Who said that I am anti science? I am anti the worship of science as some kind of lofty, infallible, answer-to-every-human-problem endeavour.

I'm not aware of anyone who is presenting it as such.

You know full well that most of the pioneers of science were believers.

This seems to be argument from authority - these people got science right, so they must have got other things right as well, therefore their religious views were right.

I was taught the "science as god" idea in the 1950's.

That was 70 years ago.

Yes, some good has come out of it and that's fine.

I think science is responsible for more than just "some" good...

At the same time, Darwinism gave rise to extreme racism and was the basis for Hitler's attempt to exterminate all that was not Aryan.

Let's not forget that there is nothing in Darwin's ideas that supports that kind of social Darwinism.

Let's not forget the shameful period of slavery, and later the Klu Klux Klan, that blighted US culture.

What does that have to do with science? Very often, the Bible has been used to support harsh treatment of groups like that, not science.

Whatever.
It's interesting to reflect that slavery existed in the US long before its founding and well before Darwin was even born, and that an entire Christian denomination--still the largest Protestant denomination in the US and the most active promoter of biblical creationism--was founded specifically to support it.

Your posts demonstrate that you are anti science. No one here worships science.

And your argument is rather fragmented. The Ku Klux Klan was strongly Christian. Hitler was not an atheist and though he may not have been your type of Christian he appears to have been a Christian as well. Slavery is supported by the Bible and Darwin was an aboligionist, and though a racist by today's standards he was far more an advocate for equality of races than others of his time. One must remember that people are a product of the environment that they grew up in. According to your own argument it appears that you should be an "evolutionist". The evils that you complain about all arose with the support of Christian groups.

I take issue with your definition of Christian. There is no way that Hitler was a Christian. The only religion he respected was Islam. Mohamed and Hitler had much in common.

Nothing outrageous about it. It's simple truth. Hitler if anything was less of a monster than Mohamed. Mo thought that sex with a 9 year old girl was fine - as many Muslims do still.

You are quite mistaken. I never defined Christianity and there is no "correct" definition of the term. That is shown by the many wars that have been fought one group of Christians fighting another because the other's version of Christianity was wrong. As to Hitler he always claimed to be a Catholic. Though he was quite a bit bent from their regular practices, but that is the closest religion one could claim for him. By the rules of this forum if he were a member today he would have to be accepted as a "Christian".

You brought up the bogus argument without really looking into the facts. All of the bad examples that you gave are better attributed to Christians than to "evolutionists".

Complaining about evolution is no different than complaining about gravity. They are both facts and theories. Once again I offer to discuss the basics of science with you so that you can learn. One cannot seriously advance very far in the sciences if one does not understand the basics.

Check it out yourself. Prove me wrong. It's in the public domain.

When a person makes a claim, such as you did, you take on a burden of proof. When others ask you to support your claim and you do not you are then in essence admitting that you are wrong.

I've had enough dealings with atheists to know that I'm wasting my time and energy. Enough is enough.

Naughty naughty. Now you once again imply that others are guilty of your wrongs.

And remember, it is not just atheists that support the concept of evolution. In fact it is a very very sure bet that there are far more Christians that are "evolutionists" than there are atheists that are evolutionists. One of the best resources that you should avail yourself of is Biologos. Written and ran by Christians for Christians.

BioLogos - God's Word. God's World.

And yet slavery and racism existed long before Darwin ever came about. In fact, many people used the Bible to support both racism and slavery.

Really, I think anyone who uses this line of argument clearly shows that they know nothing about science or Darwin.
