For one, there is an issue when that word (which can be applied to false gods) s used to blot out the name of our heavenly father over 7000 times. There is another issue when it is used in a way that creates confusion regarding the assembly.

Is it OK to subtract words from scripture; and add the words of your choice in your book?

It's not in mine; and when you give it thought from that perspective; I suspect that you will agree.
If you mean the way the Tetragrammaton is translated as “LORD” then no, I’m not comfortable with that. But in that verse from Ephesians, the word was kyrios from the start.

I've been uncomfortable with the ambiguity that the manipulation of these words have created since I was a teenager.

Even if we were to attribute the naming of the assembly to kyrios, (which translates to the same phonetics as another word that translates to the same phonetics which can mean Ba'al, when speaking to those who are coming to Yahshua from Paganism (That was a mouthful, Just look at the confusion that has been created.)) which doesn't really match; how would we apply that name in light of Acts 16:30?

Origin of synagogue
1125–75; Middle English synagoge < Late Latin synagōga < Greek synagōgḗ assembly, meeting, equivalent to syn- syn- + agōgḗ, noun use of feminine of agōgós (adj.) gathering, derivative of ágein to bring, lead; akin to Latin agere to drive

Definition of synagogue | Dictionary.com

Origin of ecclesia
1570–80; < Latin < Greek ekklēsía assembly, equivalent to ékklēt(os) summoned (ek- ec- + klē-, variant of kal-, stem of kaleîn to call, + -tos past participle suffix) + -ia -ia

Definition of ecclesia | Dictionary.com

(CLV) Ac 13:42
Now, at their being out, they entreated that these declarations be spoken to them on the intervening sabbath.

(CLV) Ac 13:43
Now the synagogue having broken up, many of the Jews and the reverent proselytes follow Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to remain in the grace of God.

proselyte noun

pros·e·lyte | \ ˈprä-sə-ˌlīt
Definition of proselyte

: a new convert (as to a faith or cause)

Definition of PROSELYTE

Converts. They would be the Ger Tzedek

Could it include anyone else?

The biblical term "proselyte" is an anglicization of the Koine Greek term προσήλυτος (proselytos), as used in the Septuagint (Greek Old Testament) for "stranger", i.e. a "newcomer to Israel";[1] a "sojourner in the land",[2] and in the Greek New Testament[3] for a first-century convert to Judaism, generally from Ancient Greek religion. It is a translation of the Biblical Hebrew phrase גר תושב (ger toshav).[3]

Proselyte - Wikipedia

Ahh! The Ger Toshav, the sojourner in the land.

James gave this mandate to the Ger Toshav, not from anything in scripture that we have Yahshua repeating; it comes straight from the Torah:

(CLV) Ac 15:20
but to write an epistle to them to be abstaining from ceremonial pollution with idols, and prostitution, and what is strangled, and blood.

Leviticus 17
7 No longer shall they sacrifice their sacrifices to hairy goat-demons after whom they have been prostituting. An eonian statute shall this become for them throughout their generations. 8 To them you shall say:Any man from the house of Israel or from the sojourners who sojourn in your midst who should offer an ascent offering or a sacrifice 9 and not bring it to the opening of the tent of appointment to offer it to Yahweh, that man will be cut off from his kinsmen. 10 As for any man from the house of Israel and from the sojourners sojourning in your midst who should eat any blood, I will set My face against the soul eating blood, and I will cut him off from among his people, 11 for the soul of the flesh, it is in the blood, and I Myself have assigned it to you to make a propitiatory shelter over your souls on the altar; for the blood, in the soul it makes a propitiatory shelter. 12 Therefore I say to the sons of Israel:No soul at all of you shall eat blood; nor shall the sojourner sojourning in your midst eat blood. 13 Any man from the sons of Israel and from the sojourners sojourning in your midst who hunt a game animal or a flyer which may be eaten will pour out its blood and cover it with soil, 14 for the soul of all flesh is its blood; as its soul is it. So I said to the sons of Israel:The blood of any flesh you shall not eat, for the soul of all flesh, it is its blood. Everyone eating it shall be cut off.

