Hi all this discussion is on the origin of the "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH IN CREATION".

Let's remove all of the man made teachings and traditions that are out there and take the word of God and see what what God's Word says when the "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH" was created for all mankind.

Let's start in the book of GENESIS at the end of all creation on the "SEVENTH DAY OF THE CREATION WEEK" where it is written

GENESIS 2:1-3 [1], THIS THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH WERE FINISHED, AND ALL THE HOST OF THEM. [2], And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made.

NOTE: CREATION was finished in six days *GENESIS 1:1-31; GENESIS 2:1-2 at this time (7th Day) God RESTED *GENESIS 2:2. God then set apart the "SEVENTH DAY" from the other days of the week and "BLESSED" the "SEVENTH DAY" and made the "SEVENTH DAY" a "HOLY DAY" of "REST" as God RESTED from all the work that he had made on the "SEVENTH DAY" of creation.

QUESTION: WHERE IS THE SABBATH IN GENESIS 2:1-3 IN CREATION?

ANSWER: In "RESTING"! The Hebrew word for "RESTING; RESTED or REST"(God's REST; *GENESIS 2:2-3) is the Hebrew word and verb for "OBSERVE OR KEEP SABBATH" (שָׁבַת shâbath). It is how the Sabbath is kept

RESTED 7673. שָׁבַת shâbath, shaw-bath´; a prim. root; to repose, i.e. desist from exertion; used in many impl. relations (caus., fig. or spec.):—(cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep or observe the sabbath, suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

The HEBREW word for REST; RESTED (שָׁבַת shâbath) is the verb of doing or keeping the SABBATH (שַׁבָּת shabbâth) noun. שָׁבַת shâbath (H7673) is the root word and verb of the noun form of the Hebrew word H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth which means intermission, that is, (specifically) the Sabbath: - (+ every) sabbath.

There was no H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth before the first sabbath rest was created so the Hebrew Word H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth cannot be used in GENESIS 2:1-3 as there was no noun for something that was not previously created.

So GENESIS 2:1-3 shows us the "ORIGIN" of Gods' "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH" in creation. It was the result of God's "FINISHED WORK" of creation where God "RESTED" from all His Works, "BLESSED" and set apart the "SEVENTH DAY" as a "HOLY DAY" OF "REST" *GENESIS 2:1-3 for "ALL MANKIND" as shown by JESUS in...

MARK 2:27 [27], And he said to them, THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN and not man for the Sabbath.

The Greek word used here for MAN is G444 ἄνθρωπος; anthrōpos From G435 and ὤψ ōps (the countenance ; from G3700); manfaced, that is, a human being: - certain, man.

Now all the above proves that God's SABBATH has it's origin in the "SEVENTH DAY" of the creation week where GOD "RESTED" (God's REST) kept the "SEVENTH DAY" and "SET IT APART" from all the other days of the week and "BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY" as a "HOLY DAY OF REST FOR ALL MANKIND *GENESIS 2:1-3; MARK 2:27.

Let's prove this once and for all so there is no doubt (but we can still go further as we will see). We have looked at the Hebrew Word for Sabbath which is the verb for "KEEPING SABBATH or SABABTH OBSERVANCE by "RESTING", let's look now at God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments and the Hebrew Word used here for the noun of what is being kept by "RESTING" H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth...

EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY [Made Holy at creation GENESIS 2:3]. [9], Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: [10], But THE SEVENTH DAY [ Genesis 2:1-3] IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD : in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: [WHY?] [11], FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY; WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY. [Refering to GENESIS 2:1-3]

NOTE: The SABBATH in creation being part of a "FINISHED" work of God's creation we are to look back. God says "REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY" *EXODUS 20:8. What is the day that God made a HOLY DAY in GENESIS 2:1-3? It was the "SEVENTH DAY"! GENESIS 2:3 [3], And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY: because that in it he had RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] from all his work which God created and made. Now notice in EXODUS 20:10 which day is the SABBATH DAY? [10] But THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD. This is the day that God "BLESSED and set apart and made as a "HOLY DAY OF REST" in GENESIS 2:2-3. This is the day that God "RESTED" and "KEPT THE SABBATH (verb שָׁבַת shâbath H7673 to KEEP SABBATH).

