When I was a new Christian my pastor used to call us younger guys on Sunday nights to collect the offering ( it’s an old story lol). I would be naval gazing. because I was scared he would call on me. That night he called on the guy next to me , I thought he gave a good prayer. My Pastor looked up and said “Boy when I call on you to pray , you pray for me so I can preach God’s word , y’all got that.” This was followed by 6 yes sirs in unison.

As I was passing the plate it struck me that was good info ! If I was called on I would know what to pray for.

Jesus was asked “Lord teach us to pray”

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
10Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread,
12and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Can a prayer given to us by Jesus be out of his will ? Of course not !

When I’m stuck I use this prayer. I personalize it

Our Father in heaven Holy be your name now and forever

Your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven

Give me this days needs

Forgive me my sins

As I forgive those who have wrong me

Don’t lead me in a time of testing

Deliver me from the evil one

In Jesus name Amen

I then continue with prayers for family, friends, etc.

How about you do you use this prayer ?

Yes, all the time as well as Psalm 23. I've been saying these 2 prayers ever since I can remember.

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Footnotes
  1. Psalm 23:4 Or the valley of the shadow of death

Yes, you should personalize it, but not much, cause it is literally how the Lord said you should pray.

I simply add my immediate family to the parts where He said to say "us", e.g., 'give me, and my family, this day, our daily bread', etc.

I then finish the prayer, and then commence a new prayer, in my own words, dealing specifically with the details of my life.

I also converse, throughout the day, in my heart with Him, and constantly give Him thanks for everything, even when I stop for a drink of water, I thank Him for it, saying, "Thank you God, for this water, in Yehoshua's mighty name, amen.

I've been doing it for so long, that I cannot eat anything without first thanking Him--it is just a habit now.
