And the problem is that Covid-19 does not discriminate. It will mess up the food supply given a chance. That is why the governor of Iowa is correct in limiting how people can meet.

I grew up on a farm in Minnesota. I know the shortcomings in the understandings of urban people towards farmers. But farmers have to realize that sometimes others are looking out for them.
And what the deal is.....the china virus has not messed with the food chain......But those who "think" they are looking out for us ARE.

yeah good thing no one is asymptomatic or able to spread the disease while that...

Can CoVID-19 be caught from a person who has no symptoms?

The main way the disease spreads is through respiratory droplets expelled by someone who is coughing. The risk of catching COVID-19 from someone with no symptoms at all is very low. However, many people with COVID-19 experience only mild symptoms. This is particularly true at the early stages of the disease. It is therefore possible to catch COVID-19 from someone who has, for example, just a mild cough and does not feel ill. WHO is assessing ongoing research on the period of transmission of COVID-19 and will continue to share updated findings.

Well, I live in Michigan. It is the Mid-West and currently #3 in both cases and deaths.
So? Scare the farmers into not going and getting their feed and let critters die and start starving Americans?

And don't go to the grocery store. Let some kid cough and sneeze all over everything they loaded for you while you sat scared in your car outside.

I really don't care about the the order or change of order. Or any "language."

You get people scared enough and start messing with the Midwest........the food supply and chain is disrupted......That is NOT good.

These were show horses. This had nothing to do with the food supply unless you have somewhat unique taste.

@loveofourlord was being sarcastic. I am genuinely interested whether you were aware of that?

My critters are doing just fine, rabbits, ducks, chickens, turkeys and barn cats. No one is prevented from getting feed. Our Tractor Supply is doing great, as well as the other farm stores, co-op, and feed stores.

I walk to my local store and no kids are coughing or sneezing over my stuff because I am not sitting scared in my car.

The corn fields are being plowed and manure spread this week. Don’t see our farmers hiding.

I guess people are a bit more easily scared and jumpy in South Dakota.

I don't see how folks can't see what's going on here. ..........The next time is some goon saying, "600 people gathered at a cattle sale.".......and people who think in fear will SHUT IT DOWN......leaving YOU hungry.

Now now, don't tip your hand and make racism obvious.

It has not messed with it yet because it is still early. The time to stop it is now, not later. It will take longer to spread in Iowa than it will in New York. Look at their stats. Imagine if every other farmer was ill at the same time. Farmers will help each other, but there is a limit in what they can do.

South Dakota is a bit isolated so it will simply take longer to get there. Exponential growth does not spare anyone.

An Iowa man held a horse auction this week that drew about 600 people, despite pleas from health officials during a time of social distancing and shelter-in-place orders to fight the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Ura Gingerich held the auction Thursday in Wayne County, about 78 miles south of Des Moines. He told local health officials he wanted to sell his horses so that he could move to Ohio, according to a statement from the Wayne County health officials provided to CNN affiliate

Did you notice that there were health official there that screened people?
And look at the LOCAL news. Its going to be a bit more factual. They( the health officials screening) made some leave because they were suspicious.

But notice CNN said 100 were already there. And NEVER mentioned that they were screened.

What in the world are you talking about? Your obviously mixing up what I post with another poster.

It has not messed with it yet because it is still early. .
How can I even have a rational discussion with you if your confusing me with other posters?

You shut us down, you starve. Simple as that. It amazes me that people can't see that.

And you seem to want it. How can that be?

Whatever. You don't know nor do I. Pretty sure my whole family had it at Christmas time. We even went in to the clinic......Symptoms that were identical to what they are claiming today.
But we are still playing it safe and being careful.

But we cannot sit in a corner in the fetal position sucking our thumbs. Life doesn't allow it and most of all....our FAITH doesn't allow it.

No, you made a very raciest statement. That you cannot see it is not a good sign.

I was not the one that was confused. And I am the only one posting rational arguments. We might be having some problems here. A "lockdown" will not shut down farmers.

I am positive that you did not have it. Christmas was far too early. It did not come to the U.S. until either late January or early February at the earliest. You simply had the flu. Covid-19 is far worse.

Like I said, "What in the world are you talking about?" Race has nothing to do about what we are discussing. What in the WORLD are you talking about?

It sure seems I must be making to much sense if your dragging "racism" into this discussion. How deplorable and sick have we become?

I was not the one that was confused. .
Sure seems like it if you want to say I was being racist. That's just sick, and is telling of someone who is proud and can't take a rational, logical look at what is being discussed.

Racist.....SMH. Unreal.

And I am the only one posting rational arguments..
So it's rational to argue that I am racist?! I think not.
What if I threw that outlandish claim at you? I would be making rational arguments?

To bad people can't suck it up and say, " you make a rational and solid argument." But rather have to put down the man, because they can't dispute his message.

.
A "lockdown" will not shut down farmers.

See. This is my argument. This is my point. This is why I am here. This has been my focus. it isn't political.

You think a "lockdown" will not shut farmers down......I am telling you, yes it will. Fear, worry and stress will shut ANYONE down......social distance from fear. Fear will shut us ALL down.

You used a racist term. Now it may be ignorance, but at the very least you should have tried to find it. It is not the "Chinese disease".

Sure seems like it if you want to say I was being racist. That's just sick, and is telling of someone who is proud and can't take a rational, logical look at what is being discussed.

Racist.....SMH. Unreal.

Not my fault if you cannot see obvious racism. You should be ashamed rather than shaking your head. And it also tells us that rational reasoning might not be what you are using. But now you know. Let's see if you can improve.

So it's rational to argue that I am racist?! I think not.

Oh my. You just can't let it go. That alone was not why you are irrational.

Take a deep breath. Think. See if you can use proper reasoning for your posts.

Now if you want to go into details on why you are wrong with your message then you need to concentrate on one part of your message at a time. Otherwise all you will get is a general correction. Proper debating is one point at a time, not a slew of nonsense in the hope that at least one point will hold up.

.

Then that is the fault of the farmers. I don't think that they are that weak. It is a shame that you do. Most can see that it is a reasonable solution if they think about it. Most of the farmers that I knew growing up were a fairly intelligent bunch and were not apt to run around like chickens with their heads cut off.

@Gr8Grace , I just want to emphasize the fact that the Governor of Iowa is trying to help the farmers. Could you imagine how long a governor would last in Iowa if he opposed the farmers? You may not like it, but a lockdown is in everyone's best interest. Heck, I hate the lockdown and would like to violate it in various ways. But I know the threat that we all face. It is a new disease that we do not have any natural resistance too. That is why even though relatively few people have caught it so far that there have been so many deaths. And if you studied exponential growth you would understand the need to keep the number of infected people as low as possible.

Some of the problems with this are that it is about twice as contagious as the flu. It has a rather long incubation period so a sick people can infect others long before he or she knows that he is ill. And it is at least ten times as deadly as the flu and probably much more.

The idea of "flattening the curve" is to slow the advance of it so that hospitals are not overwhelmed with patients. That did not work in New York State. They were too late in their actions and New York City with its mass transit was a perfect target for this disease. They are paying a heavy price right now and I would hate to see Iowa pay a similar one.
