Under God, we all have the potential to do good. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Those who are called are those who allow themselves to be called, away from the atheists and agnostics and the evil in the world.

God has endowed each of us with gifts to accomplish the purpose He has in mind for each of us. When we look at others, the gifts may not be obvious at first.

Even a person who is mentally challenged has some gift. How about the gift of learning certain mundane things, and to do repetitive work? Supermarkets may hire the mentally challenged to pack bags at checkout. Who better to pack bags consistently, remembering to put the heavy things on the bottom, and to prioritize the things added according to lesser and lesser weight, consistently? Would someone who has performed well in school, have the patience to consistently pack bags using such prioritization? A smart person’s mind has the tendency to wander, particularly with regard to a mundane task. So, they may forget to prioritize, and they end up packing the heaviest things on top, making for a disgruntled customer. They are better suited to other occupations, to say the least.

There are professional athletes whom some may say are gifted. Things like hitting home rums or shooting hoops seem to come easy to them, and they are admired by many. Some of those admirers wish they could do the same. Some of them can if they work at it, but for the rest, well, they’re just not cut out for it. And there are ones who are gifted with high intelligence, working apart from the public eye but are of value to their employers or to people they’ve convinced to let them do things that would be of great financial and other constructive benefit in varying degrees for those people, including in an advisory capacity.

But for the rest, who aren’t gifted with high intelligence, God would have other purposes for them in mind. They may never make enough money to drive fancy cars and to live in mansions. They may end up working in places like meat-packing plants. You may ask, where is the reward in that, when you can’t afford more than a cheap automobile that doesn’t cost hundreds of thousands of dollars like celebrities have, or a home that’s small enough so you can’t help but run into family members when you need privacy. Where is the reward in that?

First of all, keep in mind that in accordance with Galatians 3:28 we have equal standing under Christ. Doesn’t matter if you’re a worker or a boss, or if you lead a life of servitude or grandeur, God through Lord Jesus does not play favorites solely on the basis of one’s earthly stature. Of course God will favor those who strive according to His Purpose, be it those who pack bags in supermarkets, those who are professional athletes, those who are in the professions or those who work in places like meat-packing plants.

And in line with Galatians 3:28, God is not impressed by what people have. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:19-21 not to focus on storing up riches on earth, since your true riches are in Heaven. Now for those who have attained earthly riches through gifts God gave them, God had a purpose for them. Perhaps God had in mind for them to use their riches to give to the less fortunate through things like setting up foundations or through inheritance so their beneficiaries may use the earthly riches according to God’s purpose.

But at some point, if we have done good all our lives, God will call us up to his House to dwell forever. And His house, with pastures and streams and green trees and a House with many rooms, are better than any rich estate on earth.

Those whom God looks favorably upon, whom He sees as being in line with His purpose are truly blessed according to His Grace through Jesus.

The ' all things what work together for good' isn't saying we will do good works but the lovely day, the fact you have just been fired, the sudden illness, the unexpected promotion, that mugging, you name the type of event they all work together for the good of those who are called by God.

It is the scariest verse in the bible.

I agree that it's a scary verse. But it doesn't necessarily mean that good things done by people are precluded here.

Of course God will favor those who strive according to His Purpose

That’s true. God has given me much but I’ve given a great deal in return to accomplish my purpose. The rewards are many fold. But I earned them.

through inheritance so their beneficiaries may use the earthly riches according to God’s purpose.

Enabling my descendants to fulfill their calling is very important. Through the work He’s given and philanthropic endeavors. It inspires me.

Nor does it mean that good works are being planned.
