Old Maid?!?!

UGGGH! that is all that can express my frustration at the moment! But no I will be calm about this is and get it out...lol...have you ever had a family memember give you the "So when are you going to start dating someone?" speech (if you will) and you can tell that what they are trying to say that they think if you don't start sometime soon you'll end up being an "old maid"! I know I am not yet even 19 and have never been on a date in my life (never really had an opportunity to go on one anyways) but I get the "You're next" thing from my family; aunts, uncles, cousins, and the like; being the oldest un-married, un-attached person in the family (then is my sister- 16 with a boyfriend) I don't hate it I just bothers me...and I have no idea why! there is no reason for it to! I mean when God feels I am ready for things to happen they will, right? Right!

Good grief! You're only 18! Take your time! "Old Maid" is old fashioned. I know how you feel but in a kind of different way. Everyone wants to know when we're gonna give them grandchildren.
This is your life and not theirs. Marriage is something you have to live with, not them. Besides, the last thing I would try to convince an 18 year old to do is get married. With precious few exceptions, most marriages that young don't last very long. So take your time. If you don't feel like dating anyone, then don't.
I didn't start dating until I was 19. It was a girl my friends talked me into going out with. We we're friends to begin with. It turned into a total disaster. We no longer speak to eachother.

Although this many sound mean take no offense, but you could be jealous that your younger sister is dating and you have never even been on a date!!! Hey dont worry, dating isn't that special. There will be a time for you to find everything you need. Don't rush something that is important. Let God work through you!!!!

Unfortunately, we live in a society where everybody is expected to have the same goals: finish school, get a job, get married, have children. However, that path is not for everybody, and we all have friends/relatives who are in denial about this fact. Do what you feel God is leading you to and don't let the opinion of others bother you.

don t be like my sister she is in her late forties never married and feels like a loser because of it. when i try to point out to her that our much older cousin never married she gets angry and call the cousin a loser and other bad names even though M has never done a thing to her. she has even started to go to church again--not to worship god but to meet men.!!

HeHe this reminds me of My Big Fat Greek Wedding where everyone thinks Tula will always be single and that she will never find someone, or her dad is always saying that she looks old...she needs to get married. lol I understand...and you know about the whole jealousy thing, I have a younger sister and brother who are both in relationships and I'm not jealous, but I do sometimes feel like I'm the only one without. Anywho, that's just my opinion.

Everyone seems to think people should always have a hunny... for some strange reason. Apparently, being single is no good, and even if you're not going to get married, if you don't have a girlfriend you're "uncool."

Whatever. Think of it like this - you're unhooked :D

Good thought!! that just may be the motive behind their nagging!
lol to start my day off to day when I was taking my little sister to school it SOOOO reminded me of the scene from My Big Fat Greek Wedding...it was raining cats and dogs and I have just sneezed and my sister being the goofball that she is pulls this line: "SOO...when are you going to go out and get yourself a boyfriend....(then with a mocked Greek accent) You are starting to look 'old'!" and then we both laugh because my sister knows that when I, and God, feel that I am ready for a boyfriend than I will most likely go out and get myself one....lol that kinda makes it sound like there is a store that sells boyfriends! "Yes come on down to the BoyFriend Mart! We have a super sale today" HAHA

HolyRageGal - I am 22 and also not in a rush - dating is wrong anyway - read all the threads on dating - courtship is where is it at - but that only comes after time of friendship and stuff like that - don't let anyone rush you into dating or a romantic relationship - only think about looking when you are ready to get married!!! There is loads I could say about it but I would recommend that you look at http://polynate.net/books/courtship/ or get hold of a copy of "I kissed dating goodbye" by Joshia Harris. Both give sound teaching about this!

May God bless you and direct you in the way to go, and don't rush!!!
