They started contact-tracing immediately, and had plenty of testing. That's not an approach we can use at this stage, though it's frustrating that we didn't use it when this business started.South Korea flattened the curve without lockdowns. Their factories are open.
My sense is that it's spread widely enough that the whole country needs to do close to a lockdown for a few weeks. Once it calms down, if we start planning, we can look at other approaches.
Personally I think a quarantine of NY is just silly. It's clear that clusters are already growing a number of different places. I think it's attractive to Trump because if he can confine it to a few states the rest can avoid shutting down. But as far as I can tell, that's not realistic. Chicago, New Orleans, and Detroit are starting up. Also I think some smaller places.
