I know that I wouldn't tolerate that kind of a relationship with a doctor. I view a doctor in the same light I view any other kind of consultant who has expert knowledge which I don't possess myself. If I can surprise him with something I saw on TV then he's fired. Yes, I am in control of my own health care and expect clear explanations and reasonable discussion of alternative treatments from a doctor, but if I have to actually inform him about it then, in my opinion, he's a fake and needs to be replaced.
Good luck with that. Getting in with a new doctor can take months even if you don't have insurance hassles to deal with. Then there's the very real possibility that that thing you "saw on TV" is a load of hogwash that didn't percolate up to professional circles. "I saw a thing on tv" is, essentially, the same mechanic by which YEC'ers and AGW-deniers proclaim themselves smarter and more insightful than the professional scientists working in those fields.
I'm not saying your position is entirely wrong, just that it can get really fuzzy really quickly.
