Was the Sabbath given to man at creation as a special day to worship God?

Did Adam and Eve keep each seventh-day Sabbath?

LOL! If manna were raining down on me; I would keep the law of manna.

Abraham was a Gentile.

Abraham became the first Hebrew, when he trusted on YHWH. When we believe in YHWH; we follow his instructions.

He was declared righteous before circumcision apart from the law of Moses.

(CLV) Gn 15:6
Now Abram believed on Elohim, and He reckoned it to him for righteousness

(CLV) Gn 26:5
inasmuch as your father Abraham hearkened to My voice and kept My charge, My instructions, My statutes and My laws.

(CLV) Ja 2:22
You are observing that faith worked together with his works, and by works was faith perfected.

(CLV) Ja 2:23
And fulfilled was the scripture which is saying, Now "Abraham believes God, and it is reckoned to him for righteousness," and he was called "the friend of God."

(CLV) Ja 2:24
You see that by works a man is being justified, and not by faith only.

Because keeping the law of Moses is required first before anything else.

You understand that right?

Not according to scripture.

For an outsider, a gentile to ever keep the Passover, they must first become physically circumcised.

And?

It would be useless for a Gentile to keep the Sabbath while being “uncircumcised”.

But you know that already.

Not according to scripture.

Let’s look.

Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. Genesis 2:1-3

  • God blessed the seventh day.
  • God sanctified the seventh day.

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Has the seventh day come in which God is no longer working?

  • My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”

But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”
Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. John 5:17-18

JLB
So your answer then, is yes, it was God who set the Sabbath apart(sanctified it, made it holy) from the other 6 days?

Can you show us Jesus playing basketball? The proof you're asking for is unreasonable at best. Can you show me in the OT scriptures where they ate bread and drank wine as communion? My point is this: It's easy to make an unreasonable request. Are we anti Sabbath? The scripture makes it clear that we must respect what others are persuaded towards God.
Ello Cribstyl nice to see you again dear friend. You know I just cleaned my teeth and was just about to go to bed but saw this one as I was just about to turn off the PC and call it a night. Anyhow will make this the last one for tonight (my time).
If we are under the law, the Sabbath commandment is a sign of that covenant. If there is a New Covenant, the Sabbath commandment is no longer required.
Firstly according to the scriptures no one is "under the law" unless they stand before God guilty of breaking the law...

ROMANS 3:19-20 [19],NOW WE KNOW THAT WHAT THINGS SOEVER THE LAW SAID, IT SAID TO THEM WHO ARE UNDER THE LAW: THAT EVERY MOUTH MAY BE STOPPED, AND ALL THE WORLD MAY BECOME GUILTY BEFORE GOD. [20], Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

What is your understanding of the covenants? It seems you are mixing up your "shadow laws" from the Mosiac book of the law in the old covenant *EXODUS 24:7 with God's eternal laws (10 commandments) *HEBREWS 10:1-12; COLOSSIANS 2 and EPHESIANS 2. According to the new covenant scriptures God's law (10 commandments) have the same role they always have and that is to give us the knowledge of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTEOSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172 and if we knowingly break anyone of God's 10 commandments (including God's 4th commandment) we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11; ROMANS 3:19-20. Everyone of God's 10 commandments are repeated in the new covenant and are requirements for Godly living through faith that works by love in God's Word.
Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. Rom 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
Hmm which scripture in ROMANS 14 is talking about God's 4th commandment? ROMANS 14:6 is talking about eating and not eating on days that men esteem over other days. There is no mention of the Sabbath there and it is not talking about days that God esteems over other days is it? The things that men esteem are an abomination with God *LUKE 16:15.

Perhaps I will ask you the same question as I asked your friend JBL that he refuses to answer. Where is the scripture that says God's 4th commandment has been abolished and it is no longer one of God's 10 commandments that give us a knowledge of what sin is when broken *ROMANS 3:20?

Take your time as it is time for me to rest now..:)

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word.

That’s what I thought.

You can’t answer a simple question because you don’t know the law.

This is what the law required concerning the Sabbath.

Do you follow these requirements of the law of Moses?

Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’ ” So they laid it up till morning, as Moses commanded; and it did not stink, nor were there any worms in it. Then Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field. Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none.”

Now it happened that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none. And the Lord said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws? See! For the Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” So the people rested on the seventh day. Exodus 16:23-30

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you. You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
Exodus 31:12-15

Then Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said to them, “These are the words which the Lord has commanded you to do: Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh day shall be a holy day for you, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death. You shall kindle no fire throughout your dwellings on the Sabbath day.”Exodus 35:1-3

Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. They put him under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” So, as the Lord commanded Moses, all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him with stones, and he died. Numbers 15:32-36

And on the Sabbath day two lambs in their first year, without blemish, and two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour as a grain offering, mixed with oil, with its drink offering— this is the burnt offering for every Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering with its drink offering. Numbers 28:9-10

JLB

Manna was limited and stopped at a point in time, but you already know that...so that "point" is moot.
There can be no Sacrifices because there is no Temple, but you already know that...so your "point" is moot. it is you that does not know the law...

