Are you referring to the Rawls quote? The participants in the orginal position and under the veil of ignorance are the ones who decide. If you did not know what your social position would be, so that you could have advantages or not, you would decide what is just and equal across the board. And you would make that decision just in case you ended up having no advantage. That's the whole point of the veil of ignorance.

hmmm .. well admittedly I'm not familiar with it .... might look into it ... but probably not .... the world is becoming more and more chaotic every day ... the heart of man will never change ... in the meantime ... I just do the best with what I have to work with knowing the Lord will get me through ... come what may.

Just a question. We hear that different segments of culture have not been treated equally and haven't been given fair opportunity.

Question.....What if you took all the money away from Billionaires, Millionaires, the Middle Class and everyone and you divided it up equally right now to every adult citizen in the country....what exactly after say 4 years would you see, and why would you see it.

Would everything be totally changed to WONDERFUL? Or would we be rather surprised at what we'd find? Any thoughts?
Most rich people don't have much money, they have assets and commodities. If they were forced to sell their accents and commodities and divide it among the poor, those companies those commodities are invested in would crash and burn; countless people would be without jobs due to factory closures and companies closing down, and the economy would come to a screeching halt. The people who received the free money would not invest it but would spend it, and it would be all gone in a matter of months.

You already know - money held in bank accounts. Not just actual currency in circulation.

Fair enough, but the money held in bank accounts gets lent out to individuals and to businesses. It doesn't just sit in a box somewhere.

I have no large stash of money anywhere. Where do you stash yours's in the mattress ? In a can under a rock? Why would anyone hoard money? It is a losing proposition due to inflation.

No one spends every penny they make as soon as they make it.

Agreed, I remember having read one book on personal finances (dont remember which as it was a few years ago), that following the Pareto principle, 80% of people would spend the money while 20% would invest it and we'd be back where we started.

That being said, the issue I have is that the wealthy in the US have lower tax rates in general because the way we have our tax system set up. We try to encourage investing by supporting a long-term capital gains tax that is lower than regular income. If your ordinary income is between $40k and 400k, long term capital gains is 20% for 2019-2020. However, due to inflation of housing and higher education, even if you manage your money well, you probably cant invest that much if you are also saving for a house and college, whether for your kids or yourself. If you live in an area with good jobs, you're probably paying for it and while your income may look great on paper, you are also being taxed at a higher rate. People say move, but as from personal experience of living in Boston for 12 years that is easier said than done. For a 3 bedroom apartment in Boston you might being paying $2000-3000 a month. If you want to move to the suburbs, most landlords expect a down payment of 2 months down and a month rest for a security deposit. So right out the bat, you need to save $6000-9000 just to get a new place. You get hit with a job change or some other unexpected expense and everything you've saved is gone.

True when they say someone is a billionaire that doesn't mean he's got it in tangible things like gold bars or silver. Most of it is paper wealth and ownership of things. But again if you could do this type of thing disperse wealth evenly as best as one could.....come back 4 years later would the ones rich prior more or less be the same ones rich again? And wouldn't that have to be because they have wisdom....and a wise person generally will rise above others who aren't. And some are criminal in in how they increase in wealth I get that....but then again some are just genuinely wise?

Contrary to what socialists believe, wealth redistribution isn’t about making everyone equally rich; it’s about making everyone equally poor.

I can't really speak for anyone else...but I would quit my job.

If I get the same income as someone who doesn't work, then I'd feel like a sucker for working.

The root of the problem is not solved and so the spirits that dominate will remain. We reap what we sow. If everything was made equal it would quickly go out of balance again. I don't know how we can even divide everything equally, we must first clarify what equal means. We are all equal in some ways and we are all unequal in others. it's better to try to keep refining and perfecting a basic minimum than it is to try to rearrange everything which is a much harder and impossible thing.

When possible, alternative ways of life should not be hindered by the dominant systems. It will take much more to solve The World's problems than the current dominant systems. religions such as Christianity have to step up a great deal if they wish to transform the world into the kingdom of God.

It depends on how much that would be for each individual adult. What is the total amount of wealth and how many adult citizens do we have? It would be an interesting thought experiment if we had some numbers to consider.

It's money that would be divided up, not wealth.
