It's not my opinion; ask Dr. Fauci.

About what?

Low risk in America?

The possibility of lower cases beginning in April?

What exactly do you want me to link you to that Trump has parroted?

OP Note

Let's leave Trump in one of the dozens of threads about him that exist.

This thread is about churches in Louisiana defying social distancing directives. And certainly I'll allow discussion of the legality or tyrranical aspects of these orders, and church/state separation aspects.

Former chief justice and former U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore is urging Americans “not to give in to fear.”

Government leaders are asking that Churches not meet while the coronavirus is spreading across the country. They claim that meetings of groups of more than ten people increases the chances that the airborne virus will spread.

“I am writing a letter to pastors on the duty to continue church assemblies, even in the midst of these trying times,” Moore added. “Our faith requires it, our duty demands it, and no law or government can prohibit it. See our Facebook page for more information.”

Were the authorities wrong to lock up Typhoid Mary? Mary Mallon - Wikipedia

Whatever your 'conscience', you don't get to endanger other people through your reckless behavior.

Those attending the church service were there by their own will. They were willing to attend, willing to be close to other people who were willing to be there, and willing to trust in God to protect them while doing what they believe God wanted them to do.

It's ironic that people who support gay rights and drug use use the argument of, "It's my body, it's my right!" and "What 2 (or more) consenting adults do with their own bodies is their own business, and government has no right to interfere" now have a differing opinion when it comes to those consenting to be together in church on a Sunday morning.

The problem is, it just takes one infected person to spread Covid-19 widely at a church, and then they take it home to their families and co-workers.

It affects more then just them.

gee....almost as if your body ends where yours does, and if it effects others it no longer applies.

lets not forget there are churches telling people you can't get sick wich is dangerous and harmful to Christianity, there is nothing to be gained by going to church and making others sick.

That's been the argument against legalizing drugs. Of course, it has fallen flat over much of the country as legalization is rather widespread.

Police responded Tuesday night to a Louisiana church where hundreds had congregated despite the state's ban on gatherings of more than 50 people — part of the effort to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Tony Spell, pastor of Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge, said no "dictator law" could keep people from worshipping God, according to the local news.

Spell said his church, which normally has more than 1,000 attendees on Sunday across five locations, will be distributing “anointed handkerchiefs” to provide members with “healing virtues.”

The virus, we believe, is politically motivated,” Spell told WAFB.

I rather doubt that. Viruses vote much less frequently than even young people.
You know what? Worshiping God is really important to me. I do it every day.

But loving people is more important than gathering in groups - even flouting the law to do so - and staying away from them, especially the elderly and compromised, is the thing to do right now.

I agree, or at least hold several sermons per day limiting the number of attendants to remain in compliance with the law. They’re not setting a very good example for the congregation
Better yet....put it online. Let them stay home, as ordered, and watch.

We want to encourage other religious leaders in churches like us, do not let the fear of persecution of any government official,...

So this Pastor Spell wants to say that if the government does anything to Pastors who break the rules they are being "persecuted", it's not persecution if everyone is under the same rules. It would be if it was only churches who had been given this rule.

Baton Rouge area pastor defies governor, welcomes large gathering into church service
Totally agree. This guy simply doesn't understand this.

If our God cannot or will not protect us from this virus, nothing we do will be effective against it.
This might be the most ridiculous thing I've read on this forum, and it's up against stiff competition.

I don't think God exists, but if he does, he gave you a brain for a reason. If there's a hurricane and you try to go to church in the middle of it and you die, it's not because he couldn't or wouldn't protect you - it's because you're an idiot who went out when it clearly wasn't safe and put yourself at needless risk.

God exists. He has made promises to protect us. I believe Him. This is not a hurricane.

His promise is clearly rubbish, even before this whole virus thing. How is he protecting children from cancer? There's far too many examples of non-protection from things completely out of human control. At what point do you look at that promise and think, "I'm not seeing the follow through here?" This virus is far worse than a hurricane. Just because you don't see the visual destruction, you have to look at the bigger picture. Not being stupid includes not going to any large gatherings. Churches aren't magically exempt from diseases and viruses. We need to drill that into your people's heads and it's insane we have to explain this to begin with in 2020.

See also bubonic plague. It has been hypothesized that church meetings lead to spread of the plague.
