George Conway group releases first anti-Trump ad aimed at evangelicals

An anti-President Trump conservative group that includes George Conway, who is the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and a frequent critic of President Trump, has released its first advertisement aimed at evangelicals who back the president.

The Lincoln Project’s first advertisement takes aim at “The MAGA Church” by splicing clips of the president and his supporters speaking about faith with clips of Trump cursing and speaking crudely.

The ad begins with Trump saying at an evangelical rally last week that, “evangelicals, Christians of every denomination and believers of every faith have never had a greater champion — not even close — in the White House.”

At the same time, a verse from the Book of Matthew appears on the screen: “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

Matthew 7:15 the verse that is used in the video, is the exact verse I've always thought of in re to Donald Trump and his enablers.

George Conway is not a 'never-Trumper." He'd voted for Trump in 2016 & his wife Kellyanne Conway still works for Trump. He's a very prominent & respect attorney who has the rare distinction of arguing before the United States Supreme Court & receiving a unanimous decision in his client's favour. The other members of the Lincoln Project are also conservatives.

Billy Graham's granddaughter gave her support:

I think everyone has to be aware of false prophets. Zoomers in particular are vulnerable not just to the politicians but in ordinary life. Please don't post here unless you're a Zoomer.

I also wanted to talk w fellow Zoomers about how evangelical support for Trump has impacted your ability to witness. I think it's probably based in part on where you live? I live in Canada but am an American Christian. I do go to the United Church of Canada.

The evangelical support in the US has caused a ton of confusion. It's definitely impaired my ability to witness. This video was a big help to me. I shared it on my social media & it lead to some really great conversations that were impactful. Ppl have to separate the behaviour of Christians from Christ & not get turned away from our religion bc of false prophets who are out to exploit for selfish interests.

Well, I'm glad some American Christians have finally found their spines. It's a shame it's taken so long, though. I've never understood how Trump managed to get elected in the first place. The USA is a very religious country, more than here even though we are officially a Christian country. There has always been so much emphasis placed on the candidate's religious views and their values, where they go to church, whether they can quote scripture, etc. Then along came Trump: thrice married with dozens of adulterous lovers in his recent past, swearing and making obscene sexual comments every time he opened his mouth, and literally announcing he was sinless. I thought evangelicals over there would've fought tooth and nail against him, but instead they embraced him! I guess money and political power meant more than faith and values. Ever since then I've been watching each new scandal and assuming that would be the day the evangelicals gave up and walked out on Trump, but instead the love affair just gets stronger. At this point, I don't think the video will work on his followers. They don't seem to be in a mindset where evidence matters. It's very much like a cult, and terrifying.
