trump ignored and downplayed the problem for weeks after it became apparent internally that there was a problem. While the Chinese travel ban was good at slowing down the spread, it didn't stop it. By February when he instituted the ban, the virus was already here and spreading like wildfire.

Fauci is now saying that had Trump listened to the medical experts earlier he could've saved more lives.

Fauci was telling people on February 29th that there was nothing to worry about and it posed no threat to the US public at large.

But that's not the narrative that suits him -- Fauci disputes the narrative with facts, clearly he's not loyal enough to stay... no matter how idiotic it would be to fire him now.

Yeah it seems Fauci is just saying hindsight is 20/20.

It is simply that until we experienced community spread we couldn't predict it's occurrence or how widespread it might be.

The day after the confirmation of the first case of human to human transmission within the United States Trump implemented a travel ban coming from China unless the individuals were American Citizens or those who previously held Green Cards (from my understanding), with increased screening at the 5 major airports that regularly had the most flights coming from China to detect illness upon entry.

But even in late February doctors like Fauci were thinking the situation reasonably contained and able to continue to be contained...

Can we say hindsight is 20/20? Of course... even the left thought the travel ban was unnecessary due to their belief that the socioeconomic issues would have a greater impact on the U.S. than the virus itself.

And so did the WHO...

they all preferred free travel to and from China in the middle of the pandemic, thinking the virus to be easily containable and the socioeconomic issues more of a danger to us.

Sitting around saying well we should have done better or done this or that is neither here nor there though, makes no difference now, except to look at how we may better deal with the next pandemic.

I don't see where Fauci was dishonest... like anyone else in public health you have to weigh the socioeconomic with the risk to public health.

Ever seen the movie Dante's Peak?

Same issues, if you jump the gun and it's not serious, you risk greater socioeconomic damage than the threat itself, if you dont jump the gun you risk lives.

So you try to make certain of the correct actions to be taken before you take them, and that takes time to ascertain.

The problem in such situations is that every good failure needs a fall guy, and Fauci may be it for this one.

I don't think it's right though, as I don't think this is a failure myself, if anything I think we are overreacting even now... but that's my opinion which is worthless.

The left wants to hang this around someone's neck so they blow it all out of proportion because they just stand against Trump and it's his neck they want to try and hang..

Trump feels in this situation he needs a better fall guy than him so may hang it around Fauci's neck since Fauci is the medical professional he's been listening to after all...

But the truth is it's no one's fault, but perhaps where this started to begin with as they had real information far sooner than we did... but of course that's not economically viable according to the left as they appear to be in a love affair with the communist state, and they just want Trump gone so Trumps their fall guy.

But we really dont need a fall guy, we need to be able to face reality, and the reality is sometimes stuff happens and politicizing everything is just silly. I don't expect people in government to have a window into the future... I just expect them to do their best with what information they have, and I don't think anyone could ask for more than was done.
