1 Corinthians 9

1 Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord? 2 If to others I am not an apostle, nevertheless I surely am to you! For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord." 3 My defense to those examining me in this: 4 Have we no right at all to eat and drink? 5 Have we no right at all to be leading about a sister as a wife, even as the rest of the apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? 6 Or have only I and Barnabas no right not to be working? 7 Who is warring at any time supplying his own rations? Who is planting a vineyard and not eating of its fruit? Or who is tending a flock and not eating of the milk of the flock? 8 Not according to man am I speaking these things. Or is the law not also saying these things?

According to who then?

The what? The law? What law?

9 For in the law of Moses it is written: "You shall not muzzle the threshing ox.Not for oxen is the care of God!"

So Paul is quoting YHWH's authoritative word?

Where did he get this, in a vision after Yahshua ascended?

(CLV) Dt 25:4
You shall not muzzle a bull when it threshes.

The TORAH?!?

10 Or is He undoubtedly saying it because of us? Because of us, for it was written that the plower ought to be plowing in expectation, and the thresher to partake of his expectation."

Wait! What's this? Paul is not only quoting of the 613; but he's applying it in a way that is deeper than what is actually written.

(CLV) Isa 42:21
Yahweh, He has delight for the sake of His righteousness, And He may magnify the law and ennoble it.

Oh, so it is written.

HE'S SAYING THAT THE TORAH WAS WRITTEN BECAUSE OF US?

We actually have to listen to YHWH's Torah?!? Where is he getting this? Was it written on his heart?

11 If, in expectation, we sow the spiritual in you, is it a great thing if we shall reap of your fleshly things?

Fleshly things? That sounds like works.

12 If others are partaking of this right from you, are not rather we? Nevertheless we do not use this right, but we are forgoing all, lest we may be giving any hindrance to the evangel of Christ"

Wait a minute! Is Paul saying that if we don't obey YHWH's law, at even a deeper level than it is written, and actually perform works; that the evangel of Messiah may be hindered?

That sounds awfully legalistic. So many have told me that I didn't have to do a thing except lay back and enjoy the grace.

13 Are you not aware that the workers at the sacred things are eating of the things of the sanctuary? Those settling beside the altar have their portion with the altar. 14 Thus the Lord also prescribes that those who are announcing the evangel are to be living of the evangel. 15 Yet I do not use any of these things. Now I do not write these things that it may be becoming thus with me, for it is my ideal rather to be dying, than that anyone shall be making my boast void." 16 For if I should be bringing the evangel, it is not for me to boast in, for necessity is lying upon me, for it were woe to me if I should not be bringing the evangel!" 17 For if I am engaging in this voluntarily, I have wages, yet if involuntarily, I have been entrusted with an administration." 18 What, then, is my wage? That, in bringing the evangel, I should be placing the evangel without expense, so as not to use up my authority in the evangel." 19 For, being free of all, I enslave myself to all, that I should be gaining the more." 20 And I became to the Jews as a Jew, that I should be gaining Jews; to those under (υπο) law (νομονas) under (υπο)law (νομονas) (not being myself under (υπο) law (νομονas) ), that I should be gaining those under (υπο) law (νομονas) ;

UNDER THE LAW!
The first time Paul mentions this in the Bible is in Romans 3:19. There he defines who it applies to.

(CLV) Ro 3:19
Now we are aware that, whatever the law is saying, it is speaking to those under the law, that every mouth may be barred, and the entire world may become subject to the just verdict of God,

Let's look at this very carefully. The law speaks to those under the law.

The law speaks so that every mouth in the entire world may become subject to YHWH's judgement.

The preceding verse serves to further define the behavior of those who are under the law:

(CLV) Ro 3:18
There is not fear of God in front of their eyes.

Why would we fear or loving Abba?

(CLV) Ex 20:20
Then Moses said to the people: Do not fear, for in order to probe you the One, Elohim has come, and in order that the fear of Him should come over your faces, that you may not sin.

What is sin?

(CLV) 1Jn 3:4
Everyone who is doing sin is doing lawlessness also, and sin is lawlessness.

The Judaeans we're well familiar with YHWH's Law (Torah), but they were also practicing Works of Law.

I don't see "Works of Law" mentioned in the Torah. I don't see any mention of it by Yahshua. Where is Paul getting this?

It is mentioned 1 time in Romans and 6 times in Galatians.

It is also mentioned in the Qumran Scrolls.

: the body of Jewish law supplementing the scriptural law and forming especially the legal part of the Talmud
Definition of HALACHA

Yahshua rebuked putting the traditions of men over the Torah.

21 to those without law as without law (not being without God's law, but legally (εννομος) Christ's), that I should be gaining those without law.

"Not being without," is a double negative. Paul is with YHWH's Law.

22 I became as weak to the weak, that I should be gaining the weak. To all have I become all, that I should undoubtedly be saving some.

Apart from the Judaeans the nations didn't even have the Torah
That said, just a few verses prior in this letter; Paul makes mention of the Torah:

Some misunderstand this passage.Paul was not a lawless crowd pleaser.

(CLV) Ga 1:10
For, at present, am I persuading men or God? Or am I seeking to please men? If I still pleased men, I were not a slave of Christ.

Acts 17:22-31 is an example of how Paul would put this behavior into practice.

(CLV) 1Co 11:1
Become imitators of me, according as I also am of Christ.

23 Now all am I doing because of the evangel, that I may be becoming a joint participant of it." 24 Are you not aware that those racing in a stadium are, indeed, all racing, yet one is obtaining the prize? Thus be racing that you may be grasping it." 25 Now every contender is controlling himself in all things; they, indeed, then, that they may be obtaining a corruptible wreath, yet we an incorruptible." 26 Now then, thus am I racing, not as dubious, thus am I boxing, not as punching the air, 27 but I am belaboring my body and leading it into slavery, lest somehow, when heralding to others, I myself may become disqualified."
