Christianity vs. Mormonism

So, I met someone the other day who was Mormon and wanted to help me find peace and joy.

Anyone know a lot about Mormonism and how they truly differentiate in beliefs to mainstream Christianity?

I was a Mormon for 40 years [actually born into it] until God called me out.

It is not what it appears as everything is based on their false prophet Joseph Smith and of course their One True Church claim. JS taught a lot of un-Bilblical things which they hold fast to even today, Like Jesus Christ is our spiritual brother with satan as another brother. Another facet is they teach that there is not one God but three, and many more Gods running around being Gods of other planets. And then you are supposedly literally fathered by our God in the spirit, with an unnamed Goddess Mother. I could list many more things where Mormonism differentiates from Christianity. I am sure your friend was genuine as most Mormons do not realize the deception that they are in.

Be careful if you are given their Book of Mormon who they will tell you Joseph Smith supposedly translated from God and then you are supposed to pray for it's truth. That is where they usually get most newbies to join and accept their church, while telling you their own testimony about the Church. The Power of suggestion can be so powerful in that instance.

True Peace and True Joy can only be found in the True Christ as I found from 25 years being out of Mormonism.

I had posted a prayer request the other night on a fb group and this person private msg me a bible verse then asked if he could call me so he could help me find the joy and peace that I’m looking for. I initially was thinking about it but asked what his denomination was and he said he was a Mormon missionary and so I then said no to having him call me. He had said that he believes a lot of his viewpoints and mine will be similar. I had read a bit online but am glad I came on here.

I remember reading about that God lives on a planet I believe and believing God has a physical body and that there are 3 heavens believers are sent to when they die. It seemed fishy too me but thanks for clarifying a lot of this for me

The DEBATE OTHER RELIGIONS forum that you were referred to has a small handful of Mormons there. Regular Christians start threads, Mormons try to answer. The C.F. position is that Mormons are not Christians.

So, "hie to Kolob" in that forum and, yea, ye shalt learn of Latter Day wondrous things - translating through a rock in the hat from a mythical language called Reformed Egyptian into King James English of 1769 style - unusual that the alleged "translation" allegedly occurred in 1830 - not into 1830 American English, but into King James English.

Whether Kolob is a planet or a star seems undetermined, but God lives there or near there.

Their God used to be a man.

They have a Heavenly Mother, but do not post coherently about Her.

In short, the differences are many and fundamental. Even a cursory study of that religion should show it to you right away.

hmm interesting. I haven’t spoken to this gentleman too much who had msg me. I just know from hearing about Mormons that their views were different

Various web sites that will help you.
Answering Mormons, coldcasechristianity and farm are the ones I think of. Use Google and you'll find others plus books about mormons.

If you are going to talk with Mormons do do your homework.

When you do research, you will find lots of philosophy that directly contradicts Jesus.

As I recall, they earn greater levels by the number of converts they get. They are very attractive, in that as a culture, the people are very polite, kind and generally nice people. They draw in the vulnerable because it feels nice to be part of such a community.

This is where you are most vulnerable. Based on your many postings about wanting to feel God over knowing God, you could easily be drawn into the cult. Because you are so vulnerable, I strongly suggest that you steer clear of the whole thing.

Mormons are very dedicated when it comes to converting people who are not already church goers. Everyone knows that Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons are two who specialize in going door to door.

And Mormons have a reputation for being generally friendly and pleasant anyway, even when it's not a matter of evangelizing.

The fact is, though, that the beliefs and practices of that religion are substantially different from anything we discuss here on the Christian forums--a different origin of the church, a different view of God, with a different book of Scripture, a different view of the nature of Man, unique religious practices, unique views on the subjects of clergy, sacraments, membership, and so much more.
