If Jesus died for the world why does most of scripture say the opposite?

“For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:15‬ ‭WEB‬‬

setst RE: In the New Covenant, we are called by the Gospel. To those, who hear the Gospel and come to believe in Jesus, these are the called. Those who believe in Jesus receive the promises of God.

Romans 4:16 (NIV)
16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
— John 10:25-30

setst RE: The only ones who receive eternal life are those who listen to and follow Jesus. These are the only ones who are Christ's sheep.

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
— 1 John 5:4

setst RE: The victory that overcomes the world is our faith.

To be born of God is by the Holy Spirit indwelling us giving us life. We only receive the Holy Spirit by Faith, and by walking (drinking) by the Spirit we received by faith.

John 7:37-39 (WEB) 37 Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink! 38 He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
— Ephesians 2:1-7

setst RE: We are made alive by the Spirit of Christ indwelling us. See previous Passage John 7:37-39 - only by faith are we made alive by the Spirit.

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who reside as aliens, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, who are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood: May grace and peace be yours in the fullest measure. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
— 1 Peter 1:1-5

setst RE: Peter is speaking to Christians already saved, praising God for the salvation he offers. There is no teaching here on how we are born again, how the Spirit sanctifies us.

The Scriptures teach we are born again by the Holy Spirit dwelling in us - John 7:37-39. And we only receive the Spirit when we believe.

We are sanctified by the Spirit as we faithfully walk by the Spirit in us. We are sanctified by faith, the Spirit guiding our faith to victory.

Acts 26:16-18 (WEB)
18 '...that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

— John 10:25-30

setst RE: The only ones give eternal life are those who listen to and follow Jesus. These are the only ones that are the sheep of Christ Jesus.

Christ Jesus was sent to preach the Gospel to the humble, spiritually crushed and heavy laden with sin and shame (Luke 4:18-19; Isaiah 61:1-2; Matthew 11:4-5; Matthew 11:28). These are the sheep God promised to save out of the world.

I believe His word. I don’t believe your interpretation. I refuse to live in fear because I believe He’s my Father, He’s given me to the Son, and the Spirit seals. I’m safe.

I introduced the Scriptures but did not interpret. God's Word is very clear in its teaching of the Gospel.

setst RE: The only ones who receive eternal life are those who listen to and follow Jesus. These are the only ones who are Christ's sheep.

Let’s see if that’s right.

I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again.
— John 10:14-17

Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
— John 10:25-30

Jesus knows His sheep. Hopefully we can agree on that. His Father gives Him the sheep. Hopefully we can agree on that. He will lose none that the Father gives Him. Hopefully we can agree on that. And those who don’t believe are because they aren’t His sheep. Hopefully we can agree on that. And it doesn’t say anywhere that eternal life is because the sheep listen and hear. It does say, though, that His sheep (you know, the ones given to Him by His Father) hear His voice and He gives them eternal life. You probably disagree with that, but it’s right in the text.

But I also have another post that supports this same thing in two other places. And I haven’t even posted Romans 3:10-19 yet.

So what happening is that I’m posting scripture, in context, that states how someone in the flesh acts, and is by nature. But without any scripture to show different, you just keep making the same assertion that there’s at least one good thing that the unregenerate can do.

I’m kinda at at loss right now on where to go from here.
The point in Romans 3 is that everyone is a sinner and that no one is righteous by works but by faith.

I haven't tried to prove anything else, than that you are quoting texts that doesn't show who can or cannot repent. I think you need texts that specifically talks about repentance.

If I were you I would quote verses that include the word "repentance", since that is what we are talking about.

One text I actually did quote to prove my point was:

Romans 10
8 But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART”--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, (resulting in)
unto righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, (resulting in) unto salvation.

I could. But I don’t know why. I’ve shown multiple verses from multiple places that talk about how wicked we are, that we don’t want God, and that we can’t obey. But as long as you keep throwing in a “but”, nothing will matter.

My main understanding of repentance comes from experience. If I know something is right, even if a text in the Bible could be interpreted I'm not, I first go to what I know by experience and see how it can fit scripture. If it doesn't fit scripture either I have the wrong understanding of scripture or I have the wrong understanding of my experience.

To me, it's kind of you trying to prove by texts that I can't "hear" when I experience I can.

Btw: Edited post 468

Also I've never said anyone can repent without being convicted by the Holy Spirit. Just saying regeneration comes after conviction and repentance. Isn't this the real issue here?

You want to know why I believe this? I'll be happy to share my testimony.

It does say, though, that His sheep (you know, the ones given to Him by His Father) hear His voice and He gives them eternal life. You probably disagree with that, but it’s right in the text.

