No U.S. Catholic Bishop has been associated more closely with religious liberty than Archbishop William Lori and he has a message for Catholics who think the current suspension of the sacraments due to the COVID-19 pandemic is a violation of religious liberty: It’s not- and to argue otherwise puts lives at risk.

I am not going to engage in debate, but I am curious to know if you really think that someone giving their opinion about a subject puts lives at risk?

Most American Christians have no idea what religious liberty actually is. We are privileged to the point that we feel our rights are being attacked at the drop of a hat.

If individual priests of a church decide to cancel Mass I don't necessarily think that those priests want to harm religious liberty. I do question when the government however suspends the Masses. I just don't know the modus operandi of the government when it does these sorts of things. If it is TRULY meant to be temporary on the part of the government, then that's one thing.

When the bishop in the article said "No one right is utterly absolute, that includes religious freedom," I could not help but cringe at that one.

In Italy they've arrested priests who have administered the sacraments and held public mass with a reduced number of people attending.
Is it really acceptable to treat priests like that?

Im only airing some concerns regarding this issue at hand. Im in favor of public mass WITHOUT OBLIGATION on Easter day.

One day...how much damage could it cause anyway? I repeat, ONE day...?

Im as much in favor of preventing this virus from spreading as any other person, but it comes of as a very hard pill to swallow. You know the pill that says we are prohibited from attending easter mass for the first time since Constantin.
Even during the black plague Easter mass was said in public...

I agree. I do disagree with the good Bishop, I do believe all our rights are almost gone and religious liberty is lost right now.

I quite remember reading about this and the black plague was far, far worse than this with almost 70 percent of Europe wiped out.

This Easter, I can go to Walmart, The Home Depot, and the Grocery Store, but not Mass.

If this doesn't strike you as odd, I dont know what else to say.

We need more priests like this

I'm not sure it's a religious liberty argument (yet). I have to say though, what is absurd is how many bishops around the US were so quick on the trigger with shutting down Masses and the other Sacraments. Many bishops did so before there were ever even any stay-at-home orders. What does that tell you? The virus starts spreading and before the government has even laid out a strategy diocese start shutting down the Mass. I find that suspect.

And now you have bishops, I know there's one in Texas, who has even shutdown confessions, baptisms and extreme unction. So even in life threatening situations... a COVID patient on their deathbed, or a dying newborn baby, according to the bishop nothing should be done. Thankfully there are priests out there who are actually faithful to their vocations and responding to these needs anyway. God bless them.

It does strike me as very odd, I truly believe it is a work of Satan to stop Churches

Yay Archbishop Lori!
Don't yay too soon!

"According to the infamous list of "gay friendly parishes" published by New Ways Ministry (NWM) – the Consumer Reports of "homo-catholicism" – the Archdiocese of Baltimore is comfortably positioned in the LEAD when it comes to parish-based gay activism in the Mid-Atlantic region, with LEAD being an acronym for "LGBT Educating and Affirming Diversity.""
