It is easy to pay tithes to a church where there is a feeling the pastor is doing his job and is committed in doing what he does for the good of the church.
Aren't all Christians doing their job in the same frame of mind? Even if washing dishes showing their sanctification? How about those who minster for free?

I would agree that washing dishes can be done showing ones sanctification. My grandmother would work the school cafeteria, wash clothes, and fix wonderful meals for her family, in which she ministered for free.

One advantage my grandmother had was that she kept her motives pure all of her life. I believe anyone who has attended a large church... With pastor, deacons, and ministry boards..... Knows what it means to have motives go bad. The Apostle Paul said it just takes a little leaven to affect the whole, saying that the glorying was not good. And the Pharisees were ate up with bad motivation.

Our church board thought replacing him would be easy. They have been through many pastors since and the church has done poorly.

Hiring the unemployed gets the results of hiring people who are unemployed
for various reasons. Hiring quality people from other positions is a lot of work.

I can't really say since firstly, I haven't met him in person; secondly (while undoubtedly from my first impression he's such a good guy) we don't know his motives behind. In worst case he might be "acting" all along or bragging everything out of vanity or prestige at church. In this case (hope it doesn't turn out being true)he would be far from sanctified at all.

Also there isn't a "uniform" model of sanctification which can be very different regarding to the person's background, age and occupation.

In old Wesleyan times the sanctification was born in the character. If it wasn't in the character they would tell you, as they were often in revival, to come back tomorrow night, and smile a little as they said it. To illustrate the old Wesleyan times, in which my pastor was an example, I will use the following....

It is important, that if someone claims sanctification, that you have the ability to peer within the heart and find good things. My old pastor was a good example of sanctification....

1. Very disciplined guy - Up at 6AM every morning
2. Rejoiced in what he called being a Pentecostal Holiness country preacher
3. Revivals - At least one every two months - All with unique and good evangelists
4. Would let the Holy Spirit have his way in service
5. Take time to pray for the sick at church and in the hospitals. Carried a bottle of anointing oil with him
6. Was a friendly guy and would come visit you
7. Loved God and very Christlike.
8. A great, loving, and supportive family man as well
9. No allegations against the guy the 30 years he was with us

Good behavior, discipline, and a good reputation are great. However, we are sanctified not because of how we behave or what others believe about us. We are sanctified because of who we are in Christ.

"And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified." Acts 20:32

"to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me." Acts 26:18

"To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours..." 1 Corinthians 1:2

"And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Corinthians 6:11

"For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers ..." Hebrews 2:11

"And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." Hebrews 10:10

"For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified." Hebrews 10:14

"How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?" Hebrews 10:29