As I have already referenced for you, the sheep are those:
  • God chooses.
  • God has declared in His Word that he will bring the humble justice.
  • God had prophesied to save the humble.
  • God sent Jesus through His Spirit to preach to humble.
Psalms 18:27 (WEB). . . 27 For you will save the humble, but the haughty eyes you will bring down.

Psalms 138:6 (WEB) 6 For though Yahweh is high, yet he looks after the lowly; but he knows the proud from afar.

Psalms 51:17 (WEB)
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.
O God, you will not despise a broken and contrite heart.

Isaiah 29:19 (WEB)
19 The humble also will increase their joy in Yahweh, and the poor among men will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 57:15 (WEB)
15 For the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy, says:
“I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Micah 6:8 (WEB)
8 He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

1 Corinthians 1:28-29 (WEB) 28 God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that don’t exist, that he might bring to nothing the things that exist, 29 that no flesh should boast before God.

Jesus was anointed and sent to earth to bring salvation to the humble through the Gospel

Luke 4:18-19 (WEB) 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news (Gospel) to the poor (humble). He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed, 19 and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” [Isaiah 61:1-4]

Isaiah 61:1-2 (WEB)
61 The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me, because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to those who are bound, 2 to proclaim the year of Yahweh’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn

Matthew 11:4-9 (WEB) 4 Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, [Isaiah 35:5] the dead are raised up, and the poor (humble) have good news (Gospel) preached to them. [Isaiah 61:1-4]

1 Corinthians 1:20-24 (WEB)
20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn’t know God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe.

NT Greek usage of the word “poor” carries a similar meaning to the Hebrew (Old Testament).

Strong’s Hebrew 6035: poor, afflicted, humble, meek

Lord Jesus was anointed and sent by God’s Spirit to preach the Gospel to the poor, the oppressed and afflicted, the humble, the brokenhearted, the meek, those crushed in spirit and heavy laden, to fulfill God’s many promises and prophecies to provide grace, mercy, justice and salvation for them.

Matthew 11:28 (WEB) 28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

These are the sheep that God chooses to give to the Son because they will listen to and follow Jesus.

Blessings.

I would like to hear you view what it means to be born again.

How I see it.
Being convicted by the Holy Spirit leads to a change of mind. A change of mind leads to repentance. Repentance leads to the new birth by the Holy Spirit.

Being convicted by the Holy Spirit leads to a change of mind. A change of mind leads to repentance. Repentance leads to the new birth by the Holy Spirit.

That is exactly correct. For by repentance and faith we receive the Holy Spirit. And by walking in the Spirit we possess a New Life - Born Again.

Romans 8:12-13 (WEB)
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Blessings

You want to know why I believe this? I'll be happy to share my testimony.
The problem with testimonies is that they cannot be exegeted. That’s why I try to stick with scripture.

So after all of the evidence I’ve shown that says how wicked we are, it makes sense to say this is what Jesus meant when He said we must be born again. But there’s more.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
— Ephesians 2:1-5

Here he shows us that we are as bad as the children of wrath. In fact, we are under wrath as unbelievers. But God made us alive. That’s regeneration. Nothing about believing first.

For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
— Titus 3:3-7

And again, he describes us and then shows how God saves us, and there are no works mentioned. In fact, he is clear to mention that it’s not because of deeds.

and I do sleep sometimes. ;)

I would like to hear you view what it means to be born again.

How I see it.
Being convicted by the Holy Spirit leads to a change of mind. A change of mind leads to repentance. Repentance leads to the new birth by the Holy Spirit.

Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.
— Ezekiel 36:25-27

(Born of water and Spirit)

And

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
— 2 Corinthians 5:17

That is exactly correct. For by repentance and faith we receive the Holy Spirit. And by walking in the Spirit we possess a New Life - Born Again.

Romans 8:12-13 (WEB)
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Blessings
Nothing there says that repentance precedes regeneration.

Very beautiful quotes, even though we don't agree.

The problem with testimonies is that they cannot be exegeted. That’s why I try to stick with scripture.

So after all of the evidence I’ve shown that says how wicked we are, it makes sense to say this is what Jesus meant when He said we must be born again. But there’s more.

In fact, he is clear to mention that it’s not because of deeds.

and I do sleep sometimes. ;)

Repentance is not a work or deed, it's coming to God for forgiveness.

A deed is something you do. Repentance fits that. It would be a deed of righteousness. He’s saying that there’s nothing we can do that’s worthy of salvation.

Somehow, despite evidence to the contrary, you keep finding that one thing.
