In just a few months we have seen a country that prides itself on strength as a nation turn into a nation not coping and weak.

In the past months, we saw the USA grapple and wrestle back that curve that was climbing steeply re COVID infection and death rates. Now with the relaxation on restrictions, the rates of infection have climbed from 17000 to 25000 per day in just a week.

A president at odds with his own medical experts ie
  • recommendations re isolation and social distance
  • use of masks
  • ingestion or injection of disinfectants
  • Use of chloroquine
Riots and civil unrest across several states - some related to the a reaction against government-imposed COVID restrictions, and more recently, violent demonstrations of civil unrest against police killings.

Unemployment rates higher than the great depression
A sinking Dow Jones

Partisan divisions at their most divisive in the history of the USA
Gun Death Rates at 16500 in five months.

Each country has its issues and challenges. But as an outsider observing the USA this seems to be a country that's struggling with its own internal affairs above and beyond what other nations in the OECD are experiencing.

Is it as bad as it seems? I attach several discussion papers:
A new world is dawning, and the US will no longer lead it

Think Again: American Decline

The coronavirus is accelerating America’s decline

Patrick Cockburn: The US has faced decline before – but nothing like what’s to come

You really think this only started with Covid-19?

Unless the body of Christ gets its act together, it's going to get worse. Be assured that many other countries in the western world are struggling as well. Who would want to be in the UK right now?

I am quickly coming to the belief that God has loosened the net of protection on this and other nations. He is looking for a general turn back to Him because the people and governments have turned too far away. Oh it looks political and it is but evil is being unleashed and that's also what we are seeing. I've been praying since the beginning of the covid restrictions that we who are in Christ stay strong in Christ but this that we are seeing I believe will worsen. The second part of the outpouring of covid is not the illness but the foothold of evil in the land. The illness was never the issue, the frailty of man is to his own undoing, wise in his own eyes to his own destruction. And to make matters worse, this is not all that is to come imo. We have crossed a threshold in time and the door back is fully slammed shut. What we knew we will never see again, the corruption within that was far too deep and now on full display.. By the way, the USA is not an active player in the scriptures during the tribulation period. However this goes forward I'm with God in it. Don't walk by sight but by faith. So many are missing it, glued to the TV as the world unravels when we need to be glued to Jesus Christ, all sights on Him, all praise to Him and all glory be His. Man glorifies himself without God first in this age and now deny the faithfulness and truth of scripture in this age.

The only way back to strength and then it should not look like the past anyway, is if the peoples of the lands have an overall general turn back to God. They have strayed from Him, taken down His symbols in public places and put up demonic icons. Has anyone seen the backs of the newly minted US quarters ? Dedications to satanic temples using men with US flags? Baal worship traveling the globe with a model on display of the gates of baal ? Trash tv some commercials aren't even civil ? No prayer at home, going on two generations of people who have never set foot inside a church and wonder what it's even about and that's if if they wonder at all ! Speaking of church: false gospels, corruption, perverts leading in some, God says man doesn't lay down with man and in the end times women give up the natural use of their bodies for other women, Then the church comes along and hires them as priests, ministers and bishops. Gee, why is the world turning upside down ? Look to God and His word, the answers are all there. Not In Man. Amen

Pete I don't know what you mean by this at all.

Be assured that many other countries in the western world are struggling as well.
Yes I guess the troubles in USA are similar to whats now occurring in places like Brazil. Every nation has faced a major impact from COVID (if that's what you mean) That said many nations have done OK as well. I'll put New Zealand, South Korea and Australia as examples.

What we are not seeing in those examples is the breakdown in national unity. I'm dismayed by such widespread civil disharmony that's occurring in the USA now, along with the usual gun deaths. Impacting on all this is an unemployment rate that keeps climbing and seems higher than other OECD nations. Im sure that's really hitting hard on people there.

Who would want to be in the UK right now?

Im guessing you mean COVID and possibly BREXIT. For all that the country isn't in a state of civil unrest. I wonder what the key differences are between these OECD nations, that one nation is experiencing such internal disharmony, compared to the other.

I'm curious why so many believe that these troubles - particularly events such as a pandemic - is related to people's religious convictions?

Youve obviously got something in mind. What are you alluding to
I dont have the time to list ALL the signs of americas weakness, but I think among the top ten would be its continuous defeats in wars, the extreme income inequality and the ridiculous incarceration rate.

This stuff has been going on for years. The USA has been standing on feets of clay for decades.

I'm not really talking about the gradual decline of American influence, it's more that I've really noticed a rapid decline over the past two years - everything from relations with other countries, to internal affairs.

On the international stage, the nations of the world used to look to America for leadership. That is a position from which we have withdrawn by reneging on treaties and agreements that came about because of America showing the way. We are no longer the leaders of the free world, but are becoming paper tigers.

American disharmony is politically generated. Almost entirely. It's been growing since Ronald Reagan was president and his opposition went crazy. It's been growing since then, but took a major uptick when the second Bush was president, much more when Obama was president, and now is in hyperdrive with Trump as president. I don't see where it goes from here except civil war. It is driven by irresponsible players from both fringes of the political establishment and excludes the middle. Used to be we had a center-right party and a center-left party. Now we have a right-populist party and a left-socialist party and the middle has been vacated.

And everybody in the world seems to have a visceral reaction to what happens in America, particularly American polarized politics. Sure we have bad things going on, but the Australian judiciary vis a vis Pell isn't a pretty situation. Nor what's happening in Hong Kong. Nor are the parts of Europe falling under sharia law.

We've all had a shock with Covid-19, the Wuhan virus. But it's not a slate wiper. It will change things, but hopefully it will prepare us all for the next one, the actual slate wiper that combines the transmission abilities of a Covid with the mortality of an Ebola.

The answer may lie in your previous question.