Now the drum roll please....

Why are we to keep God's 4th commandment "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH"? The answer is clearly given in EXODUS 20:11 which points back to GENESIS 2:1-3 on the "SEVENTH DAY OF CREATION" [11], FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY; WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY. This is refering to GENESIS 2:1-3 nearly word for word.

BOOM! Did you catch that? God's Word says in the 4th Commandment of God's 10 Commandment, that the first SABBATH has its ORIGIN from the "SEVENTH DAY" of creation quoting GENESIS 2:1-3!

As shown above the scriptures alone clearly teach that God's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH from God's 4th commandment has its origin in GENESIS 2:1-3 on the "SEVENTH DAY" of the creation week where God "BLESSED" and made the "SEVENTH DAY" a "HOLY DAY" of "REST" (verb שָׁבַת shâbath H7673 to KEEP SABBATH).

This links directly into the new testament scriptures of believing the gospel of our Lord JESUS Christ here...

HEBREWS 4:1-11
[1], Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into HIS REST, any of you should seem to come short of it.
[2], For to us was the gospel preached, as well as to them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
[3], For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into MY REST: ALTHOUGH THE WORKS WERE FINISHED FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.
[4], FOR HE SPOKE IN A CERTAIN PLACE (GENSIS 2:1-3) OF THE SEVENTH DAY ON THIS WISE, AND GOD DID REST THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS.
[5], And in this place again, If they shall enter into MY REST.

NOTE
: CONTEXT is God's REST from the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH REST OF CREATION (v4-5) and those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW GOD's WORD enter into God's SABBATH REST as GOD did on the SEVENTH DAY of the week. CONTEXT is GOD's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH REST and those who BELIEVE AND FOLLOW GOD'S WORD enter into that rest which God's WORD defines as the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH which is GOD'S REST!

HEBREWS 4:9 SO THEN IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH.

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word.

Hebrews 7.12 says the law was changed.

Hebrews 7.19 says that what the believer now has is better than the law.

Hi faroukfarouk nice to see you and welcome. What law was changed and why was it changed in HEBREWS 7 and what is HEBREWS 7 talking about? HEBREWS 7 is not talking about God's 10 commandments.

Hi; ty; sorry; didn't see your SDA link.

Hebrews 7.12: "For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law."

Hebrews 7.12: "For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law."

Yes that is correct. HEBREWS 7:12 says that the laws of the Priesthood were changed because JESUS did not come from the tribe of Levi. Only those from the tribe of Levi could become Priests in the old covenant *DEUTERONOMY 18:1-7; NUMBERS 1:48-53; DEUTERONOMY 10:8; NUMBERS 3:5-10; NUMBERS 8:19; NUMBERS 18:1-7; NUMBERS 8:5-21. JESUS was from the tribe of Judah *Genesis 49:10; Luke 3:33; Hebrews 7:14, hence a change in the laws of the Priesthood not the 10 commandments.

God bless

Law keeping involved the whole system of Levites; indeed they were central to it. Now that the Levites are in abeyance completely, the whole law system of the past has been gutted.

Hebrews 7 is not saying that there is no more 10 commandments because through the law is the knowledge of sin *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7. HEBREWS 7 is talking about the change in the ceremonial laws in relation to the Priesthood. JESUS is of the tribe of Judah and not a Levite. According to the torah the priests could only come from the tribe of Levi under the old covenant.

The change of the law from HEBREWS 7 is in reference to the laws of the Levitical Priesthood *DEUTERONOMY 18:1-7; NUMBERS 1:48-53; DEUTERONOMY 10:8; NUMBERS 3:5-10; NUMBERS 8:19; NUMBERS 18:1-7; NUMBERS 8:5-21. Not God's 10 commandments. JESUS is of the Priestly order of Melchisedek which means "KING and PRIEST"

Compare:

Exodus 20: 8 Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labour and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

To:

Dueteronomy 5:
12 Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labour and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do. 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

These two versions were written about 850 BC and 625 BC respectively. One has to wonder why God changed his mind about the reason for the Sabbath.