James qualified this mandate to the Ger Toshav that they were listening to the Torah every Sabbath in the Synagogues.

(CLV) Ac 15:21
For Moses, from ancient generations, city by city, has those who are heralding him, being read on every sabbath in the synagogues."

(CLV) Ac 18:4
Now he argued in the synagogue on every sabbath and persuaded both Jews and Greeks

"All" the "people of God" compose the "assembly".

Who are these "people of God"?

The Jews who believe in Jesus Christ and produce good fruit are members of the assembly of God.

Luke 1:16
He (John the Baptist) will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.

Luke 1:68
“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them.

Matthew 7:19
Every tree (person) that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire (of hell).

The Gentiles who live godly (holy) lives are members of the people of God/assembly aka church.

1 Corinthians 1:2
To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:

Ephesians 2:19
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household,

Jesus saves all men (and women) who renounce worldly passions and live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world and who are zealous for good deeds. These men and women are God's own people.

Titus 2:11-14
For the grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men, 12 training us to renounce irreligion and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world, 13 awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.

The unbelieving Pharisees are not members of the assembly/kingdom of God.

Matthew 21:43
“Therefore I tell you (Jews) that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people (Gentiles) who will produce its fruit.

Luke 16:14-16
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at him. 15 But he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts; for what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. 16 “The law and the prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and every one enters it violently.

The immoral Christians are not members of the kingdom of God.

James 4:4
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

1 Corinthians 5:11
But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.

If you would like to explain this in your own thread; let me know. I'd like to review your study on the subject; however, this is off topic for this thread.

Except it is you who brought up the point you call no man Rabbi or Teacher. If you were to follow this logic and take absolutely literally Christ's words that no man should be called Father then you introduce an understanding that cannot be justified if we look at the scripture as a whole. Abraham is a Father of many nations, not only that he is also a Father in faith. Paul called him the Father of us all for a good reason. This should dispel the notion that Christ was speaking absolutely literally when he was saying call no man Father. Lest we also fail to honour the command to honour our Mother and Father (we can't call our earthly fathers dad then can we? Or even acknowledge them).

But your right. It is off topic. I only bring it up to show your bad understanding of scripture. So to bring it back to the topic, the implication of this thread is all kinds of wrong. I know you don't like this fact but the New Testament was written in Greek and it also doesn't describe the Apostles purely or only gathering in synagogues. We see examples of house Churches of rich members of the Church (Col 4:15 - Give my greetings to the brothers and sisters at Laodicea and to Nympha and the church in her house.)

The inference you seem to draw is unwarranted and the distinction between Ecclesia and Synagogue in the New Testament perfectly conveys the the Idea that the two are not the same. This shouldn't be surprising since the Apostolic authors when writing the New Testament distinguished between the two in their own words in Greek.

I also find your Sacred-Namism beliefs unwarranted. It's a modern belief that doesn't seem to be represented anywhere in the New Testament or by Jews of the Time. That the New Testament authors had no problem with using Greek terms like Theos, Kyrios and others should dispel notions of Sacred Name theology by that fact alone. It is not a sin to call Christ Lord.

I came from paganism and I was blessed to meet someone who talked to me about God’s name before I even converted. I don’t think you’re wrong to want to do that. Proverbs 18:10 is truth.

You mean Acts 16:31 where it says the Lord Jesus? I really don’t know Greek but it says “kyrion” there. I wonder if the problem is with English, really. This issue wouldn’t happen with “iglesia” coming from ecclesia even though if you asked how to translate church to Spanish, even the building would be called la iglesia.

This is actually an interesting topic and I’ve been thinking about it and discussed with my husband, so thank you for that. If it really is from the name of that “goddess” I apologise for being wrong, if it’s from kyrios then I do wonder why English took that route.

More to think than to say, right?