Basketball was not invented yet...moot point. OT...bread and wine...Pesakh. You are not "under" the law because through the Spirit you should be keeping it. You are under its curse (death) if you break it and have no forgiveness...but through Yeshua we now do have remission of sin!

Was it required of Abraham?

It's like Baptism. It's an outward sign of what has taken place within. If the inward change hasn't happened; it means nothing.

Not so with the law of Moses.

It was required to be in Covenant.

The law of Moses was the dividing wall that separated the Jew from the Gentile. The uncircumcised from the children of Israel.

And when a stranger dwells with you and wants to keep the Passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as a native of the land. For no uncircumcised person shall eat it. One law shall be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you. Exodus 12:48-49

Paul said to the Corinthians...

Paul is referring to the reality or substance that the feasts pointed to.

Sin being a type of leaven, can spread throughout the whole lump.

If a person, especially a Jew wanted to keep a feast it wasn’t mandatory as the law of Moses required.

having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Colossians 2:14-17

Your "firstly" statement is a false statement. " The scriptures you posted say that "Whatever the law says, is to those who are under the law....... You're saying: (v 19)"no one is under the law (v 20) unless they are being judged by God of breaking the law."
Please don't ignore addressing this disagreement or we're done discussing these issues.

LGW, Rom 3:21 directly contradicts your statement above.

Rom 3:19Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God.
Rom 3:20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.

Christ Took Our Punishment
Rom 3:21But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses

Rom 3:22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.
Rom 3:23For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Rom 3:24 Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
Rom 3:25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,
Rom 3:26 for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.
Rom 3:27Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith.
Rom 3:28 So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law.
Rom 3:29After all, is God the God of the Jews only? Isn’t he also the God of the Gentiles? Of course he is.
Rom 3:30 There is only one God, and he makes people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles.
Rom 3:31 Well then, if we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.

The New Covenant is explained by Paul in Rom 3:21-31. Here are some facts that will cause you to ignore or contradict.
It begins with prophecies written by Moses and the prophets. (Rom 3:21) True or false?
It's about righteousness without the law. (Rom 3:21) True or False?
It's about justification by faith though the blood of Jesus (Rom 3:24,25) True or False?
Sorry, doctrines are not comprised by making jambalaya stew with God's word.
Rather than pointing to the doctrines taught by Paul, you go fishing for whatever words that appear to supports your commentary. That's foul.

What part of "another esteemeth every day alike" does not include all 7 days? So the Sabbath is included as a regarded day unto the Lord in Rom 14.
ROMANS 14:6 is talking about eating and not eating on days that men esteem over other days. There is no mention of the Sabbath there and it is not talking about days that God esteems over other days is it? The things that men esteem are an abomination with God *LUKE 16:15.
LGW, let's just say, your commentary is not accurate. I believe you have no choice but to add confusion to the word of God.
Rom 14:6 is summarizing 2 separate issues. The first issue (Rom 14:1-4) is about the Christians who eats herbs verses the Christians who have no food restrictions at all. There is a warning not to judge people by what they eat.
Rom 14:5 Begins a second issue about day or days chosen to worship God. The conclusion here is: let them make up in their own minds what day(s) to honor God.
Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

Rom 14:6 Combines both issues and say that these observances are done with intentions of giving honor unto God.
Rom 14:6
He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

Paul teaches this same lesson to the Colossians. We can see that these selfsame issues reach the same conclusion. Do not judge other by what they eat and when they worship.

Col 2:16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

What part of "another esteemeth every day alike" does not include all 7 days?

1. The part where "alike" is not in the text at all.
2. The part where Gal 4 has Paul condemning even ONE observance of a pagan holy day.
3. The part where Paul says that if someone were to "rest" and refrain from secular activity to keep the day sanctified and holy to the lord - should be met with "if he does not work - neither let him eat".

Romans 14 is only in reference to the Bible approved annual holy days of Lev 23 - where "one man observes one day above another - and another man observes them all". Which is the same thing they did in the OT because only 3 of the annual holy days were mandatory.

Matt 7 - before the cross "judge not that you be not judged" was the rule in the OT pre-cross age ... not something "new" after the cross.

Your "firstly" statement is a false statement. " The scriptures you posted say that "Whatever the law says, is to those who are under the law....... You're saying: (v 19)"no one is under the law (v 20) unless they are being judged by God of breaking the law."

alrighty then - Romans 3... one more time.

19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; 20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. ... 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

1. The part where "alike" is not in the text at all.
What bible version can we use for Rom 14:5 Brother BobRyan? None?

2. The part where Gal 4 has Paul condemning even ONE observance of a pagan holy day.
Yes, Holy days could mean pagan worship, but Sabbaths are kept primarily by Jews.

Hmmm, You're not refuting my responsed, so disputing your post will be a wasted effort.

Paul is referring to the reality or substance that the feasts pointed to.

Sin being a type of leaven, can spread throughout the whole lump.

If a person, especially a Jew wanted to keep a feast it wasn’t mandatory as the law of Moses required.

JLB

Nope...he CLEARLY says "let us keep (celebrate) the feast"...the "leaven" was sexual immorality in 5:1