Hi Jack for me I do not see any contradictions here in EXODUS and DEUTERONOMY. EXODUS 20:1-17 was written and spoken by God, directly to ISRAEL while DUETERONOMY 5 is MOSES speaking to ISRAEL who have all just come out of the land of Egypt. Also, I do not think any of the scholars are in consensus on the dates these books were written. They are only estimates at best.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts though.

Hebrews 7.12 says the law was changed.

Hebrews 7.19 says that what the believer now has is better than the law.
What the bible actually says:

Hebrews 7:12 Says that the law was transferred, not changed--look it up yourself:

Strong's:
3331 metathesis met-ath'-es-is from 3346; transposition, i.e. transferral

3346 metatithemi met-at-ith'-ay-mee from 3326 and 5087; to transfer, i.e. (literally) transport, (by implication) exchange, (reflexively) change sides, or (figuratively) pervert:--carry over, change, remove, translate, turn. see GREEK for 3326 see GREEK for 5087

"translatio" -E. Jerome -Heb 7:12 (L. Vulgate) [c.405]

"translacioun" -J. Wycliffe -Heb 7:12 (Wycliffe B.) [c.1395]

"translated" -W. Tyndale -Heb 7:12 (Tyndale B.) [1525/1530]

"traspasamiento" -C. de Reina -Heb 7:12 (B. del Oso) [1569]

To deny that the law has been transferred to Christ, is to deny the new priesthood, which is the new administration of God's eternal law; which administration is that of grace, the former administration was that of death: Jesus Christ is now the new, and unchanging, Eternal Priest, to God's ancient, and unchanging, Eternal Law.

Sorry, folks, but it's just that simple, no matter how many years you spent at seminary, learning otherwise, it is, just truly, that simple.

My pleasure, brother.

What causes most to misunderstand God's plain commands, is a failure to make a distinction between God's laws, and the administration of His laws.

The administration of God's law for us, was against us, in that it was the administration of death, instituted because of disobedience, and entrusted to Levi, the fierce and cruel and wrathful avenger, out of all the brethren, who when Israel did sin, answered the call of Moses, to slay their own brethren, and did: this administration, along with it's administrators, has been replaced, by the New Administration, and the New Administrator, Who's administration is now by grace.

For example, the law to stone the adulterer, was against us, in that it required our death, but the law not to commit adultery was for us, in that it secured our hearts: all the administrative laws, contained in the law--the blessings and curses--are all now by Christ, Who died once for all, to save everyone who believes, and is returning to kill, once for all, everyone who disobeys... It is all now given to Christ, Who does things once, and for all, and for ever...

--Under the New Administration, payment for sin is already made, wherefore we receive forgiveness of sins, by His holy name: this New Administration, the administration of grace, is now the only way to the Father, and the only way we can pray, without first having to pay.

PS: There is much to say about this, but once the basic concept is understood, books like Galatians become instant favorites.

Godspeed to you, brother.

Want more????

It is pretty hard to keep the Sabbath and also "believe in" - what is called evolutionism.

Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

consider them "compared" -- not as "two versions of Exodus 20" but as "a context set, a legal code set" vs a "a legal code reminded of with added reasons to obey it".

These two versions were written about 850 BC and 625 BC respectively.

Totally false.

One has to wonder why God changed his mind

absolutely false.

"I do not change" Malachi 4.

"The same yesterday today and forever" Hebrews 13.

I prefer the Bible.

Indeed Bob, we need to take God's Word as it says. The children of God in the wilderness could not enter in because of their unbelief and sins.

Hi; ty; sorry; didn't see your SDA link.Hebrews 7.12: "For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law."

Sorry must have missed this one. What SDA link were you talking about? Did I provide any? I thought I was only providing scripture.
