people have had any luck with them or not? I figure maybe I shouldn't fight technology anymore and use it to help me out a little bit.

Does anyone have any creative ideas or solutions here?

Thank you and God bless!

Hi Christianman89,

If you're able to spend 10-15 minutes a day and be consistent with that, I think that's great! Keeping reasonable and achievable goals - and sticking with them - will help you form healthy reading "habits" and, once it is a part of your regular life, you can increase your time by 5 min a month or whatever. But remember, it's not about quantity. It's about spending time with Jesus, reading His Word, and talking to Him so He can speak to you and you can hear His voice. Some weeks or months you will be able to spend more time. Other weeks or months, less. Being consistent with reading is the goal, not the amount of time, per se.

Here are a few pointers about reading that everyone can benefit from:

  1. Decide to make reading your Bible a priority. Remember — it is an essential component of your spiritual growth and development. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

  2. Choose a realistic time of day when you have the least amount of distractions and the most opportunity for consistent success. Remember — night owls and mornings may not mesh well, so choose wisely. (James 1:5)

  3. Spend 5-15 minutes daily of quality time reading the New Testament, praying beforehand and afterward. Remember — it is better to start with small, realistic goals and be consistent with them rather than setting unrealistic goals that you cannot maintain. The goal is to build spiritual intimacy with Jesus, not to check off a box on your to-do list. (1 Timothy 4:13)

  4. Stay consistent and refuse to beat yourself up over missing a day or week of Bible reading. Remember — if you get off track, just start fresh the following day, not looking backward but continually moving forward. (Philippians 3:12-14)

You can do this! Remember, building intimacy with Jesus and letting Him speak to you through His Word is not a “sprint.” It is a lifelong marathon that is worth the time, effort, and commitment.

How To Read The Bible – King James Bible Believers Website The man who wrote the article was a very advanced reader. It's long but worthwhile reading. Even if you only apply some of the strategies.

BTW 15 minutes a day is considered the right amount for finishing the Bible once every year. Nothing wrong with that!

Also a good plan is the seven book types a week in this software: Create and manage your own Bible Reading Plan You read different amounts each day which can be good or bad. God bless!

Read 1 Psalm, 4 Old testament, and 2 New Testament chapters a day, and you'll complete the Bible in 6 months. 15-20 minutes a day. Twice a year easily. (Just get a copy of Bible books with chapter index and check them off with a highlighter.)

Start each day with a prayer and a proverb chapter.

After that fit some more chapters in as you can it might not be 15 solid minutes it might be 5 minutes here 5 minutes there. Maybe throw in a few psalms daily as well.

What parts of the Bible you read may be more important than how much time you have to read. Jesus quoted certain verses in his speeches. God knows if a sparrow falls from the sky. God knows how many hairs are on your head. (Matthew 10:29-30). You might like to study the Gospels, Acts etc.

Welcome to CF. Here's a few ideas for your consideration.
1) do topic or word studies.
2) watch "One Night with the King" and compare it to the book of Esther or watch "The Passion of Christ" and compare it to the gospels - realizing that theatrical liberalities were taken but you would know which parts were scriptural,
3) study the tabernacles and temples - looking at similarities and differences or this site shows pictures of the furnishings such as Images of the Tabernacle of Moses: God's Prophetic Pattern | Study material, pictures, drawings, and posters There's almost 50 chapters. Do you see Yeshua? Or study the feasts of The Lord Do you see Yeshua there also?
4) compare the accounts In the gospels
5) look at a list of Biblical characters and see what the scriptures have to say about that person. Here’s one site that has some listed Bible Personality Profiles - Biblical Characters and Personalities - Christ-Centered Mall
6) Or study Jewish customs and perspectives to have a better understanding of many Scriptures.
7) Or read a Scripture from several versions such as Darby, AMPC, TPT. and think about it through the day.
