Hebrews 1 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)
God Has Spoken Through His Son
1 In the past God spoke to our people through the prophets. He spoke to them many times and in many different ways. 2 And now in these last days, God has spoken to us again through his Son.
My position is all gifts are for today Eph 4.
The point purpose of this thread is to discuss how prophecy plays out today. Based on "in these days, God has spoken to us again through his Son." which puts an end to what is known as "progressive revealation".
Which would raise the questions of what types of prophecy are vaid for today? That does not add to Scriptures?
"
Progressive revelation is the teaching that God has revealed Himself and His will through the Scriptures with an increasing clarity as more and more of the Scriptures were written. In other words, the later the writing the more information is given. Therefore, God reveals knowledge in a progressive and increasing manner throughout the Bible from the earliest time to later time. This makes perfect sense since we know that not everything God revealed to us was revealed right away.
This does not mean that earlier sections of Scripture are of inferior quality or are not as inspired as latter revelations."
What is progressive revelation and is it scriptural? | CARM.org
"During the second century, the heretic Marcion questioned the church’s received canon of Scripture. Marcion belonged to the Gnostic movement, which among other things taught that the God revealed in the Old Testament, Yahweh, is different from the God revealed in the New Testament, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In so doing, Marcion and the other Gnostics set the new covenant Scriptures against the old covenant Scriptures such that the New Testament contradicted the Old Testament."
Progressive Revelation
"
The things that God revealed to humanity were not all given at once. His revelation was given in stages. This is known as progressive revelation. The Apostle Paul wrote.
Now to the One who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but is now disclosed, and through the prophetic writings is made known to all the Gentiles, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith (
Romans 16:24,
25)."

"22. Great indeed, and all-powerful in gifts, and wonderful, is the
Holy Ghost. Consider, how many of you are now sitting here, how many
souls of us are present. He is working suitably for each, and being present in the midst, beholds the temper of each, beholds also his reasoning and his
conscience, and what we say, and think, and
believe. Great indeed is what I have now said, and yet is it small. For consider, I
pray, with mind enlightened by Him, how many
Christians there are in all this diocese, and how many in the whole province of Palestine, and carry forward your
mind from this province, to the whole Roman Empire; and after this, consider the whole world; races of
Persians, and nations of Indians, Garbs and Sarmatians, Gauls and Spaniards, and Moors, Libyans and
Ethiopians, and the rest for whom we have no names; for of many of the nations not even the names have reached us. Consider, I
pray, of each nation, Bishops,
Presbyters, Deacons, Solitaries, Virgins, and
laity besides; and then behold their great Protector, and the Dispenser of their gifts;— how throughout the world He gives to one
chastity, to another perpetual
virginity, to another almsgiving, to another
voluntary poverty, to another power of repelling hostile spirits. And as the light, with one touch of its radiance sheds brightness on all things, so also the
Holy Ghost enlightens those who have eyes; for if any from blindness is not vouchsafed His
grace, let him not blame the
Spirit, but his own unbelief."
