"This Church is the ensign on the mountain spoken of by the Old Testament prophets. It is the way, the truth, and the life. "
Marion G. Romney, Conference Report, April, 1961, p. 119

I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet. You know my daily walk and conversation. I am in the bosom of a virtuous and good people. How I do love to hear the wolves howl! When they can get rid of me, the devil will also go. For the last three years I have a record of all my acts and proceedings, for I have kept several good, faithful, and efficient clerks in constant employ: they have accompanied me everywhere, and carefully kept my history, and they have written down what I have done, where I have been, and what I have said; therefore my enemies cannot charge me with any day, time, or place, but what I have written testimony to prove my actions; and my enemies cannot prove anything against me.
Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 408-409
Jesus is truly the way, the truth, and the life.

However, it is the church that Jesus set up that teaches why Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. So the church in one aspect is the way, the truth, and the life, and this one aspect is what Bro. Romney was referring to. There are not many men in the world that knew better that Jesus is the way and the truth, and the life. So Romney would never make that mistake.

Wrong. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life". He also said, "No one comes to the Father except through me." Don't distort Jesus' words and alter their meaning.

Many have come unto Christ through His church. Many have come unto Christ through the scriptures like the one you quoted. I can quote scriptures too:

(New Testament | Ephesians 5:22 - 29)

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

True Christians are judged not only by their faith but also by their works:

(New Testament | Revelation 20:12 - 13)

12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

(Old Testament | Ecclesiastes 12:13 - 14)

13 ¶ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

I repeat... You said "The Church is the way, the truth, and the life." That is an egregious misquote of Scripture. Your bold-type emphases don't change what you said in your post.

While the church is indeed subject to Christ, its head and Christ loved the church, that doesn't change the meaning of Jesus saying "I am the way, the truth and the life". By your post above, you make a clear distinction between the church and Jesus Christ. The church is most definitely not the way, the truth and the life, and never will be.

Yes Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and we know this through His church. Jesus' apostles wrote epistles to the churches which today we have as the New Testament. Without those teachings we would not have the way, the truth, and the life. We need His church to teach us the way, the truth, and the life. Without His Church we wouldn't have the way, the truth, and the life (the scriptures) to guide us:

(New Testament | John 5:38 - 40)

8 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
39 ¶ Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life

Sorry, but there was no church when Jesus said those words. He alone is the way, the truth, and the life. No matter how you spin it, that is exactly what the the Apostle John wrote, and he was an eyewitness! Not the church, the Lord himself.

This is heresy. Jesus said that He (and He alone) is the way, the truth, and the life. Not the church, not the Bible; Jesus alone. It is very, very wrong to say that without those teachings we would not have the way, the truth, and the life. Jesus is not dependent on our understanding of who He is. He was, is, and always will be the Son of God.

We do not need His church to teach us about the way, the truth, and the life. He can, through the Holy Spirit, teach us what we should know, not some group of people.

Don't take something away from our Lord and Savior and give it to a gathering of believers and/or a book. No church or writings are the Son of God.

HeistheWay,

No, you were announcing it online for everyone to see where you attend. The LDS church also announced it on their website online. Thats sounding a trumpet to get glory from men. God says, what you do, DO IN SECRET, then you will have your reward from Him and not from men. That sure wasnt obedient, like you are telling everyone else to be.

Matthew 6.2
Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Did your forget Matthew 5:16?
