One in tiawan (sp) that went in the brain and kils fast, no vaccine for it. Plus compare to the other things we have COVID is not that deadly.
That's the comparison I'm trying to make -- what diseases are you talking about?

I don't know the name of the disease but the Scientists I was watching on a documentary about the movie Contagion said that they were thankful they stopped the virus in Taiwan because it was much more deadly than anything they had seen. Even the flu has no vaccine, the flu shot is not a vaccine just a shot from last years flu you can still get the flu and die from it after getting the shot.

There is no reason we have to be shut up like criminals in our homes. We can be smart and not touch our face, wash our hands, and wear mask. The government is not going to save us from the virus, as we learned how not to get the Spanish flu, the Swine flu, etc we can learn here too. Really I can't stand this no more and am at my breaking point I want my liberty and freedom back

Most all places in the U.S. with stay at home orders allow people to go outside for exercise/fresh air, if you merely keep some distance from others, no closer than 6 feet typically. (of course if you are coughing or sneezing, everyone wants you to stay at home, but few of us are now)

So you can go out to exercise following local guidelines -- keep that easy to keep 6 ft distance. :) You don't need a dog. You can walk just like others.

Is there any good news? Please refrain from blaming anyone. Thank you.
Compared to the deaths the US sustains annually due to other illnesses we are looking pretty good...but deaths are never good. One big question remains and that is how will everyone fare with the new economic conditions. I'm hearing poor economic conditions are responsible for thousands of suicides and many more due to poverty related illnesses. I pray for the best, but fear rough times ahead for awhile. May God show us mercy and great kindness and grace.

There is hope. God calls sinners to repent. Corporations are developing treatments, drugs and vaccines. People will develop immunity. China is open for business. South Korean factories are open. They overcame the epidemic; others may do the same.

A third of the world has some sort of quarantine or curfew regulations in place. Unemployment is soaring. Supply chains are disrupted. People are sick in hospital beds and dying. Bills keep coming. There will be more suffering ahead.

The U.S. private enterprise is most likely going to save the world of this virus because of our pharma and biotech industry. Just like the U.S. military, our pharma and biotech industries are the biggest and best in the world. Sure other nations help, and assist and at times do have discoveries, but America does lead in drug discovery with a 43.7% rate of all new molecular entities according to US Pharmaceutical Innovation in an International Context It is American free enterprise and market pricing, that provides these companies with enough profits to perform a greater quantity of research than other nations who often price fix or infringe on patents. An example is Remdesivir an anti-viral that already has shown promise from a California company in beating back COVID-19. China has already copied it and they have said they reserve the right not to pay patent fees. Chinese firm copies Gilead's remdesivir, the most promising drug against the new coronavirus See also: ICYMI: How Other Countries Freeload on U.S. Drug Research -WSJ | BIO

There may never be a vaccine. There are many deadly diseases deadlier than this that have no vaccine. We have to be careful like no touching our face, wash hands often then, face mask (I am going to wear a clown mask :D ) and enjoy life.
I wore a mask to the store for the first time the other day. Miserable... I used a bandana folded over twice and it kept sliding off the end of my nose. I probably touched my face more just fixing my mask. In addition to that, I realized you can't wear glasses with them because your breath fogs up the lenses. I can wear a real mask, but I'm super self-conscious so I was looking for something a little more subtle. Oh, well.

I have enjoyed seeing how people have improvised and some changes have been kind of fun. I mean, never in my wildest dreams would i have thought I could basically dress as a bandit to go buy groceries and not get arrested!! ^_^ It's been fun to see communities pull together and find ways to stay connected (probably more connected than before, ironically). This is such a unique time in history - kind of a throwback to old days in some respects but at the same time using the newest technology.

Yet, underneath the novelty of it all there are occasional reminders that things are not all good. On my way to the store I passed a vehicle that had "Emergency Oxygen" on the side. Not sure where they were going, but it is a sobering thing.

Sure their is. Despite everything the world does to stop it. Wars, plagues, chaos and tumult. The influence of the invisible kingdom of God’s continues to grow in the world. As evidenced not just by the numbers of people accepting Christ. But also evidenced by the fruit of the ever growing free world and prosperity. In other words. The living water that comes from heaven’s throne is slowly but surely healing the nations.

