K-38 Combat Masterpiece - Target trigger and hammer. The most consistently accurate gun I own. Uprighted the picture.

an AK in 5.56 would be perfection to my thinking, anyone else?
blessings
Should have bought one when I had the chance; but all AKs and their variants are prohibited up here, with the exception of the Valmet Hunter... but back in the early 80's I looked at one, brand new in the grease in 5.45 x 39. That would be quite a cartridge I would think. I did not buy the rifle because ammo was (and still is) hard come by, as were reloading components.

Now I have Rifle Envy!
I had the Saiga .308 before Obama stopped them from shipping to the US. It was a beast that would eat anything, however, my best loads were only good for 3moa at 100 yards which was not good enough for me. I tried everything but could not get any better. In a battle situation it would have been great, however we are not at war. I wanted accuracy more than bulk so I traded for a Mossberg Patrol which came with a 10 round magazine. I discovered it could take the M1A 20 round magazine so modified two of them to fit better, topped by a Vortex Crossfire II scope, fronted with a muzzle break I have something that will touch 3 holes with a cold barrel. I can put 20 rounds into the target at 100 yards in less than a minute with it so its all good.

Very nice! I do have a AK74 in 223, they did not change the rate of twist when going to the smaller caliber, so accuracy was not achieved. Good old Mossberg, still hanging in there and doing good, they and Savage have made some good products, not as big, not as well known, not running into product problems.

hmmm.... interesting to know, thank you!
Federal makes a 40 grain. Try one box, cold barrel with each shot. If it works make that your "accuracy" bullet. That doesn't necessarily mean that's all you can shoot of course. I would set up sighting system to the most accurate. Then, without changing the position of your sights see where 55 grain FMJ's hit in 3 shot (steady rest) hit and note the compensation you would need to make.

My AR, formerly classed "restricted" (range use only) has been re-classified by our Liberal government, and sits now in the back of my safe, never to see light of day until they decide to confiscate or buy it back. My registration certificate has been revoked, as all ARs have here in Canada, as well as some 1500 other types of firearms as of May 1, and the list keeps growing.

The liberty in amercia is that you can have guns for self-defence. The catch is that the crims probably have them too...

Over here in the UK shotguns are easy to hold, but self-defence is not treated as a reason to do so (you need to join a club).

For those of us who do not take that route, there are...others...to balance out the knife-wielding criminal who seeks to harm your loved-ones:

Yes, I do own (and just as importantly know how to use) this little beauty.

If you have a shotgun because "you are a member of a gun club", can you use it for self-defense?

If swords are legal, what other non-firearm weapons are legal?

You could, in theory, but if you used it in any situation but an armed home invasion (which NEVER happens here) you'd probably end up in prison.

Logic does not seem to figure much in the rules.

Depending on the circumstances, here in Canada, you could, as a last resort (courts would decide).
