Yeah, I used to be an avid hiker at high school. Nowadays I rarely go hiking, I mean some big trips like I did with my friends. We were visiting Yellowstone national park, which was fantastic but took some time to prepare as was told in this article.
My last hike was in November, it was just a cozy family trip to a local forest. Though we were traveling with RV trailer so some might say that wasn't actual hike

Well, with this virus, I'm not going to VA to hike on the trail. :(

There is a long trail around Boston, so I've been out two days so far, last week, to hike on that. Would have gone today, but it was miserable out.

I’m just starting to get in to it. I’m a newbie, just short hikes in nearby parks. We might go for a trip to Big Cedar Lodge sometime this fall and they have some neat trails nearby.

YES. Absolutely adore hiking and being out in nature and away from civilization as much as possible. I do most of my hiking in spring and fall. Summers are too hot and buggy.

What do you use to hold your stuff (phone, water bottle etc.) on short hikes? Backpack? Fannypack? What?

I'm still struggling to find something that's comfortable and easy to use for this. I tried a messenger-type bag (that goes cross-wise across your body and hangs at the hip) but it bounces around a lot. I need to find a good, small backpack, I guess. I also take a camera with me, but I just carry it in my hand most of the time. I put my phone in my pocket.

I have a bag (purse? Messenger bag?) that I thought would work but I think the bouncing would be annoying.

I look at hiking as being done in the wilderness. Not like walking down a sidewalk or through a park. Feet on dirt :D
I agree, with one exception. We have new paved trails at a nearby park that meanders through wooded areas and alongside the Mississippi River. I consider that hiking, too.