As expected; the nation is completely unprepared for what comes next - essentially the (first?) collapse of the American experiment.

It wouldn't matter who is in office; the figurheads are there to be an object to project frustrations into, or to represent what type of people allegedly do it right. Since people judge on appearances and what they are told to think, even what we think is legitimate argument is something manufactured we respond to. This way, no one will be equipped by the time collapse happens.

This is par for the course for an "experiment" that wants to become an empire: the strength of an empire is how well it can come back from collapse. America can't even confront its own treatment of its low-tier citizens, so the comrodarie and culture needed to rebuild a nation is not there for America. When it falls, it will be unrecognizable - it will come out of the embers repeating every mistake made in the "world" before ad infinitum...

All in all, we are doing EVERYTHING correct to get to the above situation... good job?

I know what you mean by glasses, I was wearing mine, but a inch further down my nose so that my breath could go past it without fogging.

I wonder how much that is offset by those that look at religion as a joke as more and more religious people die from churchse and such.

New York -- the denest city with the most imported cases and biggest outbreak, that was the U.S. epicenter, has very competently managed the crisis with great innovation and effort, with very good management from Govenor Cuomo. And New York has gotten through the worst peak, though daily deaths are still quite high, and were recently revised sharply upward as they have just begun to count about 300 per day of deaths they had been missing (and there are more also no doubt that haven't been counted).

New York has shown we can do it.

While many other regions are still approaching their own peak times, but we've shown we can do this, as well as can be done at this point after the lengthy delays in February and March getting started.

It looks like we can hold the deaths in a neighborhood like 100,000 or less (even perhaps under 70,000 (remembering the difficulty in accounting for all the deaths that weren't diagnosed but look to have been from this virus)).

We could have this good outcome if we don't have new large outbreaks that are allowed to build.

Another great piece of news from a while back: the very quick test (5 to 13 minutes!) machine developed by Abbott lab is now in use in many places (though still limited in many places by lack of testing reagent cartridges the machines use). Therefore it is possible we could choose as a nation to buy more of these quick test machines and put them to work in more places in a big way (with large guaranteed contracts for instance), which would help a lot in tracking down new infection better, saving more lives.

The good news is that this kind of big expansion of rapid testing has become a possible thing we could do, if we choose to do.

So it's possible to transition to a good situation like South Korea -- where people can work, and widespread testing and contact tracing keeps the general population safe to a large degree (far better than we have had).

Our stay at home effort that has slowed the virus greatly (where people followed it), and these new technologies, make it possible for the U.S. to become successful like South Korea.

That's great news -- that it is possible to get to that better situation.

Well, I'm not sure about that opening statement... But New York City, at least, didn't actually respond very fast in the beginning and that's partly why it became the epicenter. Chicago is also a very dense city, yet is has had maybe 20,000 cases so far. My state had maybe ten cases and we were already shutting down schools in neighboring counties where there were no cases. New York, on the other hand, still had schools open even while 1,000 people were in quarantine. In addition, there were confirmed cases in Seattle, California and Chicago at least a week before the first case in New York was announced so New York wasn't the guinea pig. It was because of New York's ego that it spread into neighboring states. We had to shut down our border with New York because New Yorkers continued traveling through our state even when cases were skyrocketing exponentially there (admittedly some ex-pat New Yorkers also continue to try to go back and visit family so they're part of the problem).

Currently New York has had 223,691 confirmed cases so far and Pennsylvania has had 28,314 even though they share a long border and have a city of 1.5 million only 95 miles from NYC (and New Jersey bordering it, too) Not to say their response has been perfect, either, but there are seven times fewer cases and 1,143 cases per 100,000 people versus 221.

So it's good to be positive and great if the numbers have plateaued. And the innovation is exciting to see. But I just don't see New York as the hero... It's as bad as what China is doing - trying to make money of the problem they created by selling us KN95 face masks (which may not even be up to health standards). Cuomo could have done worse, but he is far from a hero as far as I can tell.

I feel like there is propaganda machine supporting Cuomo right now. He's probably hoping to run for president next election. ^_^
