A born again believer is just as sinless as the righteousness of God can make them, thru the Blood Atonement.
There is no sin in Christ, and we are "in Christ".
The purpose of God as Jesus coming here was to fulfill the law, which establishes Grace, and to become our sin, which resolved our sin issue that allowed God to give us His Righteousness as our OWN.

Jesus as God on the Cross didn't just forgive sin, .. HE BECAME our sin... And not just ours, but the sin of the world.
The blood atonement pays for the sin of the world, but its not applied unless the person comes to the Cross and is saved. = born again.
SALVATION, is always waiting to save everyone, but not everyone will come to the Cross and be forgiven and born again.

So, "the gift of Righteousness" that we receive as our "justification by faith", is God's own Righteousness.
The question is.... how RIGHTEOUS is God's righteousness? How HOLY is "the Gift of Righteousness", that we receive.

And not only do we receive it by Faith, but by being born again as a "new creation IN CHRIST" this righteousness BECOMES US.
Its our new IDENTITY.....we are become 'IN CHRIST"....this is who we are if we are born again. We are born again AS the sinlessness of Christ and born again INTO the very Spirit of God, by the Spirit of God.
God had to restore us to 1st Adam position, and did so, by way of the 2nd Adam who is Jesus THE Christ.

look at this NT verse....and believe it.

"as Jesus IS........so ARE.....the born again, ... IN THIS WORLD".

So, is there any sin in Jesus?
And YOU if you are born again, are "IN CHRIST" and Jesus is in YOU.
The reason a born again person has eternal life, is because JESUS IS ETERNAL LIFE< and He is in us, if we are born again.
Salvation, is JESUS
Grace, is JESUS
The BLood Atonement, is JESUS
You go to heaven because of JESUS.
Believe the verse that says. "as Christ is so are the born again in this WORLD".... and see yourself as God has made you to be..
The born again are "made righteous"....by God, thru the blood of Jesus.
This is why we are not to think of ourselves as "sinners".
We were sinners before we were born again...
The unbelievers are sinners.....so, READER, do not equate yourself to those Christ Rejectors.....but instead see yourself as God sees you always.
You are "the righteousness of God, IN CHRIST"..

1 John 1:8

English Standard Version
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

As long as we remain in Him we are being sanctified through the Holy Spirit ... we are not sinless but He will complete His work in us.

Phillippians 1:6

English Standard Version
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

We are being sanctified

It’s the reciprocation of our love toward God. We are sanctified with the help of the Holy Spirit (Comforter) that Jesus gives us. Sanctification means to set a part or to make holy. His Holy Spirit helps us in this process to become more like Christ. This is not a one time event; it’s a life long process (we stumble here and there). The process of sanctifying and purifying us (the works that Jesus does in the believer, and is not of ourselves) ... it is HIM working in us and through us. We are separated from the world. We are in the physical world but not of the world spiritually. Our mind (thinking) changes over time and therefore our actions also change. Our faith increases more and more as He faithfully works in us. Hebrews 12:2

I think some are getting stuck on just the wording...yes praise God like Father Abraham.. we are righteous in right standing with the Father because we believe in Christ. God is faithful to what Christ did. He sees us know through Christ. And its no longer I that sin but sin that is in me. Me.. the new man.. I put on which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

YES all praise and glory to Christ.. to the Father..

Look at the context.
Is the apostle talking to trees or the moon?
C'mon.
Study your NT, don't just argue because you enjoy it.

You should keep reading....

Yes, the blood of Jesus is a finished Atonement.
But, is everyone born again?
No.
Why is that?
Because the universal offer of the Blood Atonement, is not APPLIED to anyone who has not by Faith receives Christ.
"all that call on the name of the Lord shall me saved".....BUT NOT ALL WILL CALL.
Yet, that offer of Salvation, is always there, for everyone in the entire world of humanity.
But its not applied to everyone, as its only applied to those who have been born again.

Very good post and rich in the truth of what the divine reconciliation, that Jesus established, really implies to all of us.

I would disagree with just one point. Being restored back to the status of Adam. I see Adam as flesh and blood, from the earth, unable to touch the tree of life.

We are an entirely new creation in Christ and a spiritual creation, not of this world. Seated with Christ in the heavenly realms. The old has passed and the new has arrived.

The born again are "made righteous"

Definition of righteous

1 : acting in accord with divine or moral law : free from guilt or sin
Definition of RIGHTEOUS

(CLV) 1Jn 3:9
Everyone who is begotten of God is not doing sin, for His seed is remaining in him, and he can not be sinning, for he is begotten of God.

Sanctification is an on-going process ... throughout our lifetime.

Hebrews 10:14
For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

At any time one can choose to walk away from the Lord ... and some do.

That definition of righteous is from a human perspective. We have the righteousness of Christ as a gift.

Give me divine righteousness.

Romans 5:17
For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

A Good and Faithful Servant. Luke 12:
42
And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?
43 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.
44 Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has.
45 But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk,
46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
47 And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few.
For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

2 Peter 3:18.
Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

As we grow in Grace, and the knowledge of the Father's Will for us, more is expected of us. This is not the message of salvation, or trying to earn salvation by works. It is called Stewardship.
When I was in the Navy, a lot a people who reached second class Petty Officer had to be forced to prepare for the 1st class exam when the time came. That is because they were comfortable with their paycheck and did not want all the extra responsibilities that came with moving up.
In the Bible, it is called "settling on the lees."
