That's pretty sad. I believe everyone has evil thoughts which is called sin. We act on them, much like any other sin. But what makes racism a morally reprehensible sin that cannot be forgiven? Murder apparently can be forgiven or perhaps any other horrible thing in our society. I won't mention what things God hates the most that we do daily and trot on about our day like it's no worry. But I don't even see racism mentioned in the Bible as a sin, so...? How do I think about that? I don't think it was a worry in the day perhaps because people didn't let nonsense like that get under their skin? Hint hint

I think all of this is horribly disproportioned honestly. Getting back at people for what they said 20 some odd years ago is a pretty douchey move.

Everyone has said or done things that are / were foolish, hasty, unkind, and in many cases even bigoted. This is especially true of those who lived and worked in decades past.

Tearing down the past will not heal anyone in the present. Nor will it help anyone in need of mercy, justice, care, or legal help because of another's racism in the present.

OK fair enough. They want to change now the name of the Airport back to what it was. Henceforth though they should never, never do this again....name ANYTHING after ANYBODY! All you're really doing is hurting the decedents of such ones putting shame on their once proud legacy. You might as well strip all names off Air Craft carriers or even American cities and towns. You might call them City or District 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 . Maybe even take it to District 12 and make it a REAL Hungers Game. Today's heroes will be viewed as tomorrows villains anyway so why not spare everybody the trouble and make the adjustments now.

Renaming an airport isn’t tearing down the past, and things get renamed all the time, often because a private company is advertising. You can’t really speak for others of you say it won’t heal or help anything, clearly a lot of people feel differently.

Hollywood is notorious for casting the crud of society. John Wayne was pretty good, considering.
I liked when he called everyone pilgrim. That was my favorite thing about him.

You're confusing the real Wayne with a character he played in a movie.

'Pilgrim' wasn't John Wayne talking - it was just part of a movie script.

Well, I'm at a loss for words then. I guess I need to watch more of his movies. I thought he said that often. My mistake.

If you want to find Wayne using the term 'pilgrim' in a movie try "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance".
Wayne repeatedly referred to his co-star James Stewart as 'pilgrim'.

On a related topic, you may also be surprised to hear that Charlton Heston isn't actually Moses.

He was an overrated actor, anyways, with maybe one movie (The Sands of Iwo Jima) that was any good. Popular, though, with the same demographic that gave us Ronald Reagan.

I am entertained by John Wayne movies but only because his acting is so awful it’s unintended comedy.

And now we have the supposedly successful businessman of The Apprentice. Literally many people believed he was that man on that show.

My mom growing up actually imagined Charlton Heston as actually being Moses lol. She said that when she went to church she would imagine him as being Moses when they would read about Exodus.

I think if we are going to hold him accountable and we should then we should take down BLM for all their comments. I'm not going to post their racist rhetoric but it is easily found.
People make comments. BLM isnt a person. I'm all for removing statues of any BLM affiliated individuals whove made racist comments. But on the whole, BLM supporters are ok.

I prefer Clint Eastwood. At least Eastwood didn't become a mythic figure in the eyes of the American right, nor did he spend all his time persecuting perceived political dissidents.

John Wayne did a fantastic job acting as himself. He did a terrible job acting as anyone else.

I do think we need to get away from naming things after people. Especially aircraft carriers. We should go back to names like Enterprise.
