I'm thinking about signing up on PoF. It will at least be entertaining if nothing else

I won't recommend PoF. Haha! I also remember it way years back. I think it's better to stick to an exclusive Christian dating site if you know of a good one. I'm currently taking a break but might give an online dating app one last try later on.

I'm passing up on PoF because it wanted my phone number to "verify I was a human". So no thanks. :sorry:

Might try another site if I find one that looks popular enough and not...weird. Lol

I was going to recommend Salt dating app, but I think it's only for UK... Facebook was apparently going to release a dating site or so I heard... I hate Facebook much and especially find Instagram to be shallow. Haha! I think twitter dating would be more interesting, fiery and honest

Also after investigating the Salt dating app. I've been off by their promotion and connection to the bethel church movement. I pretty much side with got questions on their take of the bethel church. Anyway, I think I'm just going to give up on online dating all together as it seems so far that all my experiences has been quite a mess.

Have you tried Christian Mingle? I’ve never used it. I think this is an area where spending a little money might make a difference in gathering genuine people.

I’ve been in communities with dating profiles and never encountered the measure of strangeness or over the top people I did in those messages. They seem to attract a certain type interspersed with normal folks. You never know what you’re getting until the first paragraph. I used to read them over coffee to start my day with a laugh.

If faith is a concern you have be in a place where you can see their opinions. A lot of people tick that box. But you won’t know what it means without observation and interaction. Both are difficult on dating sites where decisions are based on other factors. A Christian forum or denomination specific sites may be better.

No, I haven't tried Christian Mingle. But now that you mention it, I might do. I think there are some positives to online dating. For example, like getting to know what girls in a general way think or what they are looking for in a man. You're right that it can be difficult to really know about someone's faith based on their profile, hence why I am considering giving up on online dating. Anyway, the least I can do is try and trust God and commit all my ways into His hand.

Generalities can be misleading. We value different things and the measure of importance isn’t identical. The only way to know is by interacting with the person. There may be common denominators. But the nuances can tip the scale in another direction.

You're right that it can be difficult to really know about someone's faith based on their profile, hence why I am considering giving up on online dating.

It can become a crutch and discourage some from looking outside this medium or attribute too much trust and familiarity to someone they’ve never met. You need to experience them in person. Oftentimes emotions move quicker than meetings and disappointment follows.

I would leave it in God’s hands and remain openminded on the avenue you’ll use to meet her. I used to tell my girls to attend cultural events or gallery showings. There were always singles in the midst.

So I'm curious. I've read GotQuestions' pages a little, and it's clear they are cessationists.
Do you also hold to the view that the 'sign' gifts are no longer applicable to the church today?

Thanks for your advice Bella. You do have much wisdom and insight. I'm on Christian Mingle now, and I've committed my use of it into the Lord's hand :)

The only sign that really matters is that of Jonah in the belly of the whale for the three days :)

It is said that whatever God can create, Satan can counterfeit. And the gift of tongue is the one gift that can be easily counterfeited. We cannot communicate biblical truth through meaningless sound. A language without a meaning is pointless. It is the meaning that makes a language to be a language. To be sure, when the apostles spoke in tongues in the day of Pentecost (found in Acts 2), they spoke languages and not gibberish. To be sure, the apostles did not all understand what they themselves were saying, but the millions of foreigners who were gathered together on that day from all over the world (and did not understand Hebrew or Aramaic) understood exactly what the apostles were saying. The apostles were preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, proclaiming the resurrection in these foreign languages, so that these foreigners would take the gospel back to their homeland and preach it and proclaim it. That gift of language was given by the Holy Spirit of God so that the gospel may spread through these millions of visitors by them taking the gospel they’ve heard back to their countries. Anyway, I have written on this subject, so please do feel free to read my blog to understand more of my take.

Greater is the Gift of Prophesying
I read your blog; especially your About page. I just wanted to get a better understanding of who you said you are before getting into what you believe.
There's nothing I read that I disagree with. You seem like a sensible person.
So I would just encourage you to not throw away the baby with the bath water.
In Christianity, we don't judge a doctrine or philosophy by the abuse of it; we judge it according to the truth. I don't know what your issue is with Bethel in Redding. But what I said applies to them too.

Thank you for the compliment. You’ve done the right thing. Are you active in your community?

I’ve been craving British culture and signed up for MarqueeTV. I enjoy Acorn, BBC, and Britbox. I’m hoping things will be sorted out to permit me to travel there next year.

As for salvatiom, you're correct. But Paul said to earnestly seek spiritual gifts.
So if a person wants to limit themselves just to being born-again that's their prerogative. But I'd echo what the writer of Hebrews said: He's persuaded better things of us and things that ACCOMPANY salvation.

Thanks for your feedback. The Bethel church movement is a pretty dangerous one in my view atleast. Have a read through this thread I started a while back then you might start to understand better. Also watch this clip. Maybe just the first 10 minutes alone... I'm not looking for someone like me theological wise, but I rather not go out with people who say they can predict the future and want to get into it in the name of God. I just hope to meet someone who truly loves God and is genuine about if

Should we stop listening to the likes of Bethel, Hillsong and Elevation music?

Well, we have more in Christ that unites us rather than what divides. That's why I asked about your view on 'charismatic' gifts from the start. A lot of people think prophecy is just correction from what you get from a Pastor or any preacher but I believe its more than that. I literally think it also has to do with seeing or hearing what's in the future (by the Holy Spirit) and bringing those things in the present for the edification of the believer. We can disagree on that and still be brothers in the Lord. Cause what it ultimately comes down to is our mutual faith in the gospel.

You're welcome... I am quite active in my community and church in general, but since moving to a new city for work 6 months ago, I'm trying to start all over again...

Haha! I'm told the Americans especially love the British accent. Cool, I can recommend a few places to visit to really experience the British culture. Scotland is right up there, Yorkshire, Snowdonia, Wales, Yorkshire, Cornwall etc... I'm not British by birth but I've spent more than half of my life here.... I can recommend some of my favourite British sitcom too like "keeping up appearances," "The IT crowd," "Not going Out"
