If so, who are they and what makes them that one?

One thing I like about my best friend is that during our conversations (particularly times we're talking about the past) we usually dig in and explore things about each other that are new or things we didn't know before. there's something about the depth to that which is special.

Not anymore. My best friend seems to just be my friend now. Maybe it is the season but he rarely speaks to me nowadays.

I am talking to a newer friend more so I am probably just as at fault. I like her. However, my former best friend said yesterday that he wasn't interested in my blister. He also said he may feign interest in it for a close relative but as I am not one he doesn't have to.   :p

I now have a vacancy open for new human 'best friend'. Applicants be advised that they are expected to show interest in any odd minor ailment that I get. lol

Yes. Right now, my closest friends (two) tend to share common interests and similar world view. It gives us something to talk about. However, I have been close friends with people whom we have very different world views (completely different religions and political beliefs). I find that my best friends are people I just "click" with and we can literally go years without talking and get back together and it is like we were never apart. I've had a handful of people like this in my life.

Yes. I know his name. Y'all call him, "Sir." We can be years apart and when we get together we pick up exactly where we left off. The conversation, the angst, the faith. It's as if we are on the same journey in different spaces. We walk through this world willing to take each other's punches. ;)

No, I don't have any friends. But it's alright. I do okay without them. Life can still be interesting without friends.

Dude. You're hilarious. You're one of the funniest, wittiest people on CF. You must live in the middle of nowhere, like me. :) There's no shame in that. Well, except on Tuesdays.

I have before a few times in life. It was my best friend growing up, then a close work friend and then and on and off again love interest who was a better friend than boyfriend.

Now I'm kind of on my own again. That on and off boyfriend/best friend is still in my life, but it's not much of any kind of relationship anymore. He is very much wrapped up in his own circumstances and goals, and won't even have a reasonable conversation about being friends.

Not lately. I mostly moved away from that while in college. Ranking friends, or trying to figure out where I fall in their friendship ranking, doesn't appeal to me. The way I see it, a friend is a friend. Friendships wax and wane, depending on the circumstances. They're not as permanent as family.

I don't recall my dad having a best friend either, unless you count my mom. My mom is more outgoing than he is, but similar in not having a best friend outside of their marriage. This may have influenced how I view adulthood friendships.

I do have a friend whom I became close with over time. I've known him since elementary school, and we almost became like brothers. We both had a lot in common and had strong morals, which is probably why we got a long so well. He was the closest friend I've ever known.

In recent years however, we began to drift apart for whatever reason. We still chat off and on, but as Miles said, friendships wax and wane.

I have two close friends. They have seen me through many dark times. One is christian and one is a believer, but they both steer me to God no matter what they believe in. Ive been through a lot with one of them. We've known each other since our teens and the second is a college buddy.
