What is the prayer of faith?

Mat 17:20 Jesus replied: It is because you don't have enough faith! But I can promise you this. If you had faith no larger than a mustard seed, you could tell this mountain to move from here to there. And it would. Everything would be possible for you.

One of the things that annoys me at this time is the number of Christians giving advice that “you can’t pray, and receive healing”. This flies in the face of the very words of Jesus, that state that if you have faith “Everything would be possible for you”.

We should be encouraging faith in believers, to trust in God’s preserving power. To seek Him if they become sick.

This is not to say that you should not do as governments tell you, the bible tells us very clearly that “we are to obey those in power over us”. If you government tells you to isolate, do so. If you are to wash your hands at work, do it.

But now is a time to draw close to God. To seek Him intimately, to draw of His protection.

Psa 91:3-4 The Lord will keep you safe from secret traps and deadly diseases. He will spread his wings over you and keep you secure.

God can and will heal some Christians of Covid-19. Others will not be blessed in that way. Faith will not be the dominant factor. If faith was the dominant factor in whether or not God will show up and protect/heal you, then Jim Elliot and his team would not have been murdered - they were praying Psalm 91 and believing it, and they were murdered.

Every Christian should be responsible and take precautions. Social distance. Stay at home if your state has a stay at home order. Wash your hands scrupulously. Take enough, but not too much when you shop. Stay home if you are sick. If you are a pastor, you should be doing church remotely already until this blows over. If you refuse to take these steps, how are you any better than a snake handler. And if you are a snake handler, stay at home anyway so other people won't get infected.

This story is encouraging, Christian who prays regularly says "God healed him of Coronovirus".

Most of the people survive this whatever they pray or not. The guy was on hospital for around 13 days then got better and went home. Great miracle healing story.

I have no fear of getting the coronavirus. If I become infected, I'll just pray it away. I know prayer will work here because my faith is strong.

and some do not make it. Is anyone doubting that these pastors were not praying or that their faith wasn’t strong ?

It is just hubris to consider this can’t happen to you.

You either did not read, or do not care, about what God did in this story.

He was in a state of deterioration, he was not "slowly getting better", he was getting worse. The doctors feared for him. Jesus came to the man, a man of faith, and said "I am healing you", that same day he regained strength, and the doctors were so shocked that they asked him "if he was a praying man", for they saw the power of prayer at work in him.

Knowing God does give strong confidence.

Psa 92:13-15 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." 1 John 5:14

Remember, if we ask anything according to God's Will.. this is very important, even Jesus prayed for the Father to take this cup of suffering from Him in the garden ending with, "but not my will, but thine be done".

In Matthew 17:21 we see Jesus mention that for that type of demon that fasting and prayer would be required. He then starts telling them in Matthew 17:22 about what was going to happen, His being delivered up to the authorities.

Then Matthew makes the point of going into the parable of paying taxes. Why do they have to pay taxes? Because they are not children of Rome is the point of the parable.

So who does God take care of? God's children.

Who does this world take care of? The children of this world.

Why prayer and fasting? To ascertain God's will .... and there will be times God allows certain things to occur, He had a grand purpose in mind when Jesus was delivered into the hands of the authorities and conquered the world through that death. (The world knew Him not)

Belief is required, but more is required still. Prayer and fasting is necessary, staying within God's will primary and knowing that, whether in life or death God will protect His children. God provided the tax after all.

In everything there is God's will. God may well take some people home at this time. Let's say a pastor get's sick, they in my opinion, will pass through a filter, and it is not the filter of "you had enough faith", or "you had none", it is the filter of "what is best", for all things work together for the good of those who love God. As Paul said, "to depart and be with the LORD is far better, but he stayed on to help his flock". The LORD knows the hearts of His servants, some will desire to depart to be with the LORD. Others still will stand against the virus and continue their mission down here. I am not advocating a hyper faith, that denies good men will die. Neither am I advocating that only those with super faith will live.

What I am concerned about is the worldliness and lack of faith in the body of Christ. People do not "know" the potential power of their God. Thinking that God can not, and will not heal. They go around, seeding doubt, in those who God want to engender strength.

By the way, just so you know. I am isolating, and obeying every ordinance of our government at this time. Not out of fear, but rather, in obedience to the word of God, that tells us to obey those in authority over us.

We should certainly be social distancing etc, but we should not be living in doubt of God's healing power.

I have mentioned this in other posts. But Psalm 91 I believe is the LORD's word to the church, He specifically spoke it to me to speak out to his people. Many of the ministries I trust, have also said they received Psalm 91 as a word from God for their churches. Individuals in the church who seek God regularly also have received that same scripture as God's letter to us at this time, independently, not knowing of the others.

God may speak to you in a different way. But I know how God has revealed himself to me.

That's weird. I've been singing that, like, every day lately and it's been great, I've felt so much better since I started...

Not sure I know what you mean? What have you been singing?

I wash my hands because I am asked to do so by my wife, but I don't put my faith in it.

That is the great thing about germ theory. It works even if you don’t put any faith on it.

You can totally say to yourself that washing your hands is meaningless put the germs die anyway.

You can also pray your hands clean and save on toilet paper but funnily enough that seems to be less exercised option.

We are enjoined to pray for deliverance from any common plague or sickness in the Book of Common Prayer, as follows:

O ALMIGHTY God, who in thy wrath didst send a plague upon thine own people in the wilderness, for their obstinate rebellion against Moses and Aaron; and also, in the time of king David, didst slay with the plague of pestilence threescore and ten thousand, and yet remembering thy mercy didst save the rest: Have pity upon us miserable sinners, who now are visited with great sickness and mortality; that like as thou didst then accept of an atonement, and didst command the destroying Angel to cease from punishing, so it may now please thee to withdraw from us this plague and grievous sickness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
