Trump's False Claims about Pelosi and Chinatown
  • Trump falsely tweeted that “Crazy Nancy Pelosi” had deleted a video from Twitter of her visit to Chinatown. “She wanted everyone to pack into Chinatown long after I closed the BORDER TO CHINA,” Trump said. But there is no record such a video was ever posted on Twitter by Pelosi.
  • At an April 13 coronavirus briefing, Trump falsely claimed that during her visit Pelosi said, “‘Let’s all have the big parade — Chinatown parade.'” Pelosi didn’t say that. In fact, that parade had taken place on Feb. 8, more than two weeks before Pelosi went to Chinatown.
  • At a coronavirus briefing on April 15, Trump exaggerated when he said Pelosi “was trying to have, in San Francisco, parties in Chinatown, because she thought it would be great.” Pelosi didn’t mention parties during her visit, although she urged people to come to Chinatown to shop and eat.
  • Trump also falsely said Pelosi visited Chinatown “to show that this thing doesn’t exist,” referring to the novel coronavirus. Pelosi never suggested that it didn’t exist. She stressed the need for “prevention, prevention, prevention” — urging people to be “concerned and vigilant,” but not “afraid.”

“It’s exciting to be here, especially at this time, to be able to be unified with our community,” Pelosi said on Feb. 24. “We want to be vigilant about what is out there in other places. We want to be careful about how we deal with it, but we do want to say to people ‘Come to Chinatown, here we are — we're, again, careful, safe — and come join us.'”

And, was trump banning going to stores or such at the time? I'm still waiting for a reason to care about what pelosi said that isn't racist.

did I miss where that was posted on Speaker Pelosi's twitter page? Because the point wasn't "The video doesn't exist" which is apparently what you want the thread to be about, the point was "She posted it and then took it down.".

If she took it down it means it is no longer there. If it is no longer there no one can confirm it was there. This is the reason people delete things from their Twitter feed.

so obviously President Trump saying "it was there but she took it down" has to be considered un-proven at best or simply false. Thanks for (mostly) proving the OP's point.

The problem is “fact check” tries so hard to prove something false when something true is wrapped in political rhetoric.

Isn't there a simple solution to this? Can President Trump/his supporters prove the claim he made is true? If they can, please do so. If they can't, than please stop pretending "it's the fact-checkers fault!" that what he says is considered false.

Who fact checks fact check org? Obviously the false claims of false claims the poor OP was innocently repeating needed a bit of fact checking.
That’s the rub. Most “fact checking” outlets are partisan.

I wonder how they handle Joe’s daily quarantine bunker briefs.

Pelosi doesn't do much for me. Trump should ignore her IMO. There are plenty of Democrats out there that talk sense, and he should stick with them.

It took her until Feb 25 of this year to mention anything about the virus, and the taskforce was formed on Jan 27 - and Declared the coronavirus a public health emergency on the 31. Plenty of other things happened prior - anyone can look up the timeline.

Yet, she did encourage people to come out to enjoy the celebrations in Chinatown on 2/24 - which under normal circumstances would be perfectly fine - after the emergency was called. For someone who is accusing others of not taking things serious enough - early enough? All she needs to do is check her own timeline that is published - twitter, etc - and she doesn't really have to much leeway to talk. Yet, she will and people will believe her.

This is another side of politics that I hate especially under the circumstance of this emergency.

Trump’s False Claims about Pelosi and Chinatown

China

World Health Organization

President Obama

Nancy Pelosi

Democratic Governors

Trump's false claims about Nancy Pelosi and Chinatown are all part of a larger pattern - the systematic introduction of diversions to deflect the public's attention away from this President's management/mismanagement of the nation's affairs!

By the time his claims about Pelosi have run their course, Trump will have introduced 2 more outrageous tweets or accusations to replace it and the process will start all over again!

No, it's false/unproven because he can't prove it.

...have to confess...I never really trusted that Mustard guy...always fingering that candlestick looking at the back of people's heads...always gave me the creeps...
