When I was about 25, I had to have a kidney biopsy to see why I was leaking blood & protein. They used a long needle inserted into each kidney from the back, to get the samples. It was an easy procedure with just a local anesthetic. The only bad part was having to lay flat on my stomach for 24 hours afterwards.

I pray your procedure goes well and is successful and painless!

Nope - sounds to me like you are awake but not conscious of pain - ask Kate :)

Actually it's just come to mind - it's used for some brain surgery so patient can be awake and they can check how things are going

I did ask Kate, and she says it's no big deal, but if you ever know anyone in health care, they're like mechanics about the body! No sympathy or empathy. They're pretty much like NASCAR folks.

See, I was hoping they could just do a local on it, but Kate said the kidneys are so deep under the muscle that the local would only numb the surface and an area under it, but I'd likely feel things. I'm just wondering, if that's true, why on Earth the doctor would allow that? I hate to disagree with my wife, but I wonder.....

Continued prayers for Kate btw, concerned for her. I added her to a list (first name only, figured you wouldn’t mind) where a monastery is praying for health care workers.

And continued prayers for your situation.

If it was me, I’d prefer not to go under as far as consciousness if pain could be blocked, as long as you can be calm in the surgery.

Funny - I remember I could feel my kidneys “jiggling” a little when the needle was in there.

Hi Everyone,
Christ is Risen!
Tomorrow is my kidney cyst procedure at the hospital. It is scheduled to start at 10:30. I would appreciate my dear friends here remembering Reader Joseph in their prayers.
