That if you put good energy into the world, it will come back to you triple-fold. That's what someone told me.

But you shouldn't do good things for that sole purpose right?

Or what would that be called?

Meaning doing good. Like helping someone going through a hard time, showing empathy for them.
This is what Jesus said about those who labor and follow Him:

Matthew 19: NASB

27Then Peter said to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?” 28And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name’s sake, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life. 30“But many who are first will be last; and thelast, first.

Nowhere in God's Word will you find the phrase "putting good energy into the world." Nowhere it God's Word that I know of will you find this triple blessing. Stop listening to people and start listening to God. Read His word.

Universally, nope.
But spreading God’s Works by Faith and good works? Yup.
The way it will come back is Heaven. God Bless :)

Yes but that is a New Age type expression. "You reap what you sow" is how a Christian might express that.

Yes, that sounds more familiar.

But is what is reaped during the lifetime, or after death and into the afterlife. Or both?

So what we do good or bad has some eternal value?
Yes and no.
John 14:15 NASB
“If you love Me, (Jesus) Obey my Commandments.”
If we Love God we want to do good, and good is God’s Commandments.
If we do not follow God’s commandments, yet claim to be His Child, and do BAD, you aren’t loving God properly.
So yes, it does have to do with eternal life.
You reap what you sow.
If you sow goodness by following God’s Work and take heart in it, you will receive God’s Kingdom.
Of course only Jesus is necessary for Salvation.
But to keep our faith “active” we do good works which are God’s commandments.

I think it's more like the energy expended in doing good deeds for others is it's own reward.

Well I tend to see it more about this life. Salvation is free, comes from Jesus, we cannot save our selves is the primary Christian message of the Gospel.

Saint Paul, however, in a few places urges believers to build our lives "on Christ" To have our lives reflect Jesus etc. by our deeds. It is possible for people to be "saved" from hell but to realize that they have nothing to show for their past lives. While believers who do live for Christ will have some kind of reward or token for that

1 Corinthians 3

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

12 But if any man buildeth on the foundation gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 each man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself shall prove each man's work of what sort it is.

14 If any man's work shall abide which he built thereon, he shall receive a reward.

15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as through fire.

Or what would that be called?

If you do things that benefit others based on their overall benefit, I think that's called selfish.

This would mean, if you see that there is no benefit reaped from the practice, you'd then stop.

It's kind of like when I think - hey I should teach people to be evil by encouraging bad behavior? (via doing nothing) but that's not how grace works.

God is kind to us so we'll repent, (romans 2) but is kind afterwards when most people don't repent anyway.

This is because God is kind. When we do something nice, but get all mad when it isn't appreciated, this too reveals something true about our natures - just like it reveals it about God.

So I think it might be called transaction oriented benevolence?

It will come back for sure:

Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Rev_22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

As a metaphor, if God is the source of all that is good then putting off good energy is like flowing with the current and all that you do is aided by the flow of God.

No.

Proof of this is rather easy. Jesus did a lot of good in his earthly ministry for 3 years - healing people, feeding people, teaching them to be better people, and how to better connect with God. He got crucified.

His miracles were better energy than whatever "good energy" this person was likely telling you about. Sayings like this are typical of New Age teachers, and they dip into the occult.

Sowing and reaping has been mentioned. But there's no promise of threefold return on any kind of reaping.

Yes, those who expect to be paid back in this life may well be disappointed, though every situation is different. For most Christians, I would say that Heaven will be the reward.

No. There is no cosmic principle like karma in Christianity. Christianity does teach that we reap what we sow, by which is meant that there are consequences to our actions. If I punch a stranger in the face, I am very likely to get punched back, and then police will be called, I'll be arrested and charged with assault, will have to face court and whatever outcome comes from that.

But there is no guarantee that just because you do what you ought to do--love your neighbor, feed the hungry, bless and do not curse, etc--that you will receive any kind of positive reward for your actions in this world. But then, if you are doing what you should be doing anyway thinking you will get something from it, either in this life or the next, then you aren't doing what you should be doing the way you should be doing it; it is still good that your neighbor is fed, but if your motivation stems from the selfishness of your flesh then it ceases to be of any good to you.

Instead, give without expecting anything in return. Love, even if you are hated. Be kind, even when you are treated unkind. Be merciful, even when you are not shown mercy.
