yet new york and a few other places are going to be hitting capacity soon.

Because their authorities didn't take precautions soon enough Como early this month told people don't worry about it, then yesterday the surgeon general lady of NY told people staying home doesn't help after they announced nationally to stay at home. Had they taken this serious in early March NY wouldn't be so bad. Here in my county with a population of 3.2 million only 1000 have it because our surgeon general guy started shutting things down instantly

thats 4-5 weeks after it was mentioned, I'm talking about originally and what you've been saying that this would be a 2 week shutdown, the goverments assurance...or was it trumps.

I honestly do not know. I don't. I haven't even really concern myself with that. I have been reading up on the virus itself, and how I can keep my family safe.

do you have link to her saying that? What I'm hearing is from hospitals and such saying it's going to get worse, along with the surgeon general of the US.

I heard this afternoon on the BBC that a cat in Belgium contracted the virus from his/her owners. It is bad enough that it is killing people, but cats are special. Prayers that this little kitty recovers and that no other kitties come down with the virus. Thus far this is the only known case of human to kitty transmission.

I don't remember Cuomo ever saying not to worry about it. A month ago, if anything he was a bit of a fearmongerer, talking about how we were going to have tens of thousands of cases before we even had the first one. He has never not been in apocalyptic mode over this.

The state should have been shut down a week earlier than it was, but earlier than that wouldn't have really been possible since we didn't have the testing capacity to even know what was going on.

So... essentially this is a thread about how people can be wrong?

Cause if its just about the politics of these people... there are people like Bill Mahr on the other side that openly hoped for a recession.

IF the pandemic is as serious as you believe... stop trying to fight about politics as now is a time to leave that garbage at the door and be united, working together... not looking to cause more tensions and division.

I dont like Republicans nor Democrats, but I AM sick of both sides using the suffering of others to push their own agendas. We have bigger things to focus on than orange man evil.

That position would be a good one...if everyone were interested in the same thing, unfortunately while some people seem interested in protecting people's lives, other people seem more interested in making sure their bottom line stays fat even if thousands of at risk people have to die to keep it that way.

If the system goes down, the death toll WILL go up.

Right now there is a very fine line that must be walked and difficult choices eill have to be made.

Egos on both sides need to be put away, period.

Petty squabbles do nothing but divide our energies... lives will be lost.... that is undeniable and unavoidable. It doesnt matter who did what, it is where it is and we are where we are... blame can be doled out AFTER.

The key now is to risk as few as possible... while ALSO keeping the system stable enough until it ends.

Next it will be the hantavirus folks. You will not be allowed to break free from unabated fear, and rumors just yet. People will be scared of rats now.

Best course of action is to educate yourself and act accordingly. There will always be other situations.

It was on the news conference yesterday, what she said when ask by a journalist about the modals and their accuracy was that there appears to be a discrepancy in the modals themselves and they are going to look into that, because either our numbers are off or theirs are. That does not mean it may not get worse but may be better or worse than expected. I expected with hot weather (not just warm) and better UV blast from the sun it may die out sooner than later. It seems no place around the globe is getting really hot temperatures, which is unusual since in the western hemisphere it is suppose to be spring here in Southern Ca it should be hot, but next week it finally will be. It's been like winter temperatures here lately, very weird

And do you remember that Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Donald Trump were all downplaying this?
Interesting take on what might destroy what’s left of our economy.

Since you ask, I remember when all sorts of people from all sorts of backgrounds were thinking the same thing.

And I hardly can fault them for that. We had had no experience like this in a hundred years, after all.

It doesn't matter if it is a simple cold or something more. What matters is how easily people move based on the word of it.

The world has demonstrated just how under control it is, and how quickly it will jump without having to ask, "how high?" It goes beyond fear: we as a world entity have been wilfully ignorant, dehumanizing to our fellow man, and we still don't address most all of our shortcomings - yet we have the audacity to believe we are progressing.

The confusion and misinformation is a consequence of the ignorance and agnosticism we consider a trait of intellectual progress. That has always been exploited against us. I wouldn't waste this disaster if I was in power, either. My agenda would FLY through with people distracted and fearful.

It's a common cold that has killed 1200 people in a couple of weeks.
Normal influenza viruses kill also. People with compromised immune systems, or other underlying health problems are vulnerable. What is different with Coronavirus is that we have no vaccine and no built up immunity in the general population.

"In Australia, influenza on average causes 1,500 to 3,000 deaths, about 18,000 hospitalisations and 300,000 GP consultations each year." Influenza Specialist Group.

A by-product of the Coronavirus might even be a much reduced season of influenza as people's behaviour changes.
