And "African Americans" are not the same as "Americans that have emigrated from Africa."

Johnboy.. haha well I've been watching these a TWINS.. they are on youtube.. and they are so funny. They really haha talk about this "African American". Saying your not.. your born here your an American. And say lol.. get made at Africa for they sold you! And a simple truth is.. some WHITE PEOPLE are African American. IF born there.

You know my wife is 1st gen Chinese. Parents came from China. And we've been together since she was 19 and shes 58 now. Truth. no one has ever called her a "Chinese American". Ask her.. shes American.

Now.. if someone wants to say they are African American.. praise God.

"Part of what was stolen, when we think about slavery, when we think about colonization, was that lineage," said Watkins-Hayes. "[They are saying] 'I don't even feel comfortable claiming African, because I don't know the story of where my people have come from.'"

An honest and fair appraisal of the deficiencies in the term "African-American".

The different lived-experience of former slaves in America vs. Africans is one reason that projects like Liberia didn't pan out.

Ancestry doesn't necessarily make for identity. I have a Native American ancestor, but I would never claim to be Native American.

2 cents worth: Ultimately, we are all descended from Africans. It's just that some of us remained in Africa and some of us left earlier than others. Thinking the distinction is important seems to be an ongoing source of strife.

I believe in the hypothesis of Panspermia. I identify as a Comet-American.
