Thanks musicalpilgrim and Quietbloke for celebrating my birthday with me!
The cake was fab - the only problem is that there is too much of it and I'm going to have to save some! I'm sure there will be more eaten tomorrow!
I haven't watched the Grand National, just some Hitchcock films this evening. I love his films - I remember seeing North by NorthWest with a friend at the Theatre Royal in Bath a couple of years ago - an outstanding production!
Hope you had a great weekend - the weather's been really good. Tomorrow is Palm Sunday and as there's no church, I'm going to watch a service on the internet. The church where I attended when I was younger have put up a service for Stations of the Cross. I remember going every Good Friday and then having hot cross buns in the church hall. A lot of what I learned and remembered about the story of Jesus came from attending this service and I always found it very moving. If it's a nice day, I might sit out on the balcony for lunch.

I am really enjoying these online services - it's great to see how other churches worship. One of my friends who is a Minister said when he posted his sermon, he got over 2,000 views - much higher than the numbers that would ordinarily attend his church.

Prayers for Boris as he goes into hospital, that the tests will go well and that he will make a full recovery from coronavirus.

I am tired but can't sleep.

Dear Father bless and heal Boris, our Prime minister.
I pray for my daughter who is working so hard at home.
I pray for Peter who is suffering burns from the radiotherapy.

Dear Father, that we may know the strength of your presence with us tonight in Jesus Christ.
You are our refuge and strength.
You help us in our times of trouble.

Today has been my day off work.
I did my daily exercise along the canal. I walked past my local church which is currently closed for public services. It is the first time in my life where I have seen doors to our churches closed during Holy Week and it feels strange and unsettling.
This afternoon, I watched a short Maundy Thursday service online and began to ponder on some of the feelings that would have been shared by Jesus and His disciples during the last supper. Jesus' feeling of being betrayed by one of the twelve. The disciples trying to make sense of what was happening, their feeling of sadness.
Tonight I had my housegroup meeting online using a video conferencing app. It was nice to see each other again, face to face, enjoy fellowship and support each other in prayer. It is a blessing living in a time where technology means we can still stay connected, even though we are apart. We will be meeting online again in a couple of weeks.
This evening, my church has put up a live video feed of the Blessed Sacrament where people can spend some time in silent prayer, reflecting on Jesus' suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane.
May we all draw close to Jesus this evening, remembering that He went through all of this for us because He loved us.

Yes, it is a strange Easter with the pandemic. But how wonderful to see so much on line as the Church spreads out in all directions. New technology is so good and helpful.
The neighbours actually came out this evening to clap and cheer the NHS and care workers. Far better than last week, when we were on our own.
