Christians are such willing tools for this president. And he knows it. He's waving it right in their faces.

What does betraying the Son of God matter as long as they have their thirty pieces of silver?

It's not as though someone was using the altar as a prop.

Interesting. Is that your line in the sand? Could you explain it to me? What is it about holding up the bible as a prop that's OK but standing in front of an altar would not be?

It also shows what he thinks of churches and the Bible if they can be used as props for his campaigning purposes.

I've been saying that about the GOP (and the Church) for years.

Being that the church building was set afire (by "peaceful protesters," in the view of the church )

and it's almost a national monument, based on its location and past history...

...which has now been desecrated. Whether the fire or this cheap attempt at exploitation did more damage is a question I'll leave to the historians.

Brick and mortar can be easily repaired... reputation cannot.

it looks like Bishop Budde doth protest too much.

Yeah, what right does she have to complain...? She's lucky she wasn't there to get gassed...

It's not as though someone was using the altar as a prop.

Nope, nothing that important. Merely a Bible.

Tear gas was used. Because Trump wont deal with normal people defending a black, liberal or mentally disabled and murder victims, that aren't Conservative . Trump encourages bad behavior. Trump only cares about rich people only. I'm glad this church is out raged, By such evil.

My only concern is that we don't rush to judgement base on speculation or vague anecdotal assumptions.
Or maybe the president shouldn't have even had the peaceful protesters cleared AT ALL just so he can get a stupid photo op.

Trump clearly doesn't understand much about his evanglical base.

He doesn't have to. Stand in front of the building and wave the book around... they'll lap it up every time.

Or maybe the rioters shouldn't have defaced and torched the church in the first place, and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Just a thought.....

I don't know about defacing, but it was one room in the basement of the church that was damaged according to Rev. Robert Fisher. And it was Sunday night, the day before the clearing of the park.

St. John's Church rector on aftermath of fire, impromptu Trump visit: 'Like I'm in some alternative universe'

They were handing out food on the porch when the federal forces decided to tear gas the protesters and had to leave the area as well. The clearing of the park had nothing to do with what was happening at the church.

And that's precisely what makes his act so disrespectful to Episcopalians. Episcopal churches aren't props.

Arson happens at churches for all sorts of reasons. A few years ago, an arsonist burned the social hall at my old church.

We should be careful about reading too much offense into these sorts of acts. Wisely, the Episcopalians in DC are not doing so, either.

You appear to be looking for a reason to object. What the bishop gave as reasons for being outraged was not what you've addressed but because...it was Trump. That's all it took and, no, there is no reason to think that a request beforehand would have met with that bishop's approval.

T-r-u-m-p was good enough to find fault with the President of the United States standing in front of the church and having his picture taken as thousands of people before hi8m have done, including many other presidents who posed for photos there.

I'm going to guess that the President would not issue a press release outlining his outrage if the bishop were to have her picture taken in front of the White House, though. ;)
Only if peaceful protesters were forcibly removed so that the bishop could have photo op.

Personally, I don't think of people who are throwing things and refusing to move aside so that the President could walk across the street "peaceful," but maybe that's just me.

Perhaps you’d like to show me in this video of the event where people threw things at the officers and where they were instructed to leave before being attacked.

It's about worship of power, or in other words, demonolatry.
