My brother lives near the the highest concentrated outbreak area in the state. His county is the second highest in terms of number of infections in the state, but the first highest is also in an adjacent county. The virus is ravaging Detroit like a dog, and he is so near that vicinity.

As Winston Churchill said in WW2, we have nothing to fear but fear itself. The vast majority of people who get the virus survive. Many show only minor symptoms. It is dangerous for those with other chronic illness, but apart from that most people recover. Be sensible, avoid risky behaviour but do not be afraid.

Keep giving your fears to Jesus ladybug. For as long as you feel unrest about it in your heart let Jesus explore it and set you free through the truth of His love over you.

Instead of listening to the news read God's word to yourself and let Him sustain you. Jesus has great ability to sustain the weary and the fearful. He knows what those conditions are like and has an answer for your situation as well.

Please be of good courage.

Isaiah 26:20-21
Go, my people, enter your rooms
and shut the doors behind you;
hide yourselves for a little while
until his wrath has passed by.

See, the Lord is coming out of his dwelling
to punish the people of the earth for their sins.
The earth will disclose the blood shed on it;
the earth will conceal its slain no longer.

As long as one practices safe social distancing and washes/sanitizes his or her hands after touching anything (or don't touch their faces: eyes, mouth, nose), it should be fine. It's not like a plague wandering around that will stick to you as soon as you go out of your house, but some places are more crowded than others and that's mainly where the problem lies, as some people don't really take preventive measures nor care for themselves or others.

Is he working right now? If so, is his work taking all possible precautions to protect him from exposure?

Otherwise is he following CDC guidelines on his own to avoid exposure? I feel like that's all any of us can do at this point, we don't know where the virus is or not in terms of who's infected or what's contaminated. We just have to use common sense, ramp up our hand washing, and keep our distance for now.

I don't know what kind of lifestyle he lead before the outbreak, but if he's a real social creature and he hasn't changed his behavior then his risk of exposure goes up, and sadly that's on him. Hopefully he's being responsible and if he's working, hopefully his employer isn't putting him at unnecessary risk.

he's working remotely so that's a good thing but unfortunately he believes this is all fake and being done by Jews (I'm not freaking kidding). he was going to come over to our house to sign a tax return that my dad was helping prepare for him but my dad convinced him to wait longer, until July. I said that July may not be good enough either so we convinced my brother that we would mail his tax return to him, he'd sign it and mail it himself (since packages seem to carry less risk for whatever reason). besides, our governor issued an executive order for which my brother's actions wouldn't have even been legal right now.

I think we got my brother to stay put. he would have been a loose canon if we had not convinced him to.

Is he staying home and practicing social distancing? That stuff makes a huge, measurable difference.

That's unfortunate. I can't say conspiracy theories haven't occurred to me (none that are Jew-related though), but if he continues going about without a care and then comes down with it, it would be his own doing. It's good that you got him to stay put, hopefully it holds.

If it helps, you could send your brother this link:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator

It shows four different graphs showing how the virus spreads under different conditions. The point is that social distancing/shelter in place tactics are observably effective in slowing the spread.

The reality is that we're all probably getting it sooner or later. The issue isn't necessarily eliminating it so much as slowing the spread so that too heavy a burden isn't placed on the healthcare system.

Honestly, I'm fighting against a bitter strain of misanthropy right now. It'd be great if people would just STOP THINKING already and just do what they're told. Experts are saying social distancing and SIP methods will work to vastly slow the spread of the virus.

To paraphrase the Joker, you get what you deserve.

There is a house across the street from us. I think it is smaller than ours because it doesn't have a family room. There are always multiple cars at the house, at least 3 or 4, but tonight there are freaking 8 cars there. I don't know how it's even possible to fit 8 people in that house. That's assuming 1 person per car, which may not even be the case.

Take solace in Christ:

Whoever goes to the Lord for safety,
whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty,
can say to him,
“You are my defender and protector.
You are my God; in you I trust.”
He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers
and from all deadly diseases.
He will cover you with his wings;
you will be safe in his care;
his faithfulness will protect and defend you.
You need not fear any dangers at night
or sudden attacks during the day
or the plagues that strike in the dark
or the evils that kill in daylight.

A thousand may fall dead beside you,
ten thousand all around you,
but you will not be harmed.
You will look and see
how the wicked are punished.

You have made the Lord your[a] defender,
the Most High your protector,
and so no disaster will strike you,
no violence will come near your home.
God will put his angels in charge of you
to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands
to keep you from hurting your feet on the stones.
You will trample down lions and snakes,
fierce lions and poisonous snakes.

God says, “I will save those who love me
and will protect those who acknowledge me as Lord.
When they call to me, I will answer them;
when they are in trouble, I will be with them.
I will rescue them and honor them.
I will reward them with long life;
I will save them.”

I actually have that memorized now lol. It's not exactly the same version as the one here, but it's the same prayer.

I’m sorry. Hopefully he will be ok. A lot of people that work with the public are coming down with it. Our Church canceled all Eucharistic visits, etc. I’d probably have it now if they did not shutter everything.

So far, I've stayed in the house (except for a walk around the block once a day). I just have to get out and see that the world is still out there.

I still go to the grocery store but I don't like to do it. There are still empty shelves of certain things (not just toilet paper). I hope I don't sound whiny or anything when I say this but it's vexing me. I don't know if it's the store management not doing their thing, or if the companies are taking a long time producing the things they need to replenish.

It's the supply chain, so many hoarded so fast that the supply trucks can't keep up anywhere. We don't go out at all except for mail and packages which my wife sprays the heck out of with Lysol and we use all deliveries except for some things at Wal-mart (Which I hate). I am under Dr's Order to stay home with my bronchitis.

My fur baby doesn't know what to think, she loved having daddy at home and was all over me now this week he realized that her schedule got up ended and now she is more like Garfield :)
