Romans 5:14. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
Paul further examines the purpose of the Law of Moses which began in chapter 3:
Romans 3:20. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Adam sinned by disobeying a direct order. Until Moses there was no codification of sin, but all died in Adam's sin.

A christian can sin, or direct their lives in such a way as to move out of step with God, and as such fall away. However it is not due to the unavailability of repentance.

As Jesus said if His servant acts like the sinner, saying "I will repent latter", He may well cut them off.

Luke 12:45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

But the sacrifice for repentance is available, while a man or woman live.

Heb 9:27-28 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many;

This sacrifice is available while the Christian lives, yet if they push God too far they may become blind to it's availability.

2Th 2:11-12 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Romans 14:19-23.
Therefore let us pursue the things for peace and the things by which one may edify another.
Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food.
All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense.
It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.
Do you have faith?
Have it to yourself before God.

Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.
But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith;
for whatever is not from faith is sin.

Believers cannot ignore the dictates of their own conscience.
If you harbor doubts as to whether or not something is appropriate
for you and do it anyway, you sin.
You cannot say that you are of faith, and saved by faith,
and continue in doubtful activities.
Paul says that under the new covenant of liberty of conscience, this is sin.

So we see two sides to the silver coin of conscience.
If we feel a conviction to act on behalf of another and ignore that conviction, we sin.
If we feel the conviction of our conscience to not be doing something, and we do it anyway, we sin.
Either way, as we disregard the leading of our conscience, we are acting in disobedience to the promised Holy Spirit. Like our brain, or the muscles of our body, if we do not use our conscience, it atrophies, or worse.

1 Timothy 4:1, 2. Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron.
Hebrews 3:7. Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts."

Hebrews 2:.
1
Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
2 For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward;
3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard.

2 Corinthians 1:12. We can say with confidence and a clear conscience that we have lived with a God-given holiness and sincerity in all our dealings.
We have depended on God’s grace, not on our own human wisdom.
That is how we have conducted ourselves before the world, and especially toward you.

1 Corinthians 8:7. However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

Romans 3:20. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

James 2:9. If you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

Can a believer plead ignorance of the Law?
If you have been born again from above and received the promise of the Holy Spirit, your conscience must convict you against such things as showing partiality, or you will sin, and transgress the Law.
If you walk in the Spirit, you are not under the Law, you are under the Lawgiver, for the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.[Of Conscience].
Grace is not a covering for ignorance.
