What’s the basis for that idea?
Exactly? Working on it? Setting America up for it? I mean, the WHOLE Guardian article absolutely scalds the complete an utter inaction of the Trump administration in the face of this thing which is basically a war footing against an invisible enemy!

Washington State had their first Covid 19 patient on 20th January.
The Wall Street Journal said "Act Now to Prevent an American Epidemic" on 28th January.
29th February Trump takes action. Please explain?

A week after that, the Wall Street Journal published an opinion article by two former top health policy officials within the Trump administration under the headline Act Now to Prevent an American Epidemic. Luciana Borio and Scott Gottlieb laid out a menu of what had to be done instantly to avert a massive health disaster.

Top of their to-do list: work with private industry to develop an “easy-to-use, rapid diagnostic test” – in other words, just what South Korea was doing.

It was not until 29 February, more than a month after the Journal article and almost six weeks after the first case of coronavirus was confirmed in the country that the Trump administration put that advice into practice. Laboratories and hospitals would finally be allowed to conduct their own Covid-19 tests to speed up the process.

Any unfiltered communication from the prez indicates that he sees this as an opportunity to settle some scores and get people to tell him how great he is in return for some basic help from the federal govt. Otherwise, either he still genuinely believes the virus really is going to just disappear or he is simply indifferent to its spread.

That claim is unfounded. The president was working on the problem and taking it seriously from at least January. But at that time he was also attempting to keep the public from panicking, which is something every good leader knows to do.

No he wasn't.

"
“The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”- feb 24

You know, the day before Mardi Gras where he should have been making apparent how serious this was and getting things canceled.

"
“CDC & my administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.” - feb 25 as mardi gras went on. Almost no tests or testing done, little to no real preparation.

"
I think that’s a problem that’s going to go away. They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.” - feb 25. Outright lies here. We were not anywhere near a vaccine at this time, we still aren't, barring some kind of miracle.

"
“We’re ordering a lot of supplies. We’re ordering a lot of, uh, elements that frankly we wouldn’t be ordering unless it was something like this. But we’re ordering a lot of different elements of medical.”" Feb 28, more than a month since the first case hit the US.

"
“You take a solid flu vaccine, you don’t think that could have an impact, or much of an impact, on corona?”" - march 2, a pure display of ignorance more than a month into the crisis.

“I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.” - march 6. outright lie, and ironically just about the point US cases and deaths start skyrocketing.

"
“Anybody right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. And the tests are beautiful. They are perfect just like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect. Right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good.”" - march 6. Another lie. The US had only tested 2,000 people at this point. Most can still not get tests.

"
“It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”" - march 10. Another outright lie that downplayed the problem. national emergency declared 3 days later, after the spread had been thorough throughout the nation.

And what was he working on during that whole 6 weeks exactly?:oldthumbsup::oldthumbsup::oldthumbsup:
If you don't know the answer to that question, you were not in any position to make the accusation that he was slow to get working on the threat.

Except that the virus is currently spreading wildly out of control, so whatever he was doing didn’t apparently work.

Don't forget him talking about how the outbreak impacts the stock market.

The buck always stops at the top helped by those underneath. Yours is a logical fallacy known as a false dilemma. You might want to brush up on your argumentation skills.

I don't disagree with you that Trump is to blame. I disagree with you on putting all of the blame on Trump. In effect, you give a free pass to all the other politicians and officials who screwed up. Comprende?
So you don't blame the leader for failing to lead, got it. And what other politicians and officials screwed up?

So you don't blame the leader for failing to lead, got it. And what other politicians and officials screwed up?
Among others, the gov of New York who didn't act quickly enough and now has a huge crisis in NYC to deal with. The gov of Florida who foolishly allowed college students into Florida for Spring Break by not closing the beaches soon enough. Get the picture?

One minute Trump is saying all these soothing cooing noises like the quotes above. The next minute he says this. Has Trump lost his mind?

“If we have between 100,000 and 200,000 we’ve all together done a very good job,” Trump says, about up to 200,000 Americans dying of #COVID19.

China, a country with 1.4 BILLION people, only has 3300 deaths from Covid. Trump's congratulating himself on the projections that America will "only" lose 100 to 200k?

They could lose half the country and his acolytes would still claim that he has done a “very good job”, because he ‘saved’ the other half...!

Yes, at a meeting where doctors corrected him. Honestly, I could give him a pass at the very start of this, it would have been a question some folks might ask, just not knowing. But it shows how little he bothered to learn about this virus, and viruses in general, in over a month of a growing pandemic.

The US Sent Tons of Medical Supplies to China Even as Senators Warned of Virus Threat Here
March 29. 2020

The United States government sent nearly 17.8 tons of donated medical supplies to China—including masks and respirators—almost three weeks after the first case of the coronavirus was reported in the state of Washington.

In a press release from the State Department dated Feb. 7, the agency announced it was prepared to spend up to $100 million to assist China as the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths continued to rise there. The day the press release went out, Trump tweeted that he spoke with China’s President Xi Jinping and that China would be “successful especially as the weather starts to warm & the virus hopefully becomes weaker and then gone.”

At the time, sending supplies overseas may have seemed like the right thing to do. But it’s worth noting that this release of vital medical supplies came two days after several senators, including Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy, offered to allocate congressional emergency funding for preventative health measures and research to ward off the virus in the United States—and President Donald Trump turned it down. “Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff, etc…” tweeted Murphy, “and they need it now.”

It appears that this President places more faith in the word of Chinese President Xi Jinping than those of America's pwn governors when it comes to their requests for medical equipment including masks, gowns and ventilators - Xi JInping was never accused of inflating the need!

So much for the slogan "America first!"
