I just watched a Youtube documentary about the battle of Gettysburg > it has graphic stuff of people getting shot, blasted by cannon shells, and amputated, and all the shooting and killing hand-to-hand and a personal account of a guy who bled to death on the field while leaving a note, I think, and others who survived.

Compared to that, I might call the present situation kitten-chaos. And the Gettysburg battle was mature adult lion-with-the-rabies chaos, I might say as an understatement.

I find it interesting how people say let's get back to God, and they say put the Ten Commandments up somewhere. What about our Two Love Commandments? They keep having a way of slipping notice of certain ones who want to revive America.

Apparently there is no limit to the $ billions Americans are willing to spend on "defense" to deter a foreign aggressor but were caught totally unprepared to prevent a worldwide pandemic that has currently infected 1,800, 000 citizens and claimed over 105,000 lives!

Likewise, If past history is an indicator, the demise of great nations starts from within when the leadership loses interest and concern for large segments of its society, which in turn loses faith in the very principles upon which the country founded - it is only then that foreign adversaries pose a real threat!

A good essay on some of the things going on right now. May I add:

Of course God has a say in our leaders but he asks us to do something too.

We have almost gone off the rails, far fewer Christians and too many are worldly, some even calling evil good. This is not what the framers really envisioned.

So now America has become toxic. Issues of race, inequality, family breakdown and virtually no moral compass. We have a media with almost no scruples. God is looking to warn us and get our attention but am not sure many are listening, at least not yet. I wonder what it is going to take?

Ironically, the radicals of the left and right have assailed Joe Biden for treating his political opponents as human beings and for being willing to work with them to get things done.

Precisely the leadership qualities Trump lacks and the nation needs more than ever.

While it is true that men and women who get into power through politics are I believe for the most part corrupt. I do not think this is a harsh statement, since I doubt if I were to get into the political sandbox that I would be able to stay honest either. Too many temptations on all levels.

I have always found it funny that every four years we think that we will finally get a leader to get us out of our decades-long slide into chaos. Yet, no matter who gets into power, we continue our descent into the further deconstruction of our society.

Our politicians grow out of the rich soil of our world, and we are that soil. We place our hopes on men and women who are more messed up than we are, perhaps weaker in many ways because of what they have to deal with.......yes, in them we place our hope.

I do believe that this is the time for all believers, no matter their path, to really live what they say they believe. I would imagine that if this happened, perhaps things would change, or even turn around. However, I am not placing much hope in that.

Prayer is the gateway wherein we allow the 'Light' to enter into our hearts, allowing grace to transform us over time. When we forget that we have souls, we will not take care of our spirits, and seek healing and salvation in that which can only leave us empty, dry, brittle, disappointed, and bitter.

Events are happening so fast that the only peace available too many is to go inward and in doing that to find the courage to stand their ground, stay centered, and not be pulled in all directions by the press, and the other cultural fads that come and go. Which seems over time, to become more lethal to any kind of communal health in our society.

Our souls are connected to God, if our souls are light, then the darkness will withdraw from us allowing us to think more clearly.

Fanaticism, be it political, or religious, is what St. Paul would call 'the flesh'. It is normal for us to force others out, to condemn others, to hate what we fear. The light of God asks us to do the opposite, to die to merely instinctive ways of living and seek another way.

Doing our own will, seeking only what gives us satisfaction has brought us where we are today.

I wonder what our culture would be like if for one year the Ten Commandments were followed? Even unbelievers would find this helpful in their lives since many of them put us believers to shame.

Just think, one day a week giving over to rest. Family life held together, no stealing, or killing, or men and women cheating on each other. The ten commandments are rooted in the love of others, and to treat them with respect.

I know that will not happen. Yet as believers, we can seek to deepen our trust in God, to pray, to on a more conscious level seek to follow what Jesus taught us Christians to do.

I am not saying anything new, but every-time we fail to live out of our faith in a loving manner the ripple effect is extreme.

I find it interesting that in the NDE this is often brought to light. We will have to face all that we did to others, and experience what we put others through as they felt it. It is I believe a necessary step for us to go through so we can understand that all those people we see, those we know, and those we do not, are real, and need to be treated with respect, love, and consideration.

This is quite a ride we are on. I am not interested in changing anything, or anyone, I find it difficult enough dealing with myself. Yet I can pray for others, and I believe that prayer is our deep connection with all.--Br.MD

They are just politicians, they can't help that.

When I was young politicians were old men and they could talk underwater.

When I was in middle age I noticed they were not that old anymore. And they were on occasion not telling the truth and I knew it.

Older still and I notice how young many of them are. They just left school and they think they know, what they are talking about?

Very old now and I see through these wayward children. God help you all.
