The Jesus Prayer and Matthew 6:7 ?

Hey everyone, this is probably a simple question but I thought since Im learning I'd ask the experts,

I'm still learning about Orthodoxy, but is the repetition of the Jesus Prayer in conflict with scripture? Referencing Matthew 6:7 here. Thanks and God bless.

It is repetitious but it isn't vain though.

What would the difference be in a vain repetition and one that isn't vain?

I would say any repetition that is not to God as we worship God (the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit ). Non Christian repetition has no place in our faith. Although I believe God considers the cry of anyone who is sincere according to the light given them.

We base the Jesus Prayer on prayer without ceasing 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Luke 18:1, Luke 18:9-14 etc.

Makes way more sense, I guess I didn't place enough emphasis on the vanity there. Thanks

I'm a bit late to the thread, but we also see repetition in Psalm 135 (136 for the Masoretic text).

we also see it in Revelation everywhere. the saints and angels repeat their prayers in heaven.
