I would think it would be preferable if it was a hoax. Better a hoax than an attempt at actual racist intimidation. I certainly was relieved to find out that Jesse Smollett staged a hoax rather than there being two racist homophobe thugs wandering around Chicago late at night looking for semi famous gay black actors to prey a upon.

Though I'm not sure what purpose a hoax would have. He already got a lot of notoriety from driving a BLM car and calling for the Confederate flag to be banned.

I am not proposing it was a hoax I'm just saying I would prefer a hoax to racist intimidation. People always have an idea of what they wish accomplish with a hoax and their reasoning often doesn't make sense. For instance, what did Jesse Smollett think he was going to accomplish?

Jesse Smollett was hoping the notoriety from the attack would raise his profile enough to justify a raise when he renegotiated his contract for the next season.

Let's be clear. There is no evidence to support the hoax theory. Obviously there is no security cam footage of the actual deed or we would already have seen it.

Even if it is a hoax, Wallace would not necessarily have been in on it.

Why jump to that? Honestly, that idea does not make sense.

Personally, I can believe someone got mad enough not to think it through and put it there. I don't think this helps Bubba's cause at all, NASCAR was doing what he asked for, no reason to overplay his hand.

I would rather it was genuine hatred rather than an undermining of everything he has been fighting for.

If it is a hoax and he faked it, his cause will be lost and all the changes NASCAR did will be reversed. There is no reason for him to risk all that, nothing to gain now. NASCAR and most of its drivers have made it clear before this, they are all in on removing racism from the sport.

FBI determines Wallace not victim of hate crime

Breaking:

The FBI has said that it... was not a noose.

Back around October someone fashioned a rope as a pull handle for one of the garage doors in the bay Wallace was using, and that this is what Wallace and his team were claiming to be a noose.

Yes, that rope handle had been on the door this entire time, and only now did anyone deem to take offense at it...

Two possibilities then...

1) Bubba Wallace is really that dumb.

2) It was a deliberate hoax.

Trump was a response to Obama, and America is willing to watch the nation burn down to the ground before blacks are considered human, and ethnic minorities in general are considered human.

When people say, "It's 2020; racism doesn't exist!" it is pitiful; it shows either a tremendous ignorance of fellow citizen, or an unwillingness to acknowledge something that is profitable for one and subjugation for the other.


Bubba Wallace is young; he thinks because of the times he can penetrate a sport that is known for dixie flags and other such things. He will understand soon enough where his "place" in America is...

Or Bubba Wallace will succeed. Something different for him than any who came before him is that there are companies willing to sacrifice brand identity to avoid coming off as racist. If NASCAR doesn’t appear to want to purge racists, they are going to start seeing a lack of sponsorship on their race cars. Add those dropping dollars to the hit NASCAR is already taking because of COVID is a double whammy NASCAR will want to avoid. It’s still a steep uphill Bubba Wallace has to overcome but he does have conditions that are favorable to him.

The Nascar market has never catered to African Americans; if their sponsorship wasn't hurt by the numerous dixie flags at events, it won't be hurt by a noose. Bubba is young; he will learn his place in America as all do that look like him. Right now, it is "cool" and "exciting" to be part of a movement.

But, the movement is always hackneyed; nothing is actually going to change, and the incentive to change comes from financial worry rather than humanity. Companies are more aware of racism than the layperson because racism is profitable. Nascar needs to get in on this "awareness" movement - as if decades of declarations have meant nothing and the 2020 noose is "too much".

It's incredible the gall exhibited...

Good news, they did an investigation and found no harm or malice. Nonetheless, we need to vigilant against the scourge of racism that still survives in the United States.

It was nothing more than a hoax by a BLM supporter. Not one man in the world could look at a garage door pull rope and think it was a hate symbol. I have one on both my garage doors. The only person that would see it as a hate symbol would have to be the size of a smurf.

So... in October or so of last year, a BLM supporter sneaks into the garage knowing that eight months later, the only Black driver would see it in that garage. BLM psychic teams....

I've been keeping up with this case closely... This is serious stuff.
